“Alright, enough. I already know my girl’s amazing. She’s not like anyone else, so don’t even think about keeping her here. Just give up on that idea.” Linnea brushed the director off and went to find Evelyn.
Evelyn was already awake. She never needed much sleep–maybe it was her constitution. A short rest was all it took, and her energy was stronger than most.
“Great work, Evie. I bought you food!” Linnea came in carrying bags, unpacking them onto the table.
“Velour?” Evelyn asked.
“The very one. I had their head chef cook for you personally. Am I good to you or what? Hehe.”
“You’re ridiculously generous.” Evelyn smiled at her.
Velour was one of the most exclusive restaurants in Crownpoint. Ordinary people couldn’t even get a table there, let alone have the chef prepare dishes personally.
“Honestly, do you think it’s worth it? Going through all this just to save a crippled man?” Linnea asked.
“It’s worth it. A life is still a life.” Besides, it was what her mentor had ordered her to do.
Just then, Evelyn’s phone buzzed. She picked it up and saw it was Lucian.
“Boss, I’m stuck outside Breeze Medical Center. Getting in here is impossible!”
Evelyn glanced at Linnea. “A friend of mine is here, but he got stopped.”
“No problem. I’ll have them let him through,” Linnea said, and left to arrange it.
Moments later, Lucian came upstairs and handed her a file. “Boss, these are the upcoming projects. Some of them are risky—I didn’t dare decide on my own.”
Evelyn flipped through the papers and handed them back. “Cancel the first one–it’ll lose money. The other two, go ahead.”
“Got it. With your direction, I’m not worried anymore. By the way, that Cirrus b*stard has been pestering me these past days. I’ve been dodging him. The old fool’s shameless. After everything you did for him back then, it was like feeding a dog.”
At the mention of the Cirruses, hatred stirred in Evelyn’s chest. The memory of her dismembered body would never fade.

“Boss, what are you even doing here at Breeze Medical Center? This isn’t a place normal people can enter. Are you treating someone? Who’s so important you’d operate yourself?”
Evelyn shot him a cool look. “Don’t ask about things you shouldn’t. Just go take care of your
work.”
Lucian curled his lip. “Fine.”
The moment Lucian left Breeze Medical Center, Marshall appeared outside.
“Mr. Zellner! Mr. Zellner! Finally, I’ve found you!” Marshall hurried over, all traces of pride gone. Lately, with Lucian avoiding him, he’d sensed things were going downhill.
“Mr. Cirrus, my people already explained everything. Why keep pestering me?”
“Mr. Zellner, this must be some misunderstanding. Cirrus Inc. and Titan Group have always been close partners. You can’t just pull out like this. What will become of us?”
Lucian let out a cold laugh. “What happens to Cirrus Inc. is your family’s problem, not mine. Marshall Cirrus, get this straight: Titan Group isn’t here to clean up your mess.

“Mr. Zellner…” Marshall wiped the sweat from his forehead.
Lucian really had turned heartless. He hadn’t treated Cirrus Inc. this way before.
Seeing Lucian about to leave, Henry quickly blocked his way. “Mr. Zellner, can’t we talk this out? You suddenly turned on us–at least give us a reason. Did we do something wrong?” he asked, fawning.
“Did something wrong? Partnering with a garbage company like yours was the mistake from the start. Don’t you know what you’re worth? Get lost. And don’t let me see you again, idiots!”
Lucian’s contempt and disdain made Henry seethe, unable to swallow the way Lucian humiliated them. He almost couldn’t stop himself from lashing out.
Marshall quickly grabbed his arm. If Henry threw a punch now, they would be finished for good.

“Dad, who does he think he is, acting so high and mighty?! Not long ago, he was groveling like a dog, and now he dares to treat us like this!” Henry fumed.
Marshall sighed. “Who knows? He changes his tune on a whim. That man is impossible to read.”
As the father and son spoke, they suddenly caught sight of Evelyn.
“Evelyn? What are you doing here? Were you following us?” Henry demanded harshly.
Evelyn hadn’t expected to bump into those two wretches the moment she stepped outside.
She stared at them in silence, and Henry’s confidence swelled under her gaze. “What, are your real parents too poor to support you? Can’t survive with them, so you came back crawling after us? You followed us here hoping we’d take you in?”
Evelyn bit back the anger boiling inside her, her expression calm. “That’s all just in your head,” she said and turned to leave, but Henry blocked her path.
She lifted her eyes to him. “Out of my way, mutt.”
“You… Evelyn Gulliver, who do you think you are? You ate our family’s food for years, and I haven’t even asked you to pay it back. I was your big brother, and this is how you talk to me?”
“Big brother? Do you even deserve the title?” Her gaze was cold as ice.

Before the quarrel could escalate, Marshall cut in. “Enough, Henry. Why argue with her? She’s not part of our family anymore.”
He turned to Evelyn. “Evelyn Gulliver, returning to us is out of the question. Alba is our real daughter. Don’t come looking for us again. Whether you live or die has nothing to do with us.”
Evelyn let out a mocking laugh. “I hope you’ll remember what you said today.” Because one day, he would come crawling on his knees.
Marshall watched her walk away, then turned his eyes toward Breeze Medical Center nearby.
“Why did she come out of Breeze Medical Center?”
“Dad, what are you talking about?” Henry asked.
“Just now, it looked like Evelyn walked out from there. But that hospital belongs to the Breeze family. Normal people can’t even step inside.”
“You must’ve seen wrong. No way. She grew up in the countryside. How could she possibly know people like that?” Henry scoffed.

Although Evelyn had once been raised under the Cirrus name, she had been dumped in the countryside as a child, left in a nanny’s care. The family never showed her any real concern.
Maybe it was because she wasn’t their biological daughter–Marshall and Avril always felt she was cold and distant, hard to like. They never took to her.
It wasn’t until a few years ago, when her engagement to the Sharpe family was arranged, that they finally brought her back to Crownpoint.
At the Cirrus Residence, Alba was in her room, fussing with her jewelry. Every night, she hugged those jewelry boxes to sleep, terrified that she’d wake up to find herself back in the Gulliver family’s shabby home.
Once everything was arranged to her liking, she picked up her phone and started taking selfies.
Her daily routine had become flaunting her wealth. She snapped several photos, filters cranked to the max, lips pouted in a practiced pose. Then she began editing the captions.
‘Cars are just for getting around–one would’ve been enough. But my parents insisted on giving me several luxury cars. So annoying!
