Chapter 48
Keeping the fact that they were currently waiting for the divorce procedures to be completed was what Megan was willing to do.
She didn’t plan on going further than that, nor was she capable of doing so.
She closed the messaging app.
Howard sat in the back of his Bentley, looking at the message he’d sent Megan.
Three minutes had passed, but Megan didn’t reply.
He scrolled upward and realized that the last time Megan had replied to him was before they went to the
courthouse.
Looking out at the rain, Howard considered when the last time he saw Megan was. If he wasn’t mistaken,
it had been in the hospital three days ago.
She had bandages wrapped around her head, and throughout the whole time Howard had been there, Megan had only said three things.
“What are all of you doing?”
“What happened?”
Before Howard left, Megan called for him, “Howie.”
The first two questions hadn’t even been directed specifically at him.
For some reason, Howard suddenly missed Megan. He had no idea how she fared after falling down the
stairs.
He frowned. He didn’t know what was going on with himself. He kept thinking of Megan throughout the
day.
Suddenly, the image of Elena flashed before his eyes. Perhaps it was because of her.
She made him think of Megan, who used to be a radiant woman who smiled and cried whenever she
wanted to.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the car window. Howard looked up to see Alyssa standing outside.
“Howard!”
Alyssa opened the door and got into the car. Instinctively, Howard pocketed his phone.
Apart from shooting him a brief glance, it seemed as though Alyssa saw nothing. However, her eyes glinted with hatred when she turned around to close the door.

When she turned back to him, she was smiling once again.
“Thank you for coming to get me, Howard. Did you wait long?” she asked concernedly.
“It was alright,” replied Howard.
Smiling, Alyssa answered, “Great.”
The driver started the car, and they set off through the rain.
Alyssa told Howard about the interesting things that had happened at the studio while Howard’s focus drifted in and out.
Elena’s questions echoed in his head. She had asked him to implore Alyssa about what she said to her.
“Howard? Howard!”
He only woke from his trance when Alyssa’s voice caught his attention.
He eyed her, questioning what she wanted.
“What are you thinking about, Howard? I noticed you’ve been lost in thought for a while,” mused Alyssa.
Howard studied her face. Her pale and weak appearance piqued his pity.
In the end, he asked, “What did you say to Elena today?”
