Chapter 9
Sometimes, I suspected that Samuel was trying to seduce me, but I had no evidence.
For instance, he was currently brewing coffee for me dressed in casual wear–soft cotton white T–shirt paired with grey
sweatpants.
He looked just like a college student, which wasn’t too far off since he had just graduated from college.
I lay on the couch, appreciating Samuel’s youthful physique. No wonder people were into sugar babies.
He came over with my coffee, and I started flipping through my magazine in all seriousness. I then took a sip from the coffee he
handed me.
As soon as Samuel sat down, Fluffy jumped onto his lap and settled down. My attention was drawn to Fluffy kneading on his grey
sweatpants.
My gaze couldn’t help but wander elsewhere. “So big-“I mumbled.
Samuel scooted closer and whispered in my ear, “Where are you looking at, Naomi?”
I felt a ticklish sensation in my ear. My gaze flickered around as I held my breath. “I–I mean the cat has grown so big now—‘

I rushed back into my room with reddening cheeks and sent a text to my best friend, Lara Knightley.
My text read, “I feel like Samuel has been seducing me ever since he started living here. Is it time for me to start dating again?”
Lara gave me a call excitedly. “Finally! I can’t believe you only realized this now when a handsome guy like him had liked you for
so many years!”
My heart pounded. “Does he like me? I’ve always thought he only sees me as his older sister-”
I placed a hand over my chest. I couldn’t tell where the sudden spark of joy was coming from.
“I’m not joking! Everyone could tell he likes you. You don’t know this, but he’s only meek when he’s with you–he wears this
dark and scary expression everywhere else!” Lara said.
“So, what do you think? Now that you’re divorced, you should consider Samuel. He’s so much better than that bastard!”
I replied, “My mind is all over the place right now. I’m already busy enough with work–I don’t want to think about anything else.”
I ended the call with Lara in a hurry, but my phone started ringing again immediately after. I accepted the call and found out it
was Yohan.
“Juli has a fever now and insisted on seeing you, Naomi. Can you come home to see him for a bit?” The voice from the other end of the line sounded like a plea.

I walked over to the balcony, enjoying the wind before softly replying, “I’ve called you like this several times before, Yohan.”
It was also my first time being a mother. I felt anxious and did not know what to do every time Julian got sick.
Even with the family doctor present, I still called Yohan with trembling hands. My voice broke whenever I begged for him to come
home.
However, I could still recall his icy reply back then.
I replied, “You told me, it’s one thing I couldn’t take care of myself, but how could I fail to take care of Juli as well?”
“Naomi, I-” Yohan’s voice was hoarse.
་
“What you said was right. That’s why I only wanted to take good care of myself now,” I said.
“Have your memories returned to you, Naomi?” Yohan’s tone was more careful than I’d heard before.
“I’ve never lost my memories from the start. We’ll meet in the courtroom in a month. Also, don’t bother thinking I’ll come back
begging for you after I recover my memories,” I gritted. “Things have ended between us for good.”
I could hear something glass–like breaking from the other end of the line. Without waiting for his reply, I ended the call and
blocked his number. I would only contact him a month later.
From then on, I started seeing Yohan frequently. Yet he only sat in his car, watching me quietly without interfering with my life.
Perhaps it was out of unwillingness to let go–or his ego was making him think that the grass was greener on the other side. In
any event, I only treat Yohan as a stranger now even if I saw him.
