Chapter 58
It wasn’t like Shaun could follow Megan into the toilet.
The single room was split into two. The first was where the bed was situated, while the other was a
balcony, protected by a sliding glass door. It secured their privacy while illuminating the room with natural
light.
There was a restroom that could be accessed from the balcony.
Megan walked into the restroom, and Shaun waited for her on the balcony.
Inside, Megan stared at her shirt. After a moment of thought, she ended up saying, “Shaun, I grew up with Selena. We’re best friends. You’re her brother, and I’ve treated you as though you were mine as well.”
She only dared to say all that through the door.
“Thus, please don’t take Selena’s jokes about offering you to me as compensation seriously.”
Shaun stood outside, the smile on his face disappearing.
Although the afternoon sunlight cast light onto the floor beside him, his eyes were dark.
Then, as though unbothered, he muttered, “Got it. Hasn’t Selena always been like that? She thinks one thing but does another.”
When Megan didn’t hear anything off in Shaun’s tone, she sighed in relief. She was terrified that he had taken the matter seriously.
She had always treated Shaun as a brother and nothing more.
Recently, Selena had been finding lots of opportunities to push them together. Even though Megan had mentioned it to her multiple times, she still did as she wanted.
It was better to talk things out today to prevent more awkwardness in the future.
At that thought, Megan changed into her clothes.
“Based on what you’re saying, did Lena scare you? Can you walk? Can you change alone? Do you need me to call someone for you?”
With the way Shaun joked with her, Megan began to relax. His annoying tone proved that nothing was wrong.
So, she huffed, “I’ll change. I don’t need your concern!”
She quickly changed and opened the door, dirty clothes in hand. She glared at Shaun, who was grinning outside as he stared down at her.
He was just as mischievous as he used to be. Reaching out, he said, “Hold on tight, queen.”

Megan held his arm, and they walked toward the sliding door. Through the shaded glass, she thought she could vaguely make out a figure standing by the door. However, she couldn’t tell who it was.
They opened the door and stepped in. When the wind blew, Megan trembled.
She noticed her room door was ajar. Perhaps the wind had pushed it slightly.
“Shaun, was the door open just now?”
“I don’t remember.”
Shaun hadn’t paid much attention to it, nor did he care. He just walked over and closed the door.
Megan nodded. She didn’t think too much about it. Perhaps she’d been mistaken, or someone had just passed by. After all, this was a hospital. It was normal for there to be many people milling around.
Outside the room, Howard walked to a corner of the corridor, his face grim. Leaning against the wall, he pursed his lips.
He could hear their giggles on the balcony door even now. Through the glass, he could see them leaning on each other.
Was this another one of Megan’s plans? Had she intentionally planned for him to see her with someone else to make him jealous?
When he was trying to find out which room Megan was in, he felt like something was off.
The nurses had told him that they needed some time to check where Megan was. Had they already gotten wind of his arrival?
They intentionally waited for him to go upstairs to put on their little show.
Howard shut his eyes and clenched his fists to the point where his knuckles turned white.
