Chapter 350
Ashton grabbed Briar’s struggling hands and gave her a mischievous smile. “Darling, how is my net worth not yours? Everything I have, including me, belongs to you. Right?
As he spoke, Ashton gave a suggestive thrust of his hips.
So early in the morning, with their bodies pressed together, a certain beast was waking up.
Briar was instantly too scared to move. ‘Damn it, that scoundrel! He always used this trick to intimidate her. Could he be any more shameless?‘
But she had to admit, it worked every single time.
Ashton ignored Briar’s resentful glare and kept “threatening her with a weapon.” He said, “Darling, I asked you a question.”
“Right, right, you’re the boss. Whatever you say is right.” Briar immediately surrendered. On the bed, she never fought with him. She was simply no match for him.
Briar couldn’t figure it out. People said that the man was always the one to tire out first. But Ashton always seemed tireless, like a perpetual motion machine with endless energy.
In the end, she was always the one who passed out from exhaustion. How pathetic. It would be completely humiliating if anyone found out.
Sometimes, Briar couldn’t make sense of it. Although Ashton did most of the work when they made love, she was always the one who ended up more exhausted.
The sheer frustration on Briar’s face amused Ashton. He chuckled before leaning down to capture her lips in a deep and passionate kiss.
Ashton didn’t let her go until they were both out of breath, though Briar was the only one who firmly insisted they both were.
“Don’t worry. Nothing you want to do will have to change because of my background. Trust me.” After a long moment, Ashton looked at Briar and earnestly made his promise to her, word by word.
“Alright, I understand.” Briar nodded.
In truth, it wasn’t that Briar didn’t believe Ashton. She was just worried about putting him in a difficult position.
After all, someone powerful enough to sit where that man sat could control anyone’s fate as easily as breathing.
Briar couldn’t bear the thought of Ashton fighting a losing battle for her. He was a proud, free man and shouldn’t have to sacrifice what was rightfully his for her sake.
Ashton gripped Briar’s chin, his fingers tightening slightly, forcing her to meet his gaze.

He said, “Stop overthinking. None of the things you’re imagining are going to happen.”

Briar was surprised, but she couldn’t speak clearly with Ashton holding her chin. Instead, she just raised an eyebrow at him, questioning him with her eyes.
Ashton was captivated by Briar’s intense gaze. He knew what she wanted to ask, but he deliberately dodged the question. “Darling, the way you’re looking at me… still not satisfied from last night?”
Briar couldn’t take it anymore. She rolled over and kicked Ashton off the bed with all her strength. “Ashton, go clean the junk out of your head.”
With a thump, Ashton landed on his butt. Fortunately, their bedroom was carpeted with a thick, plush rug, so no matter how loud the thud, he wasn’t hurt.
Ashton wasn’t angry about being kicked off the bed. He picked himself up from the floor and, completely unfazed, climbed back next to Briar to apologize. “Darling, I was wrong.”
Briar tried to ignore him, but Ashton held on to her like glue and wouldn’t let go. They finally stopped after wrestling until they were both out of breath.
“Okay, okay. I’ll stop teasing you. I have something I want to tell you.” Seeing that the moment was right, Ashton steered the conversation back to the main topic.
Briar gasped. “What?”
Ashton tightened his hold on Briar, leaving her no room to kick him off the bed again. “Mr. McInnes wants to
see us…”
Briar shot her head up and asked in disbelief, “He wants to see us?”
Hearing how Ashton referred to the man, it was clear he had no plans to acknowledge the McInnes family yet.
Ashton nodded. “To be precise, it’s Mr. McInnes who wants to see you.”
Briar was suspicious. “See me for what? I’m just a normal person with two eyes, a nose, and a mouth.”
Ashton chuckled softly. “Then I’ll just tell Mr. McInnes exactly that and turn him down…”
“No, no, no! I want to get my proper revenge. Don’t mess things up.” Briar panicked.
Briar was certain that if Ashton actually said that, Gideon would definitely summon her for a “chat” the next time she stirred up trouble in Shoneport.
Ashton said, “What are you afraid of? You have the ultimate trump card now. Who would dare mess with you!”
The trump card that Ashton mentioned was himself, the lost son.
Briar laughed sheepishly. “I’d better behave. Your schemes are already enough to keep me busy. Now add Mr. McInnes, who’s probably nothing but schemes? Forget it, I’d like to keep living a normal life.”

After all, the reclusive McInnes family was notorious. Every single member was frighteningly clever.
“So, Mr. McInnes wants to treat us to a simple meal tonight. Do you agree?” Ashton asked.
Briar thought for a moment. “If Mr. McInnes asks me to give up on my revenge and I refuse, will he force us apart and lock us up separately?”
Ashton couldn’t help laughing. “Honey, have you been watching too many soap operas?”
“He wouldn’t?” Briar retorted.
Of all times, Gideon had chosen to appear right after she had been secretly stirring up trouble several times in a row. And now he wanted to have dinner with them.
A man as busy as Gideon had his entire day scheduled down to the second. Supposedly, he wouldn’t have the time to invite her to dinner.
Hence, she didn’t believe for a second that this meal didn’t have an ulterior motive.
Seeing Briar’s reaction, Ashton knew exactly how many clichés and messy plots she had concocted in her head. He couldn’t help but feel exasperated.
He said, “Honey, you just think too much sometimes.”
“Are you sure there’s no ulterior motive?” Briar asked uncertainly.
“I haven’t. I promise.” Ashton lifted Briar from the bed and carried her to the bathroom, setting her down in front of the sink.
They had to meet sooner or later anyway. After a moment’s thought, Briar nodded. “Alright.”
She thought she might as well meet Gideon.
Ashton turned Briar around to face the mirror. “Okay, let’s get ready first. I’ll take you to meet someone in a bit.”
Briar asked casually while squeezing out some toothpaste, “Who are we meeting?”
“My mother.” Ashton’s voice was perfectly calm.
Startled, Briar felt a sudden sense of foreboding. She stopped squeezing the toothpaste and asked, “Where… where is she?”
Ashton took the toothpaste from Briar and squeezed it onto her toothbrush for her. “She’s in a private nursing home. She went mad many years ago.”
