Chapter 358
Chapter 358
Briar was silent.
As youchets
Briar turned to Ashton. “Honey, what outrageous thing have you done to make the DDC Vanguard Base list you as a dangerous person?”
Ashton kept his eyes on the road and said innocently, “I don’t know. I haven’t been out of the country recently.”
He implied that he hadn’t done anything and knew nothing about it.
Alright then! From the way Ashton said it, she could tell he must have done something earth–shattering behind her back.
Briar smiled and sat up straight. “Alright, I get it.”
A mysterious smile appeared on Kameron’s face. He said, “Briar, you have no idea what your man is truly capable of!”
Louie nodded in agreement. “It seems so. When it comes to important matters, she and Ashton each handle their own business without getting in each other’s way.
“It’s a good thing they rarely team up. With their combined destructive power, not only would the DDC Vanguard Base have a massive headache, but other organizations would tremble at the mere thought of them.”
Kameron rubbed his chin with a sly grin, saying, “When you two are together, Ashton has his hands full. When you’re apart, you each rule your own kingdom. Briar, why not leave this whole affair to Ashton? You could use the break.”
Briar immediately shook her head in refusal. “No. This is my problem. I can’t let him face those people alone…”
“Honey, you must have forgotten that they also made a move against Mrs. McInnes,” Ashton cut in, reminding her.
Kameron chimed in, “See? Ashton is perfectly willing. You just stay at home and wait for our good news.”
“No. You won’t fool me that easily.” Briar shook her head again. “I’m not as gullible as Ian. Were you conspiring behind my back, trying to trap me with my words to convince me not to participate?”
Louie and Kameron looked at Ashton and shrugged in unison. “Ashton, we did our best. But you know Briar isn’t easy to fool.”
Meeting Briar’s scrutinizing gaze, Ashton gave a wry smile. “You two just sold me out like that?”
Louie said, “Sorry, Ashton. We’re on Briar’s team, after all. We have to back our own.”
Briar pouted and turned her head away. “I knew it.”

Chapter 358
Ashton said guiltily, “Honey, I can explain…”
However, Briar did not give him a chance. “No, that’s unnecessary. I don’t want to hear it right now.
Then, two muffled chuckles came from the back seat.
Kameron and Louie chimed in with some unkind teasing, “We never expected that the famously formidable Ashton was afraid of his wife at home.”
“Yeah. If the international mercenaries who are always clamoring to cause him trouble found out, wouldn’t they laugh themselves to death?”
Ashton remained unfazed. “Only a man who’s afraid of his wife is good. You guys wouldn’t get it.”
Kameron and Louie scoffed disdainfully, “You say that as if you’re the only one with a wife. Don’t forget, we’re good family men, too.”
Ashton responded with a cold sneer.
Kameron and Louie were so angry that they almost ganged up on him.
Considering that, at best, they could only fight Ashton to a draw, they had no choice but to abandon the foolish idea.
“We’re here.” Ashton didn’t give Kameron and Kamerona a chance. As soon as the car arrived at the villa, he kicked them over to Briar’s villa next door. “You guys stay there for now. Don’t bother us. Good night.”
Then, he casually pulled Briar away before Kameron and Louie could react.
Kameron was speechless.
So was Louie.
“What? His dad spent 64 million dollars to hire us to protect them, and this is the attitude he gives us?” Kameron was cursing, pointing at the closed gate of the villa next door.
Louie calmly pushed the door open and went inside. “Otherwise? What kind of attitude did you expect him to have toward us? Groveling or bowing?”
Imagining it, Kameron shuddered. “Heh! I wouldn’t be able to take it if he treated me like that. I’d be afraid he’d assassinate me in my sleep.”
Louie said, “Then get in here already. It’s late. Those guys won’t be stupid enough to try anything tonight. Let’s get some proper sleep.”
“Fine!” Kameron stuck his hands in his pockets and slowly followed him inside.
Since it was Briar’s villa, and they knew her, they were sure she must have set up a lot of unexpected traps in
her house.
They each chose a room and stayed put.

They didn’t want to accidentally trigger any traps and waste energy so late at night.
Meanwhile, at Ashton’s neighboring villa.
“Honey, are you mad at me?” Ashton asked as he followed closely behind Briar.
Briar shook her head and said, “I’m not mad.”
“Then why are you ignoring me?” Ashton pressed against Briar’s back. If they weren’t walking, he would have pulled her straight into his arms.
Briar quickened her pace to get away from him. “I don’t feel like talking to you right now.”
Ashton sighed helplessly and pulled Briar back as she tried to move away. “Honey, I didn’t mean to hide it from you. It’s just that this isn’t only about your revenge anymore. It’s about mine, too…”
When he saw that Briar didn’t pull away, he continued, “You saw it yourself. It now involves my biological parents, so things aren’t as simple as we initially thought.”
Once political circles were involved, he no longer resolved matters with brute force.
Is there anyone in politics who isn’t corrupt?
To keep Briar from being drawn into deeper turmoil and to ensure her safety, Ashton suggested bringing Kameron and Louie from the DDC Vanguard Base when Gideon proposed hiring outside help.
With Kameron and Louie there, Ashton could at least ensure that no one could harm Briar in his absence.
As the situation reached its critical final stage, both Ashton and Gideon worried their enemies would resort to desperate measures.
In that case, the easiest target would be Briar.
Gideon was the current leader of Dasmieca. No matter how bold their enemies were, they wouldn’t dare challenge him directly.
Although Ashton was no longer part of the Wade family, the influence he had built in Shoneport over many years was not something those people could easily undermine.
Therefore, the best way to hurt both Gideon and Ashton was to go after the person they cared about most.
Gideon had placed Chauntae under strict protection. Besides, she was now effectively in a vegetative state and posed no threat, so there was nothing to fear from her.
However, Briar was different.
Briar was capable and resourceful. After relentlessly pursuing them for so many years, she had become a thorn in their side.

Chapter 358
There was no guarantee they wouldn’t resort to a devastating suicide assassination to eliminate Briar for good.
