Chapter 2
She should have known. This was Landon Crow, after all.
How could he possibly ever have a shortage of girls around him?
Back at the dorm, Elodie saw Melody’s devastated expression and figured out what had happened in a matter of seconds.
“Mel, are you okay?”
Melody forced a smile. “I’m fine.”
she’d seen the endless parade of people coming and going from his life, she should be used to it by now, shouldn’t she?
Besides, even if Leah wasn’t in the picture, would she really have had the guts to say anything?
Three days later, as Melody was walking back to her dorm from the library, she saw Landon again.
He was flirting with a girl.
This time, it wasn’t Leah.
Melody stopped at a corner not far from them, watching as a beautiful, unfamiliar girl initiated a hug with Landon, which he didn’t refuse.
Her gaze faltered. Hadn’t he just agreed to be with Leah?
n the moment she was distracted, the girl had already left, and somehow, Landon was now standing right in front of her.
When Melody snapped back to reality and saw him, her heart immediately started hammering against her ribs.
Landon was nearly six-foot-three, his tall frame giving him an intimidating presence, but he still had that smirk playing on his lips.
Enjoying the view?”
Melody clutched her books, opening her mouth to explain, but found that no words would come out.
Landon’s expression was that of a complete stranger, he clearly had no memory of this plain and ordinary high school classmate. But after a moment, he spoke
gain. “You’re Elodie’s best friend, right?”
t finally clicked. He’d seen her a few times when he was looking for Elodie-quiet and reserved, but not bad-looking.
Melody nodded, and Landon, saying nothing more, started to walk past her.
But for some reason, Melody couldn’t stop herself. “Since you already agreed to be with Leah, you should probably keep your distance from other girls.”
Landon stopped and looked back at her, his eyes filled with a casual indifference.
How do you know I’m with Leah? Are you stalking me?”
It was clearly just a casual joke, but Melody got so flustered she could barely speak. “I… I just heard it from Leah.”
It wasn’t a total lie. After all, when Leah came back that day, she’d bragged about it so much the entire women’s dorm knew.
Who could possibly date Landon Crow and resist shouting it from the rooftops?
‘If you’re Leah’s boyfriend, how can you just hug someone else.” She managed to force out.
Landon let out a soft laugh, and Melody thought she could hear a hint of disdain in it. Then, the boy who had been about to leave started walking toward her, one step at a time.
There were only a few inches between them, and Melody’s breathing grew heavy.
At that moment, Landon stared at her bright red earlobes and said flirtatiously, “Are you jealous I just hugged her? It’s fine. I can let you hug me, too.”
Melody looked up at him in disbelief, only to see Landon looking completely serious, even opening his arms for her.

Almost instinctively, Melody took two steps back, her face hot and flushed. Before Landon could say another flippant word, she scrambled away
Back in the dorm, Elodie noticed something was off and asked Melody what was wrong.
Melody’s heart was still racing. She bit her lip and said, “It’s nothing. I just ran into a really aggressive stray cat.”
“Oh, really?” Elodie said, munching on chips. Seeing no one else was in the room, she leaned in conspiratorially. “Mel, Leah and my cousin broke up.”
“What?!”
“You were at the library, so you didn’t hear. They broke up this morning. Leah was crying her eyes out, a whole crowd from her dorm was comforting her.”
Elodie sat on her chair, lost in thought. So, he had hugged someone else because he’d already broken up with Leah?
Suddenly, she felt even more embarrassed about what she’d just done.
Then, she found herself completely unable to stop thinking about his open arms, his flirtatious words and actions.
Even though she knew he was just a habitual flirt, knew that when he did those things, he probably didn’t even remember her face.
And yet, to her shame, Melody was still flustered by his proximity.
