Chapter 8
Three days later, the matter of Landon fighting and abandoning the exam concluded with a campus-wide public reprimand.
Melody had been on edge for days and only felt relieved when she saw there were no other punishments.
Elodie couldn’t help but scold her. “You’re still worried about him? Do you even know you lost points for skipping class?”
But Melody didn’t care. Perhaps every girl in love was just as reckless.
Before, her life consisted only of studying and that unattainable secret crush. Now, Melody had something else to hold on to.
She would always stay by Landon’s side, loving him, protecting him, and letting him know that he wasn’t alone in this world.
She brought him meals every day and would sit in on his classes with him when she had time. She was content with giving her all like this, feeling that she was slowly, bit by bit, making her way into Landon’s heart.
Days passed, and before they knew it, they had been together for a month, breaking the record for the longest of Landon’s girlfriends. Almost everyone was shocked, thinking the player was finally ready to settle down.
Around this time, Landon’s birthday was approaching, and Melody was preparing a special gift for him.
One afternoon, as she was walking on campus, a girl with a quiet and gentle demeanor stood in front of her.
The girl was wearing a white dress, with bright, pretty features. She gave a slight smile. “You must be Melody. Hi, my name is Skylar Ford.”
Skylar Ford? Skylar?
The girl Landon had mentioned at the karaoke bar.
Melody froze. “Hi, can I help you with something?”
Unlike her nervousness, Skylar was direct. “I know you’re with Landon, so there’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
“What is it?”
For some reason, she could see a hint of pity in Skylar’s eyes.
Her heart tightened. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Skylar say with a guilty expression, “Melody, you should break up with Landon, quickly. This whole thing, it’s actually my fault. I’m sorry. If it weren’t for me, Landon wouldn’t have dragged you into our drama…”
Melody was completely confused, but before Skylar could finish, a deep voice came from behind them.
Who told you to come here?”
Landon strode over, not even glancing at Melody, and spoke directly to Skylar. “I told you I don’t want to see you again.”
Skylar looked up at him, her voice choked with emotion. “Do you really hate me that much?”
She stared straight at him, but Landon suddenly averted his gaze. “That’s right. So get lost.”
Skylar trembled with anger at his attitude. Her health was already frail, and after turning and taking just two steps, she collapsed.
Melody was startled and immediately tried to help, but accidentally twisted her ankle. She instinctively looked up at Landon, only to see that his gaze had been Fixed on Skylar the entire time.
The fierceness and disgust from before were completely gone. His tightly clenched fists betrayed his concern.
But something seemed to be holding him back. Just as he couldn’t resist taking a step, Seth arrived. Seeing Skylar on the ground, he immediately scooped her up into his arms.
“Skylar!”
Seth picked her up and shot Landon a harsh glare.
Before leaving, he glanced at Melody again. For some reason, she felt there was a profound meaning behind that look.

Only then did Landon notice her injured foot. “How could you be so careless?” He said, a hint of blame in his voice.
Melody forced a smile, but her heart felt bitter. She had a strange feeling.
It seemed that although his attitude toward Skylar had been harsh, his eyes had never left her.
