Chapter 15

Landon’s father died on a rainy night three years ago, when he was just a freshman in high school. From then on, Landon despised the rain.

In high school, after experiencing such a major family tragedy, Landon developed a habit of watching the sky alone on the school rooftop.

That’s why, back then, when Melody was being bullied by her classmates, she ran to the rooftop to cry and ended up meeting Landon

Although Landon didn’t know exactly what had happened to her at the time, he could guess the general idea.

The group of rowdy boys in their class often teased Melody, making fun of her family’s financial situation, saying she couldn’t even afford tuition and that her school uniform was washed-out and yellowed.

Landon had always found this kind of malicious gossip despicable, so, for once, the guy who never meddled in other people’s business emerged from his corner of the rooftop and offered her a word of comfort.

He said. “Tears are useless. Only by making yourself exceptional can you fight for everything you want.”

This was his comfort to Melody, and also the standard he had held himself to for all these years.

Because only by being outstanding enough can you ignore all injustices.

What Landon didn’t know was just how much of an impact his simple words of comfort, a casual gesture for him at the time, had on Melody.

It was the beginning of Melody’s love at first sight, the start of their ill-fated romance, and the greatest motivation for her steady and tireless efforts all these

years.

At this moment, Landon finally realized that he had truly fallen for Melody.

But it was all too late. Melody was already on a flight abroad.

Today was Landon’s birthday. He was heading off campus at that moment to meet up with a few friends who had planned a birthday party for him.

But after belatedly realizing his own feelings, Landon clutched the gift box Melody had given him and ran as fast as he could toward the foreign languages

department building.

He knew both Elodie and Melody were angry with him, and he wouldn’t get the answers he wanted from them. But at this moment, he desperately needed to

now where Melody had gone and for how long.

He had gone with Elodie to find their academic advisor once before, and he still remembered where her office was. Right now, Landon was truly grateful for mis good memory.

He sprinted, clutching the gift box, a rare look of panic on his face.

As one of Northwood’s most well-known figures, Landon attracted plenty of stares along the way, but he couldn’t care less. All he wanted was to find out about

Melody as soon as possible.

He ran all the way to Melody and Elodie’s advisor’s office. Landon Crow, the always-polite law school prodigy, for the first time, barged into a professor’s office without even remembering to knock.

After he flung the door open, a room full of professors all looked toward the entrance. Seeing it was Landon, they were all a bit surprised.

The professors present had all more or less heard of Landon, not because of his playboy reputation, but because he was, in fact, an exceptionally outstanding tudent.

Candon’s presence was a guarantee at all major university-level events.

Even in Northwood’s recent admissions video, Landon was cast as the male lead due to his striking looks.

Although he was only about to start his junior year, Landon was like a golden business card for Northwood, everyone knew who he was.

No professor dislikes an excellent student, and they were no exception.

Melody’s advisor was a man in his thirties. The moment he saw Landon, he remembered that Landon was Elodie Cooper’s cousin.

Seeing Landon burst in so frantically, he instinctively thought something must have happened to Elodie.

So he asked with a worried expression, “Landon, what are you doing here? Did something happen to Elodie?!”

Landon walked to his desk, calming his ragged breath from the run. “No, Elodie’s fine.”

Professor Croft, I wanted to ask, which university did Melody go to as an exchange student, and for how long?”

Hearing that Elodie was okay, the advisor, Professor Croft, breathed a sigh of relief.

But when he heard Landon’s next question, he couldn’t help but frown. Still, he answered, “As one of our department’s top students, Melody has gone to Sorbonne University as an exchange student. The exchange period is two years.”

“Two years.” Hearing the answer, Landon’s figure swayed slightly.

That meant that before graduating, Melody wasn’t coming back.
