Chapter 31

A week later, at 8:30 AM sharp. Melody started her new job as a senior translator at a joint venture.

Over the past week, Melody had met up with 1lodie a few more Umes.

Elodie had been accepted into the graduate program at Northwood’s foreign languages department, but Melody had turned down the school’s offer of guaranteed admission, deciding to fully commit to her career as a translator.

Strangely enough, in this past week. Landon hadn’t appeared before Melody even once, as if he had vanished.

However, Melody was busy preparing documents for her new job and didn’t have time to dwell on it.

On her first day, her supervisor gave her an assignment.

The Nexus Group, where Melody worked, was recently involved in a legal dispute. As the plaintiff, their company needed to provide a translator to their contracted law firm to assist with translation.

Many of the documents provided to the law firm were highly technical and entirely in French, with a few in Spanish.

Melody was one of the few translators in the company fluent in both French and Spanish. The other one was on maternity leave, so the assignment fell to her.

fter listening to her supervisor’s instructions, Melody nodded to show she understood.

For the next few days before the trial, just stay at their law firm and help out. You don’t need to clock in here. Contact me anytime if you have questions.”

Melody nodded, took the address of the law firm from her boss, and hailed a cab.

On her very first day, before she even had a chance to organize her desk, she was thrown into work. She didn’t know if she should be happy about being valued

y the company or sad that she didn’t get to meet her new colleagues.

fter entering the law firm and explaining her purpose to the receptionist, the young woman at the front desk led Melody to the office of the lawyer in charge

f the case.

fter thanking the receptionist, Melody gave a polite knock on the closed office door.

pleasant male voice quickly came from inside, “Come in.”

erhaps it was first-day jitters, so Melody overlooked how familiar that voice sounded, as if she had heard it somewhere before.

I wasn’t until she pushed the door open and walked in that Melody suddenly realized that the person sitting at the desk, looking at her expectantly, was none

ther than Landon Crow.

eeing the smiling expression on Landon’s face, Melody was shocked at his presence, and her steps into the room faltered.

ut on second thought, Landon had always been a top law student. The case a year ago where he cleared his father’s name had caused a huge stir in the legal world. Even Melody, far away in France and deliberately avoiding him, had seen the news on her phone.

andon was just that kind of person. No matter where he went, he had an enviably brilliant magic about him.

o, it wasn’t surprising that Landon, having just graduated, was already a lawyer in a firm, handling cases on his own.

With this thought, Melody composed herself, extended her hand, and said in a professional tone, “Hello, I’m Melody Wolfe, the translator sent from Nexus Group to assist you.”

Landon raised an eyebrow, took her hand in his, and smiled faintly. “Hello, Ms. Wolfe. I’m Landon Crow, the lawyer in charge of the Nexus Group case.”

Melody had never imagined that after two years, she and Landon would reunite in this way, in a professional setting.

What she hadn’t expected even more was, how could Landon have changed so much in just two years?

Could someone please tell her how the campus heartthrob, once dubbed the “unattainable prize”, could have become such a rogue today!
