Chapter 32

After an awkward yet polite exchange, Melody sat down in the seat opposite Landon.

She had originally thought that, given their awkward history, Landon might say something shocking.

But instead. Landon just handed her a few documents. “These are the case files. You can familiarize yourself with them first, it’ll help with the translation work

later.”

Melody paused before taking them, surprised that he would so professionally jump straight into work.

Seeing her expression, Landon smiled, quickly understanding what was going through her mind.

“What? What did you think I was going to say? Do I look like the type to mix business with pleasure?”

Caught off guard, Melody felt her face flush. She pretended not to hear him and focused on seriously reading the documents in her hand.

However, her major wasn’t law, and there were many technical terms she didn’t quite understand.

Melody stole a glance at Landon and saw him looking down, seriously making notes on a document. She pressed her lips together and decided not to disturb

him.

But it was as if Landon had eyes in the side of his head. Before Melody could look away, he spoke up, “What’s wrong? Is there something you don’t understand?”

By now, Melody had calmed her uneasy feelings. Hearing him initiate, she took the opportunity to nod, push the document towards him, and point to a section. Here, I don’t quite get this part.”

Candon truly lived up to his reputation as one of Northwood’s rare law talents. After seeing the passage she pointed out, he immediately explained its meaning n simple, easy-to-understand terms.

They were both intelligent, and with a bit of back and forth, Melody had already grasped the general outline of the case.

So she said confidently, “I’ve got the general idea now. You can give me what needs to be translated. I can start now.”

Landon gave her a deep look, as if he wanted to say something but was holding back.

But in the end, he didn’t say anything and handed the prepared documents to her.

But as Melody reached for the files, he held on, not letting go.

Melody couldn’t help but look at him with confusion.

Only then did Landon say, “Ms. Wolfe, since I just helped clear up your doubts, if I run into something I don’t understand later, could I ask for your help as

vell?”

Melody glanced at the document Landon had just been reading. It was entirely in French, with some Spanish annotations on the side. It seemed he was having a

it of trouble with it.

Assisting the lawyer with translation was part of her job anyway, so Melody nodded.

eeing her agree, Landon finally smiled and loosened his grip on the folder.

But when Landon asked her about a French word for the tenth time in just half an hour, even someone as good-natured as Melody could tell he was deliberately trying to talk to her.

Melody glanced at the word he was pointing to, tried to hold it in, but couldn’t. She retorted, “Landon, if I remember correctly, this is a simple word. I also remember you passed the advanced French proficiency exam a long time ago.”

Seeing that Melody was finally no longer pretending they were strangers, Landon broke into a triumphant grin.

He had always felt she was too reserved, always used to bottling up all her grievances. In reality, she didn’t need to be like that at all.

Now, seeing her finally show a bit of normal human emotion under his “harassment”, Landon’s goal had been achieved.

Landon glanced at the word he had just asked about, smiled, and replied, “Yeah, I know it. I was just using it as an excuse to talk to you.”
