That can’t be right. Are you sure you didn’t mix up the results? I’m practically menopausal.”

The doctor stared at the printout, reading it again and again

Maybe you should get your blood tested one more time, just to be safe. The lab techs might’ve made a mistake.”

Kelly didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the slip and hurried downstairs

By the time she got back, the results were already up on the doctor’s computer screen

The doctor looked at the monitor, then back at Kelly, shock written all over her face

There’s no mistake. I checked.”

You’re definitely pregnant.”

Kelly felt like the air had been sucked out of the room. Her knees buckled and she practically fell into

the chair

Pregnant

At this point in her life

Waitcould it be Greg

Her face went white as a sheet

How

How could this even happen

Ma’am, are you alright? The nurse nearby came over, worry all over her face

It took Kelly a few seconds to snap out of it. She waved her hand, forcing a small smile. I’m fine. Thank you.”

She left the office as fast as she could

The second she was gone, the nurse whispered, She looked absolutely terrified.”

The doctor just kept flipping through charts, looking unfazed. Most women her age are busy with grandkids, not morning sickness. Wouldn’t you freak out?”

Everyone’s got their own struggles

Back in her car, Kelly collapsed against the seat, exhausted. Sweat soaked through her clothes, and she was breathing so hard it sounded like she might pass out

A little ways off, in a black Bentley, Patricia was fiddling with a pen, tapping it against her planner

Sara sat beside her, watching the Porsche across the lot, clicking her tongue. She looks like she’s about to have a panic attack.”

I mean, wouldn’t you? Getting pregnant at her ageanyone would be freaking out.”

Chapter 260

So your ex’s about to have a baby brother?”

Patricia just shot Sara a look, not really bothered by all the jokes about her ex. But if Oliver ever heard this stuff, Sara would be in real trouble

Karma’s a funny thing. When it comes around, nobody gets to play innocent.”

The Porsche roared to life and sped out of the lot

Sara watched it go, then raked her fingers through her hair and grinned at Patricia. Want to go pick Uncle Oliver up from work?”

Let’s go.”

They headed for Pacific Capital

As soon as they parked in the basement garage, Sara reached for the dooronly for Jackson to lock the doors with a quick click

Sara blinked, confused. What’s going on?”

Wait a sec,Jackson said, glancing at Patricia in the rearview mirror. Miss, look over there.”

Patricia followed his gaze and spotted Howard getting out of his car, walking straight to the elevators

Her brows knit together. What’s he doing here?”

Let’s just ask Uncle Oliver,” Sara said, already pulling out her phone to call him

The call rang twice and then went straight to voicemail

Sara muttered, annoyed. Aunt Patricia, your turn.”

He’s probably busy.”

I don’t believe it,Sara insisted, shoving the phone at her

Patricia sighed and dialed

This time, Oliver picked up right away

Patricia just stared. Way to ignore Sara

Oliver’s voice was warm and gentle, like he was right there beside her. Pattie?”

Patricia glanced at Sara, nervous. Are you busy?”

She silently begged him to say yes, just so Sara wouldn’t start in on her

I’m not busy.”

Patricia closed her eyes, resigned

Sara snatched the phone, shouting, Uncle Oliver, I’m with Aunt Patricia! You’re totally playing favorites!”
