Chapter 18: Confrontation and Conspiracy
(Elena’s POV)
In the Master Suite at Moonhaven Estate, Marcus pressed me onto the bed. Our bodies were intimately close, and I could feel his physical arousal against me.
My body stiffened like a corpse that had been dead for thousands of years. The contact that I once craved now felt repulsive
“Marcus, is it because Sophia didn’t satisfy you?” I asked bitterly.
I knew he had always disdained forcing women in such matters. But now I wasn’t sure about anything
anymore.
The thought that he could come to me so casually after being with Sophia made me feel disgusted. The intimate contact I once yearned for had become something I wanted to escape.
(Marcus’s POV)
I could sense her resistance through our mate bond. My gaze deepened as I stared at her face.
I had long noticed that her face was strikingly beautiful. The deep brown teardrop mole at the corner of her
eye made her beauty alluring yet refined
But this mole always gave me an inexplicable sense of familiarity. As if I had seen it somewhere long ago.
Perhaps because of this, I felt inexplicably irritated whenever I saw Elena.
(Elena’s POV)
Marcus loosened his tie and declared coldly. “We are mates. Whatever I do to you is within my rights.”
I tried to push him away, but he pinned my wrists above my head. He buried his face in my neck, his wild breath overwhelming me
I could barely breathe. Feeling wronged, tears blurred my vision and I turned my face away.
Suddenly, Marcus stopped. His gaze fixed on my bare ring finger.
The mating ring I had worn for six years was gone. Only a faint mark remained where it used to be.
“When did you take it off?” he asked in a low, hoarse voice.
His burning fingertips brushed over my ring finger as if asking casually.
I remained silent. I had stopped wearing the ring since the night I mentioned severing our mate bond.
At that moment, Marcus’s phone rang. He straightened his shirt and left the room to take the call.
After Marcus left, I lay expressionless on the bed. My body still retained the warmth from his touch.
I wondered if he was the same way with Sophia in bed. The thought disgusted me completely.
Inside the bathroom, I submerged myself completely in the bathtub. The water covered my e body.
I hoped soaking in water could wash away his lingering warmth.
Chapter 18 Confrontation
(Marcus’s POV)
When I returned after hanging up, Elena was no longer on the bed. The sound of running water came from the
bathroom.
I approached the bathroom door, about to knock. But my hand paused in mid–air before I withdrew it.
I then took my coat and left the room.
(Elena’s POV)
The next day, I arrived at the Northern Territory Central Healing Institute early. I needed to prepare for a healing session scheduled at noon.
However, around eleven o’clock, I received notice that the lead healer had been changed. Very suddenly
Standing at the nurse station reviewing the shift report, I remained silent for a moment. Then I asked Pack
Nurse Rachel, “Was this requested by the patient’s family?”
Rachel hesitated before replying, “Actually, it was Senior Healer Wiliam Cross’s request. He said that with the trouble between you and Healer Sophia, he questioned your healing ethics.”
Senior Healer Wiliam Cross was a veteran at the Central Healing Institute. He had been serving for sixteen
years and was considered a respected elder.
Unexpectedly, because of Sophia’s situation, he had also chosen to take sides. The Blackwood family’s
influence was indeed formidable
(Rachel’s POV)
I whispered to Elena that I believed in her. Even without backing. Elena’s abilities would ensure success
anywhere.
Elena smiled genuinely, thanking me and expressing belief in my potential as well, I sighed with regret as
watched her leave.
Who could say such bad things about such a gentle healer?
(Sophia’s POV)
William Cross visited my Recovery Ward with generous gifts. He mentioned his private transfer of Elena’s
position with obvious pride.
I smiled coldly, satisfied, but not showing it too obviously. “I don’t know how to repay your care, Senior Cross.”
Cross rubbed his hands and smiled, hinting that I could say a few good words about him to Alpha Marcus.
I had already guessed it. I smiled and said that I would have Marcus promote him later.
Cross left the ward happily after receiving the promise. The moment the door closed, my smile faded.
How could such a fool be so eager to be used by me? This was the taste of power.
“Elena, your good days are over!”
(Elena’s POV)
Over the next two days, my healing sessions were mysteriously replaced, and even my pon was transferred to the Emergency Healing Bay.

I took the post change report straight to Cross’s office and knocked on the door. After receiving a response, I pushed the door open.
“Senior Cross, what do you mean by changing my position without my consent? I don’t seem to be under your direct jurisdiction
Cross stopped his work, glanced at me, and snorted contemptuously. “The Emergency Healing Bay is short of staff, and you’ve been relatively free lately. Do you have any objections to being transferred there to help?”
I laughed bitterly. Tm free? In the past three days, six of my scheduled healing sessions have been replaced
for no reason,”
“We don’t have many healers to begin with. Can other healers have normal rest time with your scheduling arrangements?”
“That’s not something you need to worry about.” Cross tapped the table dismissively. “The director has already agreed. If you have any objections, go talk to the director. Don’t bother me here.”
As I was about to retort, Pack Nurse Rachel pushed the door open urgently. “It’s not good, Senior Cross! Healer Mitchell fainted during a healing session! The patient’s condition is very dangerous!”
Cross stood up suddenly almost not expecting such a sudden event.
He reacted quickly. “What about the other healers?”
Rachel replied that there were not many healing specialists to begin with. The other healers already had
appointments and could not be spared
I glanced at Cross and sneered “Senior Cross, this is your arrangement. Figure out how to explain it to the director yourself”
I turned and left the room
After putting on my healing robes, I went straight to the Surgical Chamber Fortunately, the patient’s condition was only mild.
I
After a small healing session of one and a half hours, I went to the Healers Rest Chamber to see Healer
Mitchell
Dr. Harrison Mitchell, who had fainted due to overwork, was now in the rest chamber. Several nurses and his
Medical Apprentice were giving him moonlight herb infusions to replenish his strength.
Seeing me the Medical Apprentice came over and questioned angrily. “Healer Elena, today was clearly your healing session, but why did you let my teacher do it??
“The teacher has been working for more than forty–eight consecutive hours. Do you want him to die!”
I was stunned for a moment and lowered my eyes. This is not my arrangement.”
in healing sessions, who else can arrange your position!” He was full of righteous anger.
Everyone knew that I was the strongest attending healer in the institute. There was no healing I could not do
Director Henry Baker valued me so the scheduling of healing sessions was determined by myself. He didn’t
believe that others could arrange my schedule.
Seeing him full of doubts, I sighed. “You can ask Senior Cross, after all, this is his arrangement.”
Chapter 18 Confrontation
As soon as the voice fell, Sophia and Cross entered the rest chamber unhurriedly.
Cross immediately denied my words. “Healer Elena, I didn’t expect you to be such a person. Even if I arranged your position, the healing session was decided by you. How can you blame me?”
A trace of surprise flashed across my face. This was something I had not expected at all.
In an instant, my face turned gloomy. Now it’s not even scheming behind my back, but scheming openly!
Sophia covered her lips, pretending to be surprised. “Healer Elena, the healing chamber is your position. How can you blame Senior Cross for leaving without permission?”
Seeing my whole face turn white, she felt indescribably happy.
Cross had reported my position change to the director, but he had not told the director that I had scheduled healing sessions. As long as I didn’t do these sessions, when the position report was uploaded, it would only
find the reason from me.
Even if I said it was Cross’s arrangement, Cross had already prepared countermeasures.
Moreover, other healers would naturally have complaints because I was temporarily absent from healing sessions and caused other healers to work overtime.
If the workplace relationship became tense, how could I continue to gain a foothold in the institute?
