Chapter 6 Just a Totally Normal Woman
Becky changed into a fresh set of clothes.
While digging through the drawer, she accidentally found a thick stack of cash-looked like about ten grand.
Her eyes lit up. She stuffed the money into her suitcase and pulled out two bills for cab fare.
When Sharon saw her, she greeted her with a huge bear hug.
Becky was so moved she almost cried.
Sharon pulled back in alarm. “What’s wrong, babe?”
Becky wiped her face and gave a silly smile. “I missed you.”
“Ugh, you scared me. Come here, another hug. I missed you too.”
In her past life, Becky hadn’t had a single friend. Everyone said she had a weird personality.
But what was weird about her?
She was just a totally normal woman.
People had no taste.
“You what? You want to divorce Xavier?” Sharon’s voice shot up.
Becky was lounging sideways on the couch with her feet propped up on Sharon’s lap.
Sharon, flustered, smacked her foot hard. Becky yelped.
“Be gentle!”
Sharon took a breath, then snatched the snacks from Becky’s hands and stuffed them in her own mouth.
“Spill it. What’s going on? Did you get diagnosed with something? Terminal illness?”
Becky smacked her lips, savoring the snack flavor.
“Don’t be dramatic. I’m healthy. All four limbs intact. Even the car crash I was in yesterday only gave me a few scrapes.”
“Car crash? What crash? Where? Why didn’t you call me? Let me see.”
Sharon grabbed her and started flipping her around for inspection.
Becky pointed at her forehead.
There was a small, barely visible scrape.
Sharon finally believed she was fine. No terminal illness here.
“So Xavier did something to you, right? Wait… did you catch him and Yulia in bed?”
Becky said, “Not in bed, no. But it’s true he likes Yulia. I’ve just had enough. I don’t want to cling to a man who doesn’t love me.”
Sharon still looked suspicious, rubbing her chin as she studied her.
Becky got so annoyed she started to jump up.
“Keep staring and I’m leaving.”
She didn’t want to tell Sharon about the pregnancy yet. Sharon’s mouth was way too big-she’d spill the secret in seconds.
Sharon handed her a fresh handful of snacks, successfully pacifying her.
Becky munched while watching TV, toes wiggling contentedly in Sharon’s lap.
“Sharon, where’d your parents go?”
“Where else? Out dancing in the square.”
“I’m so jealous! Loving couple, adorable daughter, and after dinner they go hold hands and dance. That’s the life.”
Adorable daughter Sharon replied, “Dump Xavier and find someone decent. You can have that too. I’ll set you up.”
Becky grinned and bit into a snack. “Okay, but he better be hot.”
“Obviously.”
“Hotter than Xavier.”
“That might be… tough. But I’ll do my best.”
“Sharon, can I stay the night at your place?”
“Do you even need to ask? I’m hugging you to sleep tonight whether you like it or not.”
Becky hugged her back and planted a kiss on her cheek.
“This is the best!”
She had a real friend now.
Back at Westview Pavilion, Xavier-who almost never came home for dinner-showed up, only to find Becky gone.
Too proud to call her, he sat at the dining table stewing in silence.
One of the maids saw his dark face and got nervous. “Sir, if the food isn’t to your liking, we can prepare something else.”
“No need.”
Xavier stood and headed upstairs.
Becky woke up in Sharon’s house.
Her mouth felt wet.
She’d drooled in her sleep.
She wiped it off and opened the bedroom door.
Barry and Mary were in the kitchen making breakfast.
So that’s what had her drooling.
“Sir, ma’am, what are you cooking? It smells amazing!”
Mary turned with a smile. “Dumplings. We made them ourselves.”
Barry added, “And soup.”
Becky licked her lips. “I want some!”
The two of them burst out laughing. Mary said, “Go wash your face. It’s almost ready. And wake Sharon up too. She’s always sleeping in.”
“On it!”
Becky skipped back to the bedroom and cupped Sharon’s face.
“You little pig. Wake up! The sun’s already up!”
Sharon groaned and rolled over.
“If you don’t get up, I’m eating all the breakfast your parents made.”
Still no response.
Becky gave up and went to wash up.
By the time Sharon came out of the room, Becky was already holding dumplings in one hand and a bowl in the other, happily stuffing her face.
Neither the original Becky nor the Becky from her past life had ever experienced the warmth of family.

In her previous life, Becky had been an orphan, raised in an orphanage.
She’d been small and weak, always picked on. But she had a short temper and a mean streak. Anyone who bullied her got beat to the ground. When she couldn’t win with fists, she used her teeth. Hard.
There was once a little boy who lost a chunk of flesh from his arm because of her. After that, no one dared touch her. Everyone called her crazy.
She really admired Sharon’s warm and healthy family.
Becky looked up, still chewing. “Sharon, come eat.”
Sharon shook her head with a helpless smile.
Such a foodie.
Whether it was Becky now or the original, both of them turned into ravenous beasts the moment they stepped foot into the Yale household.
After a massive breakfast at the Yale home, Becky returned to Westview Pavilion.
She spotted Xavier.
For a second, she looked surprised. “Aren’t you working today?”
Xavier’s dark eyes were unreadable. “It’s the weekend.”
“Oh.” Becky turned to go upstairs.
“Where were you last night?”
“Not your business.”
“Stop right there.”
“Ugh. Leave me alone.”
She was still mad about the failed divorce. No way she was going to be nice to him.
Good looks didn’t fix anything.
Watching her disappear around the corner of the stairs, Xavier stood up and took a deep breath.
He felt like he was going to explode.
He called a maid over.
“What’s Becky been doing the past couple of days?”
Something felt off. Her attitude toward him had completely changed.
This was the woman who used to cling to him constantly. Who drugged him just to marry him. Why was she suddenly hell-bent on getting divorced?
AIR
He’d noticed it already.
Becky really wanted to leave him.
The maid answered, “Ms. Becky got into a car accident two days ago. She had a scrape on her forehead when she came back. Luckily, it wasn’t serious. Later, the news showed footage of the accident. It was awful. Dozens of cars crashed. Six people died. Over twenty were badly injured. Ms. Becky was pointing at the TV saying her car was in there too. And we actually saw it – it was totally wrecked.”
Xavier’s brows furrowed tightly.
So the car crash had really happened. He’d thought…
He waved the maid away.
Then he went outside to check the cars.
The red Maserati Becky usually drove was missing.
He called Kevin. “Track that car.”
A while later, Kevin called back.
The car had been at the crash site – and had already been towed to a repair shop.
