Chapter 9 That Idiot Husband Is Good for Shielding Knives
Becky paused for just a second before continuing down the stairs as if nothing had happened.
She kept a calm smile on her face and sat down on the single-seater beside Lilian.
“Mom, how long have you been here? Why didn’t you call me?”
Becky figured she could probably win an award for her acting. She was adapting quickly to the role of the original Becky, handling all her relationships with ease.
Lilian didn’t look pleased, but she still maintained the poise of a wealthy matriarch.
“I’ve been here for an hour. It’s already nine o’clock. Young people shouldn’t live so carelessly. You need to develop a habit of sleeping and waking early.”
Her voice was gentle and steady, with a hint of frailty.
Becky didn’t respond.
What could she even say?
She was afraid she’d say something that would make Lilian pass out from anger.
After all, this woman had only survived thanks to her grandmother.
Lilian noticed the girl sitting there with her head down, picking at her fingernails.
Clearly, she hadn’t taken a single word in.
Lilian’s anger deepened.
“Why did you hit Yvonne?”
“She called me a parasite who grew up sucking the Bolton family dry.”
“That’s what made you hit her like that? Her face was terrifying when I saw it. I always thought you were a well-behaved and kind child, but I didn’t expect your heart to be so cruel.”
Becky dropped her hands and looked up at her.
Lilian’s expression was full of disapproval.
Over the years, she hadn’t exactly treated Becky well-but not terribly, either. Still, she was clearly biased toward her own daughter.
It was human nature. Becky couldn’t blame her for that.
But now, this body belonged to her. And she wasn’t the type to sit back and get bullied. If someone messed with her, she’d strike back.
“Mom, just tell Yvonne to leave me alone and she won’t get hit.”

You-
Lilian’s face went pale with rage.
She regretted her decision back then. She never should’ve brought Becky home. Now she was tangled up
with her son.
After a moment, she said, “I heard from Yvonne that you went on a shopping spree. Is that true?”
“It is. Xavier told me to.”
That idiot husband-great for taking the heat when needed.
Lilian said, “Just because he told you to doesn’t mean you should go spending recklessly.”
“I wasn’t reckless. I only bought things I needed.”
“Even if you needed them, there should be limits. Do you know how the Bolton family has stayed wealthy for three generations?”
“Being stingy.”
She gave Becky a glare.
“That’s not stingy. That’s called being frugal. In a wealthy family, if you want to keep your fortune, you can’t just know how to make money-you have to know how to save it. Spend where it matters, not a cent where it doesn’t.”
“As Xavier’s wife, you need to manage the household properly, be a thrifty wife, and let him focus on work.”
Becky had to admit, there was truth to that. They said the richer someone was, the tighter they held their wallet. Otherwise, how would they stay rich?
Unlike her, who spent money as fast as she made it.
“Did you hear what I said?” Lilian asked.
“Yes. Thanks, Mom. That was enlightening.”
Lilian’s expression finally softened.
After a moment, she changed the subject. “From now on, don’t lay a hand on Yvonne again. She’s your younger sister. You should let her have her way.”
“She’s older than me.”
“But you’re her sister-in-law.”
Becky thought to herself, not for long.
Lilian declined to stay for breakfast and left with her purse.

Becky only made a polite offer. She was thrilled to see her go so she could enjoy her breakfast in peace.
Back at home, Yvonne ran up to her.
“Mom, how did it go? Did you get revenge for me?”
Lilian gave her a look. “You’re not a kid anymore. Grow up a little. The most I can do is scold her-what do you want, for me to hit her back?”
Yvonne whined. “So I got slapped for nothing?”
“You were the one who provoked her. You asked for it.”
“Mom! Whose side are you on?”
“I’m warning you-stop messing with her. Ever since you two were kids, have you ever gotten the upper hand?”
Yvonne pouted, clearly not convinced.
“That’s just because my brother always protected her. If it weren’t for him, I would’ve taken her out ages ago.”
“She’s your brother’s wife now. Don’t go too far, or if Xavier finds out, it won’t end well.”
“What’s there to be scared of? He probably hates her guts by now. He’s dying to get rid of her.”
Lilian’s eyes flickered. “Don’t say things like that.”
Yvonne huffed, still pouting.
She wasn’t wrong, though. Becky had drugged her brother and forced him to marry her.
A woman that shameless was bound to get kicked to the curb eventually.
Becky arrived at a real estate agency.
“I want to rent an apartment.”
An agent quickly came over to help.
After sitting down, Becky asked, “Can I pay rent with a credit card?”
“I’m sorry, that’s not allowed.”
She refused to give up. “What about buying a place?”
The agent looked apologetic and shook his head again.

From the questions she asked, it was obvious she didn’t have money to buy anything.
And without money, no one had time for her.
He excused himself for a drink of water and disappeared, leaving her hanging.
Becky walked out of the agency, stone-faced.
She was fuming.
She kicked a rock on the sidewalk.
Honk honk!
A car stopped in front of her, honking twice.
Becky opened her mouth to curse.
She hated people who honked for no reason.
Then a handsome guy stepped out.
Long legs, strong brows, sharp eyes, and a pointy chin. He had that mischievous heartthrob vibe.
He even had a diamond stud in one ear, full of that bad-boy charm.
And somehow… he looked familiar.
“Why are you here?” the guy asked.
Becky looked down at the hand that had grabbed her wrist.
“Who are you?”
He opened his mouth, but Becky cut in. “I don’t care how good-looking you are. You can’t go grabbing girls on the street. I’ll call the cops.”
The
frowned. “Becky, don’t be like that. Just because you’re married now, you’re pretending not to
guy know me?”
She blinked.
He knew her name-so, someone she knew?
She looked closer.
Then it hit her.
He really was someone familiar.
The original Becky’s admirer. “J… Jose?”
Jose Luke smiled, shy and sweet. “Yeah.”

In the original CEO romance script, Becky fawned over Xavier, while Jose fawned over Becky. Everyone was hopelessly in love with someone.
Becky liked good-looking guys, but clingy types like this made her nervous.
She pulled her hand back.
Jose’s eyes dimmed. He looked heartbroken.
Becky looked away. “Look, I’m a married woman now. I shouldn’t be getting handsy with another guy in public.”
“I know. I’ll be more careful,” he said.
“Good.”
She glanced at the yellow Lamborghini by the curb.
“Is that your car?”
Jose nodded.
“Give me a ride.”
Jose froze for a second, then quickly opened the door for her, his face lighting up.
And just like that, the same woman who’d just declared she was married got into Jose’s sports car.
From a distance, Yvonne held up her phone, snapping photo after photo.
“Becky! You’re done for!”
