(Sophia’s POV)
My hands trembled as I stared at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. The fear gnawed at me like a hungry
wolf.
What if Marcus truly abandoned me? What if I lost his protection forever?
The thought of returning to my old life made my stomach churn. I couldn’t go back to being nobody, to scraping by on others‘ charity.
Elena’s growing influence terrified me more each day. Her confident dismissal of my schemes, her calm defiance – it all pointed to someone who felt secure in her position.
I splashed cold water on my face, trying to steady my nerves. I needed answers about Elena’s true
relationship with Marcus.
(Elena’s POV)
I knocked on Director Henry Baker’s office door and waited for permission to enter.
“Come in, Elena,” Director Baker called out. He looked up from his paperwork with knowing eyes.
“You’re here about the William Cross situation, aren’t you?”
I nodded. “I wanted to confirm that I was the one who reported his corrupt activities.”
Director Baker leaned back in his chair, his expression grave. “I appreciate your honesty, but I’m concerned
about potential retaliation.”
His weathered face showed genuine worry. “Cross has connections within the pack hierarchy. Corrupt
officials can be vindictive toward those who expose them.”
“I understand the risks,” I replied calmly. “But his influence will diminish when I leave the Northern Territory in
a month and a half.”
Director Baker frowned. “That’s still plenty of time for him to cause trouble. These social complexities in our
professional community can be dangerous.”
“I can handle whatever comes,” I assured him.
(Director Baker’s POV)
After Elena left, I sat alone in my office, contemplating my impending retirement.
For years, I had known about the corruption but lacked the courage to act. The powerful backing behind
administrators like Cross made it too risky.
Perhaps Elena could achieve the reforms I had been unable to pursue during my career. She had the strength
I never possessed.
(Elena’s POV)
I returned to my healing chamber, only to find Marcus scrutinizing my files. My transfer application to

“Planning to abandon your pack duties?” he asked without looking up.
“It’s merely a transfer to an affiliated medical center,” I clarified.
Marcus’s golden eyes fixed on me with dangerous intensity. “Who authorized this transfer without my knowledge as your Alpha?”
“I initiated it myself,” I replied. “To avoid working alongside someone.”
The implication hung heavy in the air. Marcus scoffed.

“Running away, are we?” His voice dripped with disdain. “You could simply embrace your Luna status and
enjoy a life of luxury without working.”
He stepped closer, his presence overwhelming. “You initially wanted the wealth and status that came with
being mated to a Blackwood Alpha.”
“The Luna title means nothing to me,” I said calmly.
Marcus’s expression darkened. “Don’t be unappreciative of your position-”
His phone rang, interrupting his warning. Sophia’s name flashed on the screen.
Marcus answered immediately, his tone softening. “Sophia? Are you alright?”
I watched his face transform as he listened to her voice.
“Elena reported William Cross,” Sophia’s voice carried through the phone. “I wanted to intercede on his behalf.
There might be a misunderstanding.”
Marcus’s response was swift and cold. “Cross is corrupt. I won’t help him.”
He ended the call abruptly, leaving Sophia’s protests unheard.
I stared at him in surprise. His refusal to help Cross contradicted his usual willingness to fulfill Sophia’s
requests.
Marcus stood after a moment of silence. “Don’t repeat certain phrases again.”
His cryptic warning confused me as he left the chamber. I wondered what I had said to offend him.
(Sophia’s POV)
Marcus’s rejection stung like a physical blow. I had no choice but to seek help elsewhere.
I called Isabella Blackwood, who agreed to meet me without hesitation.
At an upscale restaurant in Silverbrook Shopping District, Isabella noticed my lack of appetite immediately.
“What’s wrong, Sister Sophia? You look distressed.”
I feigned sadness, letting my voice tremble. “I’m afraid Marcus and I are drifting apart.”
Isabella’s face filled with guilt. “I’m sorry for my harsh words at the birthday banquet. Marcus has waited for you for years – his feelings haven’t changed.”
“But he’s living with Elena,” I pressed. “They’re intimate.”
Isabella’s eyes widened briefly before she recovered. “Elena is desperately pursuing the Luna position, but

My grip tightened on my fork. I had planned to wait until Marcus secured Oliver’s future within the pack, but a month had passed without progress.
Elena’s growing threat demanded immediate action. I needed to devise a plan that would benefit both Oliver’s standing and my position within the Shadow Moon Pack.
