Chapter 7
The fire raged as firefighters battled the flames.
“There’s no other way out of there! If she tried to run, the only option would’ve been jumping into the ocean!”
“Let me go! I have to-”
Ethan fought desperately to leap into the water, but his men held him back with everything they had.
But how long could they really restrain someone like Ethan? Just as he was about to break free and jump, a fist slammed into his face.
“Snap out of it!” It was Jason.
Jason’s hand trembled as he pulled back, breathing hard:
“You know how calculating Ava can be. How do you know she didn’t fake her own death?”
“What are you talking about…”
Ethan clutched his face, his voice shaking as he stared at his brother.
Jason’s chest heaved as he doubled down on the lie:
“They haven’t found a body or the kidnappers. What if this is all just another one of Ava’s twisted schemes?”
“She’s probably getting off on watching you lose your shit. If you actually jump, then she really will have played you
like a fucking fool!”
Ethan’s mouth opened slightly. Then he actually laughed.
“Right… she could be faking it. She’s not dead…”
He stood up, his eyes red–rimmed from panic: “It’s all fake… has to be…”
“We found a body!” Someone shouted from the wreckage.
Ethan whipped around.
A white sheet covered the remains as they carried it out. He charged forward like a man possessed.
“Ethan, no!” Jason tried to stop him but got shoved aside. “Don’t look at it, man!”
But Ethan had already ripped away the sheet.
The body was charred beyond recognition. But the build matched Ava’s. His gaze traveled downward, and his pupils contracted in horror-

“Where are her fingers?”
His voice shook as he grabbed one of the workers: “Where the fuck are her fingers?!”
The worker looked terrified, completely out of his depth.
“Ethan, stop! They’re just doing their job! Leave them alone!” Jason wrapped his arms around his brother from behind.
But Ethan was spiraling: “Her fingers! Where are her goddamn fingers?!”
“ETHAN!” Jason screamed like a madman.
Seeing his brother about to collapse, he sighed heavily: “Let’s go home… we need to go home…”
But once they got back, Jason regretted everything.
A package arrived from the kidnappers.
Inside, arranged in neat rows, were ten bloody fingers.
