(Elena’s POV)
I woke up again in the recovery ward. Marcus and Dr. Jonathan Pierce were standing aside talking, but I
didn’t want to listen to what they were discussing about my condition.
The sterile white walls felt like they were closing in on me. Everything seemed unreal, like I was trapped in
someone else’s nightmare.
Ignoring Marcus and the doctor, I desperately tried to remove the IV from my hand. I needed to leave. I
needed to find my mother,
“Elena, stop!” Marcus rushed over, his hands covering mine as blood began to seep from where I was pulling
at the needle.
“I have to find her,” I insisted, struggling against his grip. “She’s waiting for me.”
Marcus held me tightly, his voice firm but gentle. “Elena, you need to face the truth. Your mother is gone.”
“No!” I refused to believe it. The pain in my chest was unbearable. I bit down hard on Marcus’s arm, tasting
blood.
Despite the pain, Marcus remained steady. “She’s gone, Elena. You need to face reality.”
Dr. Pierce stepped forward, his voice concerned. “It’s better not to stimulate her in her current

“I can’t trust you, Marcus. Not anymore.”
Marcus’s jaw tightened. “I know you don’t trust me because of David and Richard. I know you want to convict
Sophia.”
He paused, studying my face. “You’re persistent in blaming her. And honestly, her presence at Patricia’s fall
has sparked some suspicion in me as well,”
“But I’ll wait until the pack enforcement investigation concludes before making any judgments.”

At the Northern Territory Pack Enforcement Headquarters, Nurse Rebecca Hayes and I sat across from Officer Sarah Mitchell. Both of us appeared frightened, our hands trembling slightly.
I wiped tears from my eyes as I recounted the events. “We tried to stop her from jumping. Patricia was so distraught over her son’s condition and her mate’s death.”
Officer Mitchell nodded, taking notes. “What triggered the suicide attempt?”
“I mentioned her son’s involvement in the k********g incident, I said, my volce breaking. “She became hysterical after that.”

Detective Robert Hayes looked up from his files. “We can confirm the k********g incident. The suspect is currently in a vegetative state in another detention facility.”
The officers compared our statements carefully. Both Rebecca and I had said the same thing that mentioning Patricia’s vegetative son caused her emotional breakdown.
“Patricia did strangle my neck,” I added, touching my throat gingerly. “The nurse stopped her, but she was so

Officer Mitchell finished writing. “Your statements are consistent. We’ll need to review this with the Chief
Commander.
Chief Commander Harrison reviewed our two–page statement without revealing any emotion. Marcus waited
silently as the chief examined every detail.
“There’s nothing suspicious in these statements,” Chief Commander Harrison finally announced. “Due to
insufficient evidence of intentional murder, we’re releasing Miss Rivers.”
I walked out of the headquarters, relief flooding through me. Marcus was waiting outside, his expression
unreadable.
“I was so scared,” I said, letting tears flow freely. “It was horrible watching her fall.”
Marcus’s eyes narrowed. “What were you doing at Shadowmere Medical Center in the first place?”
“I was there to discuss Isabella’s matter with Adrian,” I replied quickly. “I happened to meet a nurse friend.”
“Stay out of Isabella’s affairs, Marcus warned, his voice cold. “And I’m starting to suspect your involvement in
Elena’s recent misfortunes.”
My heart pounded, but I forced myself to look hurt. “How can you blame me for Patricia, Da
situations? I tried to save her!”
“She let go of our hands, Marcus. There was nothing more I could do.”
Marcus frowned, clearly conflicted. Just then, his phone rang.
“Alpha Blackwood? Elena is missing from her room, came the urgent voice from the hospital.
Marcus’s face darkened. Tll be right there.” He turned to me. “Take a taxi home.”

As he drove away, I felt a mix of relief and resentment. After ten years of knowing me, he was finally starting
to suspect me.
(Elena’s POV)
Patricia’s body had been taken to the Northern Territory Memorial Services. I was brought to see her in the Cold Storage, and my heart shattered at the sight.
The visible signs of the fall were heartbreaking, despite the repairs done by Memorial Cosmetologist Sarah.
“I spent six hours working on her,” Sarah said gently. “I wanted her to look as she did in life.”
“Thank you,” I whispered, appreciating her efforts. “Could I have a few minutes alone with her?”

Sarah nodded and left quietly, I stood beside my mother’s still form, memorizing every detail of her peaceful face.
After my time with her, I left the memorial services. The bright sunlight felt cold against my skin, offering no

“I’m sorry,” I said, the words feeling inadequate. “If I had answered her phone calls, maybe I could have prevented this tragedy.”
Elena’s smile was sad and distant. “Thank you for everything you’ve done for us, Nathan.”
She turned to walk away, and I felt our connection severing like a broken thread.
I grabbed her arm desperately. “Elena, let me explain-”
Suddenly, Marcus appeared and his fist connected with my face. The force knocked me backward, pain exploding across my jaw.
I clenched my hands, feeling that once she left, I would never see her again.
Nathan Sterling was caught off guard and knocked over by Marcus’s force.
