The mention of the Blackwood family sent shockwaves through the crowd. Vivian Blackthorne’s face went white as she realized the enormity of their miscalculation.

safe around me.
Before leaving, he turned to Charles Mitchell with casual interest. “What business does Thomas Blackthorne
run?
“A steel plant, sir,” Charles Mitchell answered quickly, eager to please.
Marcus looked down at me, his golden eyes searching my face. “Do you want me to let them go?”
I looked back at Matilda Blackthorne lying on the ground, at Vivian Blackthorne standing frozen in shock. These people had tried to sell me like livestock.
“Their affairs have nothing to do with me,” I said coldly
Marcus smiled, and there was something predatory in the expression. He turned to Amber Stone. “Shut down the steel plant.”
“Yes, Alpha, Amber Stone replied without hesitation.
After Marcus carried me into the car, the slowly closing door isolated all the outside noise. Through the

Inside the car, Marcus gently touched my face. When I flinched away, he pulled me close against his chest.
“Why didn’t you return home?” he asked, his voice softer than I’d heard it in months.
I responded with weary resignation. “Do I even have a home anymore?”
“Moonhaven Estate is your home,” he asserted firmly.
He reached up and discarded my cheap hair accessory out the window. The plastic clip disappeared into the
darkness.
“How much did Matilda Blackthorne get paid to sell her granddaughter?” His voice was deceptively calm.
Marcus grabbed my chin, forcing me to look at him. “You’re quite a handful.”
“I didn’t ask Alpha Marcus to worry,” I retorted, trying to pull away.
Marcus’s grip tightened, his mood darkening. “Who would you rather have worry
out you? Nathan Sterling?”
I attempted to pull away, but he held me tightly. His eyes flashed with something dangerous.
“The thought of you mating with that fool…” He didn’t finish the sentence, but I could see the rage building in
his expression.

Back at Moonhaven Estate, Marcus carried me straight to the Alpha’s Private Bath Chamber. He began to remove my wedding dress with efficient movements.

William Thornfield, learning that his daughter had offended the Blackwood family, personally went to the Blackwood Consortium three times. Each time, he was refused a meeting.
Matilda Blackthorne and Thomas Blackthorne also came to the Blackthorne Family Compound. Marcus’s
Elite Guards drove them away before they even reached the yard.
Patricia Blackthorne was cremated at the Northern Territory Memorial Services. Marcus offered to arrange a
funeral, but I declined.
I buried my mother next to my father’s grave in Eternal Rest Cemetery in a simple ceremony. Marcus stayed with me at the grave for a while.
His phone rang. Amber Stone asking him to return to Moonhaven Estate. I hesitated, wondering about
Marcus’s motives.

Back at Moonhaven Estate, Marcus received another work call. He left me to go upstairs alone.
As I stepped out of the Steel Ascent, I encountered Sophia Rivers waiting outside my door.
“Marcus-” She turned with a smile, but when she saw me, her expression faltered. “It’s you…”
I curtly informed her that Marcus was downstairs. As I moved toward my Master Suite, Sophia suddenly
spoke.
“I’m sorry for your mother’s death,” she said, her voice dripping with false sympathy.
There was something in her tone that made me stop. A hint of smugness beneath the innocent facade.
I turned, confused. “What do you mean?”
Sophia feigned innocence, but I could see the hidden satisfaction in her eyes. “I mentioned your younger brother in front of your mother.”
She smiled meaningfully, her face innocent but with unmistakable smugness. “I didn’t expect you to lose your father and now your mother”
“Actually, I didn’t mean to talk about your brother in front of your mother, but she provoked me first.”
