(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
As the last ray of sunlight faded, twilight enveloped the city. In the Northern Territory Moonstone Manor was
bustling with activity, resembling a city that never sleeps.
I had reserved a private room on the second floor, drinking alone. The upstairs was quiet, contrasting sharply
with the lively atmosphere below.
The amber liquid in my glass reflected the dim lighting. Each sip burned, but not as much as the emptiness
in my chest.
Amber Stone approached with another man. “You can talk to Alpha Marcus yourself,” she said, then turned
and left.
The man still wore his “Psychology Counselor” work badge. He sat down opposite me with casual
confidence.
“Looks like you might need my services,” he joked, settling into the chair.
I simply offered him a bottle of wine without speaking.
Dr. Isaac Barnes accepted the bottle and poured himself a glass. “Amber Stone told me your mate ran away.”
His directness was refreshing after days of careful diplomatic language from my subordinates.
“She also mentioned your involvement with Sophia Rivers‘ son, he continued. “No she wolf could tolerate her mate being so involved with his ex girlfriend’s child”
The words hit like physical blows. I stared into my glass, seeing Elena’s face in the amber depth
“I thought she wouldn’t care,” I admitted, my voice hollow. “She endured years of insults during
assumed she was indifferent”
Dr. Isaac Barnes leaned forward, his expression serious. “But you were wrong”

valued power and status?”
I remained silent, unable to meet his gaze
“If that’s the case, she wouldn’t need to endure anything,” he pointed out. “Your grandmother favored her so much. Why would she need to endure any of that after mating into the family?”
The logic was undeniable. Margaret Blackwood had always protected Elena, yet Elena had suffered in
silence
“Many she wolves, including Sophia Rivers, wanted to mate into the Blackwood family,” Dr. Isaac Barnes continued “But your grandmother chose Elena.”
He paused, letting the words sink in. “That suggests Elena wasn’t as superficial as you thought
I recalled how I had disliked the Blackthorne Pack Richard Blackthorne, as my father–in–law, had repeatedly
asked me for benefits.
But Elena had only asked me once, and I knew she was doing it for the Blackthorne Pack. Apart from Richard
Blackthorne, what had Elena done?
She never used the Blackwood family’s connections. She kept our relationship private for six years.
She never asked for jewelry, bags, or clothes. Even when I gave her a black card, she never used it.
In the separation agreement, she only asked for one million. A small sum to me.
“Marcus, I can’t understand Elena anymore, Dr. Isaac Barnes sald, breaking into my thoughts. “Why did she mate with you, and why is she leaving now?”
He paused, then blurted out, “Maybe it’s because she loves you?”
My eyes lit up with desperate hope. “She… loves me?”
“If a she–wolf didn’t love you, she wouldn’t care if you had a first love or other she–wolves,” Dr. Isaac Barnes explained.
My expression softened as the possibility took root. Elena’s pain, her endurance, her final departure – it all
made sense if she loved me.
Dr. Isaac Barnes changed the subject, his tone becoming serious. “We need to discuss Oliver Rivers
psychological problems.”
My attention sharpened. “What about him?”
“His issues are more than just trauma from being pushed from a building,” Dr. Isaac Barnes said grimly
He leaned forward, his voice dropping. “Oliver has long–term psychological problems indicating abuse and intimidation.”
The words sent ice through my veins. “Abuse?”
“I’ve seen scars on his thighs, Dr. Isaac Barnes revealed. “A mixture of old and new wounds, suggesting ongoing abuse.”
My hands clenched into fists. “Are you certain?”
“A loving mother would never allow her child to have such injuries,” he said quietly. “Unless she was the one inflicting them.”

The revelation changed everything. After repeatedly uncovering Sophia’s lies, I knew I had to
further.
My expression turned grim as the full scope of Sophia’s deception became clear.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
A week later, I officially reported to the Neurosurgery Department of the Riverside Administrative Medical Center. The facility was impressive–the largest Grade III–A hospital in Riverside City, surpassing even the Northern Territory Central Healing Institute.
It covered 264 acres and was located by the river. The hospital buildings were spread out across the campus.
I nearly got lost trying to find the surgery department. Finally, I arrived and asked the receptionist for Director
Eric Taylor’s office.
The receptionist pointed to the left. “Down the hall, third door.
I knocked on the office door. After receiving permission, I entered.
The office was shared, with another young female doctor besides Director Eric Taylor. Both looked up as!

“I’m Elena Blackwood,” I introduced myself, presenting my resume. “I passed the vice president’s interview a
week ago. We’ll be colleagues from now on ”
Director Eric Taylor looked surprised as he reviewed my credentials. A young chief healer from my previous
hospital.
The female doctor also seemed taken aback by my qualifications.
I smiled professionally. “May I call you Director Taylor? Could you show me to my office location?”
Director Eric Taylor, pleased with my respectful approach, turned to his colleague. “Dr. Jane Porter, would you
take Elena to choose an office?”
Dr. Jane Porter stood up, glancing at me with a neutral expression. “Follow me.”
I nodded to Director Eric Taylor and left with Dr. Jane Porter.
As we walked down the corridor, I sensed a hint of hostility from her. The tension was subtle but
unmistakable.

“I see…” Dr. Jane Porter said nothing more and led me to an office. “This is your office.”
I thanked her and pushed the door open. Dr. Jane Porter watched me enter, hummed quietly, and turned to

Inside the office, there were two desks, One was occupied, with a neatly organized surface that spoke of
meticulous habits.
I placed my bag on the empty desk. My gaze was suddenly drawn to the orchids displayed on the windowsill.
Especially the pot of bright red orchids with fluorescent green leaves caught my attention. They were very
eye–catching.
I walked over unconsciously, wanting to take a closer look at the unusual specimens.
“Don’t touch.” A man’s voice came from outside the door.
I turned around, and my heart skipped a beat when I met the man’s gaze. I almost mistook him for Marcus Blackwood.
Although he and Marcus looked nothing alike, they had similar traits. Both possessed deep and stern eyebrows, belonging to the intense features type.
However, this man’s appearance was flamboyant and arrogant. While Marcus was refined and introverted,
with a faint and cold demeanor
“Sorry, I didn’t touch it,” I said quickly I just wanted to take a closer look”
“Who let you in?” His eyebrows furrowed with displeasure.
I realized he was probably used to being alone in this space. My presence clearly disturbed his routine.
“A healer named Dr. Jane Porter brought me here,” I explained. “She said this would be my office from now
