Chapter 135: Confessions and Confrontations
(Marcus Blackwood’s POV)
I stopped at the doorway, my hand frozen on the handle. Sophia’s desperate voice echoed behind me.
“Don’t you want to know who saved you when you were kidn*pped years ago!”
I turned slowly, my golden eyes meeting her tear–streaked face. “What did you say?”
Sophia struggled against her restraints, her voice cracking with desperation. “I lied to you, Marcus. I wasn’t
the one who saved you.”
The words hit me like a physical blow. Ten years of believing her story, ten years of feeling indebted to her.
“I can tell you who really saved you,” she continued, her voice growing stronger. “But I have one condition.”
I stepped closer, my jaw clenched. “You’re in no position to make demands.”
“If you accept my terms, I’ll never appear before you and Elena again,” she whispered. “I’ll disappear
completely from your lives.”
I stared at her broken form on the operating table. The woman I’d protected for years had been living a lie.
“Tell me,” I said coldly.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
One week later, I sat in the examination chair as the pack nurse carefully removed the stitches from my right
hand. The silver wound had healed, but my grip remained weak.
Jane handed me a pair of chopsticks. “Try holding these.”
I attempted to grasp them, but they slipped from my fingers immediately. The simple task felt impossible.
“Elena, will you ever be able to hold a scalpel again?” Jane’s voice was filled with worry.
I forced a smile, trying to comfort her despite being the patient. “I’m still young. I’ll recover.”
Jane’s expression darkened with anger. “Whoever hurt you should die for this.”
I examined the scar on my right hand with calm detachment. The crimson birthmark on Sophia’s wrist
flashed through my memory.

After Jane left, I heard footsteps in the corridor. The door opened to reveal Evelyn Ashworth with an
entourage bearing expensive gifts,
This was my first time meeting Hugo’s mother in person. Like Dorothea Whitmore, she possessed a distinctive beauty that commanded attention.
When Evelyn first saw me, her brow furrowed slightly. “You look familiar, but I can’t place where I’ve seen you before.”

She approached my bedside with practiced grace. “I came to apologize for the misunderstanding.
I met her gaze directly. “Lady Ashworth’s misunderstanding was having someone stab my hand with a silver dagger?”
Evelyn’s composed expression cracked. She hadn’t expected such blunt confrontation.
“I investigated what happened,” she said carefully. “I realize now that I was manipulated by Sophia Rivers.”
Her voice grew more earnest. “I only intended to detain you temporarily. I never expected her to exploit the
situation and cause actual harm.”
I remained silent, studying her face for signs of deception.
“Please accept these gifts as compensation,” Evelyn insisted, gesturing to her entour
“I don’t need expensive gifts,” I replied firmly.
“I insist,” she said, her tone brooking no argument. “It’s the least I can do.”
After some back–and–forth, I reluctantly accepted them. Evelyn’s entire demeanor transformed, becoming
warm and caring.
“How are you feeling? Is the pain manageable?” she inquired with genuine concern.
“I’m recovering well, thank you.”

Hugo didn’t turn around. “She has visitors.”
Their conversation was interrupted when Evelyn exited the room. She looked surprised to see both men
waiting.
“Marcus?” she said, confusion evident in her voice.
Marcus’s expression remained neutral. “I came to check on my mate.“>
The emphasis on “my mate” wasn’t lost on Evelyn. Her eyebrows rose slightly at his possessive tone.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV) After Evelyn and Hugo departed, Marcus entered my room. He moved to my bedside
and adjusted my blanket with careful precision.
“Margaret knows about your injury,” he said calmly. “She’s very worried about you.”
I nodded without speaking.
“Sophia’s right hand has been permanently disabled,” he continued with complete composure. “She will never
appear before you again.”

The ruthlessness in his voice struck me. I’d witnessed his cruelty toward me over the past six years, but seeing his decisive rejection of Sophia revealed a pattern.
Were all Alphas the same? Capable of unconditional devotion when in love, but showing only cruelty when that love ended?

Chapter 135 Confessions.
Marcus moved closer, his breath warming my face as his fingers caressed my cheek. I recognized his desire to kiss me and pulled away.
“If I had been the one to stab Sophia with a silver dagger,” I said quietly, “would you treat me the same way you’re treating her now?”
His face stiffened imperceptibly, his expression becoming unreadable.
I understood his silence. He couldn’t answer immediately, unwilling to lie to me.
“I thought you might lie to appease me,” I remarked.
His chest heaved as he spoke. “I’m sorry.”
“Marcus, I want to-”
“No,” he cut me off firmly. “I know what you’re going to ask, and the answer is no.”
His golden eyes burned with determination. “I will never let you go. I accept that you don’t love me now, but I’ll work hard to earn a place in your heart.”
I avoided his gaze and turned away. “I’m tired.”
He didn’t expose my avoidance, instead tucking the blanket around me more securely.
Marcus stayed at the hospital for over a week until my discharge. When I expressed my desire to return to Shadowmere Heights Residential Complex rather than Goldenpeak Mountain Territory, Amber Stone looked to him for direction.
His brow furrowed slightly, but he signaled for her to drive to the apartment.
Upon arriving at Shadowmere Heights, Marcus followed me upstairs. I opened the door with my passcode, acutely aware of his presence behind me.
He surveyed the entrance carefully, noting the absence of men’s shoes or signs of male cohabitation. His lips curved slightly in satisfaction.
“Are you satisfied now?” I confronted him. “I’m not living with Professor Ashworth.”
Marcus touched a lucky cat figurine on the entrance table. “The five million I gave you could buy a better place in Riverside City.”
“I need to save money for my brother’s medical expenses,” I explained.
He paused, looking at me intently. Did she know she wasn’t actually a member of the Blackthorne family?
“I can cover the medical expenses myself,” he offered.
The doorbell rang suddenly. Marcus opened it to find Hugo Ashworth standing outside.
“I guessed Elena was home after seeing your car downstairs,” Hugo explained.
I tried to reassure him. “Marcus is just visiting. He’ll leave soon.”
Marcus’s smile turned cold as he declared, “I’m living here.”
