(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
My face hardened as I stared at Sandy Parker with cutting contempt. “If you want to climb up the social ladder, at least wait until Alpha Marcus severs our mate bond.”
“Then you can have your candlelight dinners however you want, even if you eat yourself to death, I won’t care.”
I delivered my harsh words without once looking at Marcus Blackwood’s expression. The satisfaction of finally speaking my mind felt liberating.
I turned to leave, my spine straight with newfound defiance.

Sandy’s eyes turned red with tears as she complained to Marcus Blackwood. “Alpha Marcus, how can your Luna act like a shrew?”
Marcus’s face darkened like storm clouds gathering. His voice was ice–cold when he replied.
“She is a shrew. But what are you?”
Sandy opened her mouth to respond, but Marcus simply turned and walked away. His dismissal was absolute and final.
Amber Stone looked at Sandy with undisguised disdain, shaking her head slowly. “If you want to learn from Sophia Rivers how to climb up, you should first understand her manipulation tactics properly, you fool.”
Sandy completely lost her composure. Her voice rose to a shriek.
“You’re just a Beta assistant, how dare you talk about me!”

Samuel stood behind the second–floor window, observing everything that happened in the courtyard below. His weathered hands gripped the windowsill tightly.
A pack servant approached carefully, his voice respectful but troubled. “Alpha, Miss Elena is indeed Young
Master Adrian’s guest, and Luna Dorothea likes Miss Elena very much.”
The servant hesitated before continuing. “Even more than… more than she likes Miss Sandy.”
Samuel stopped playing with his prayer beads and fell into deep thought. The wooden beads clicked softly as
they stilled in his palm.
The daughter confirmed by the DNA test not only lacked his mate’s composure but also displayed petty mannerisms in every gesture. He could attribute this to her upbringing by adoptive parents.
With proper guidance, she could change her bad habits if she was truly his biological dau r. But was this really the case?
Thinking of Elena’s appearance, Samuel became even more confused about where things had gone wrong.
The resemblance to his mate was undeniable.

(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
Just as I was about to cross the street, someone suddenly grabbed my arm. I stumbled into a man’s embrace, the familiar scent hitting me immediately.
Recognizing Marcus Blackwood, I tried to push him away. But he gripped my shoulders tightly, his fingers digging into my skin.
“Elena, do you still care about me?”
After a few seconds of silence, I met his deep golden eyes. They burned with desperate intensity.
“Care about you? Aren’t you disgusting me by having dinner with another woman under the title of my mate?”
My voice rose with anger. “If you want to be with another woman, just sign the severing papers!”
Marcus’s knuckles bulged as his eyes grew dark and dangerous. “If you don’t care about me, why would you
mind?”
I struggled against his grip. “I just don’t want to find other men while bearing the title of a mated Luna!”
Marcus’s grip tightened painfully as he declared with fierce possessiveness. “I won’t allow you to find other
men.”
He pulled me into his arms, buried his head in my neck, and said hoarsely. “Don’t force me.”
My spine stiffened as I nearly forgot that this Alpha could do anything when he went crazy. I was now in the
Northern Territory where he could easily detain me.
Taking a deep breath, I forced my tone to soften. “Marcus, let me go first.”
He pressed his palm against the back of my head, his lips dangerously close to my face. “I’ll take you
somewhere.”
I shivered and grabbed Marcus’s arm, my face pale with sudden fear. “Where are you taking me?”
Seeing my nervousness, Marcus’s expression darkened as he smiled coldly. “In your eyes, am I someone who
would harm you?”
While he indeed wouldn’t harm me, he might imprison me. The thought sent ice through my veins.
I bit my lip nervously. “Tell me where first.”
His smile was predatory. “You’ll know when we get there.”
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
During the journey, I stared out the window, mentally planning dozens of escape strategies. My mind raced through every possible scenario.
When Amber Stone stopped the car at a familiar courtyard, my breath caught. The Blackthorne family compound remained unchanged from my memories.
I realized Marcus had bought my foster family’s old territory. The frony wasn’t lost on me.
I looked out the window for a long time without getting out. Memories flooded back like a dam bursting.
Marcus turned to me, his voice gentler now. “Won’t you go in and take a look?”
I withdrew my gaze from the familiar walls. “There’s no need. This isn’t my home anymore.”

“But it’s where you grew up,” he said softly.
“With no one left, it’s just an empty house. What’s there for me to miss?”
Marcus asked about my foster brother David Blackthorne. I clarified that I was talking about the house itself.
He smiled and touched my hair with unexpected tenderness. “When David recovers and returns to the
Northern Territory, your foster father’s house will return to its rightful owner.”
“You won’t have to worry about the Blackthorne family relatives fighting over it anymore.”
When I asked what happened to those relatives, Amber Stone explained from the front seat. “After the bankruptcy of Vivian Blackthorne and her mate Thomas Blackthorne’s steel factory, Thomas owed
high–interest loans due to gambling.”
“Vivian is divorcing him. The whole family is in chaos with no time for other matters.”
I brought up the painful memory that had haunted our relationship. “My foster father borrowed two million from you years ago.”
“My uncle’s gambling debts had forced my father to seek that loan.” My voice grew bitter with old pain.

Elena’s words hit me like physical blows. I realized my past misjudgment of her character had been completely wrong.
She had never been greedy for power and money. Her family had been desperate, trying to save a relative
from dangerous debt.
Unable to bear hearing more of my failures, I interrupted her. “Stop.”
My voice was rough with regret. “Let me drive you back to your hotel.”

True to my word, I had Amber Stone drive Elena to her hotel. Before she got out, I grabbed her wrist one last
time.
“Elena, my dinner was with Samuel Whitmore, not with her.” My voice was muffled with shame.
Elena simply acknowledged this and went back to her room. I watched her disappear through the lobby
doors.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I finally relaxed against my hotel room door, my body sagging with exhaustion. The confrontation had drained me completely.
Adrian Whitmore called, his voice apologetic. “Jacob Hayes reported that my father gave you trouble. I’m
sorry.”
“It’s fine,” I replied, though it wasn’t.
“Adrian, can I ask about your and your mother’s blood types?”
He seemed surprised by the question. “We’re both type O, though my father and grandfather have Rh–negative
blood.”

After ending the call, my expression grew serious. A new suspicion was forming in my mind.
I immediately called Rachel Thompson, my fingers trembling slightly as I dialed.
“Rachel, I need you to investigate the blood type of the hospitalized William Parker’s daughter.”
