Chapter 240

Emily leaned even closer, her voice laced with sarcasm as she explained, “You thought just because you had dirt on Jeremy, you could just sit back and wait for him to bail you out?

“This whole mess is way too big now. The price to save you is just too high. With how selfish and greedy Jeremy is, do honestly think he’d stick his neck out for you?

“No, for someone like him, silencing you for good and making sure there are no loose ends is the smartest move.

“So, what do you think is going to happen to your dad now that you’re stuck here, unable to say a word?”

Emily didn’t know Jeremy all that well, but Zack had told her that Jeremy was the kind of man who always made sure to tie up every loose end.

She leaned close to Yvonne’s ear, speaking each word slowly and clearly, “You know Jeremy better than I do. Do you think a guy like him would settle for just having you turned into a vegetable?”

Maybe Jeremy’s original plan was to have Yvonne beaten to death, but she was just tough enough to survive. After all, only the dead stay silent, and someone in a vegetative state could wake up at any time.

That was just Emily’s guess. Whether Jeremy thought that way or not, she didn’t know, and she had zero interest in finding

out.

All Emily wanted was for Yvonne to realize that as long as she was still breathing, Jeremy could have her killed at any time. And as for the only person left who could actually back her up, Walter, was in danger.

Emily’s lips curled into a wicked grin. “Yvonne, you managed to survive. But do you think your dad’s luck will hold out like yours?”

The woman on the bed still didn’t move, but Emily felt a rush of satisfaction like never before. She’d said her piece, and her time was up. There was no reason to stick around any longer.

Emily gathered her things and stood up. Just before leaving, she glanced back and added with a mocking smile, “Wishing you a speedy recovery, Yvonne.”

She honestly hoped Yvonne would wake up soon, so she could face the Zwick family teetering on the edge, deal with Jeremy, who’s just waiting to pounce, and live with the label of “abuser” stuck to her wherever she goes.

But if she never woke up, that was fine, too. She’d be trapped in a world of darkness and constantly terrified that Jeremy might show up to finish the job.

Maybe it was because Emily finally felt like she’d settled a score. She felt lighter than she ever had before when walking out of the room.

When the weekend rolled around, she’d make a trip to the cemetery. She’d get Zack’s tombstone engraved and share all this good news with him and Quiana.

Emily made her way out of the hospital, but just as she was about to reach the exit, a security guard stepped in and blocked her path.

The next moment, a swarm of doctors and nurses burst in from outside, pushing a gurney with a blood-soaked figure on it as they raced toward the emergency corridor.

As the gurney sped past her, Emily glanced at the bloodied person, and her heart skipped a beat. It was Walter.

Chapter 240

Jeremy made his move?’ Emily thought. Right as that thought crossed her mind, her phone suddenly rang.

Emily glanced at the caller ID, and she hurried out of the hospital. It was the person she’d assigned to keep an eye on Walter, calling to report that he’d been in a car accident.

The man reported, “While he was crossing an intersection, a small truck just plowed right into his car. The impact sent his car flying several feet away. When the driver got out, he reeked of alcohol. The cops already took him away.

“We’ve been following him the whole time, and we just checked the dashcam. That truck had been parked there the whole time, waiting for him to show up. It was definitely a setup.

“Since the cops already took the driver away, we couldn’t do anything else. We just wanted to let you know what happened.”
