Chapter 241

Chapter 241

Emily had already guessed that Jeremy would make a move against Walter, but she hadn’t expected him to act so fast, pulling something like that in broad daylight.

She knew Jeremy’s methods were anything but ordinary, and she probably wouldn’t find much, but she still arranged for

someone to look into the hit-and-run driver.

She also had more people quietly stationed at the hospital to protect Walter. If he managed to survive, Jeremy would make another move, and she had to make sure everything was in place.

As Emily was making arrangements over the phone and heading out, she had barely taken a few steps when someone blocked her way. “Ms. Harper, what a coincidence!”

It was Jeremy. He appeared out of nowhere and took the initiative to greet her with a smile. He acted so naturally, it was as if they’d known each other for years.

Emily put away her phone and gave him a polite but distant nod, acknowledging his greeting.

She and Jeremy were complete strangers with absolutely no connection. If they passed each other on the street, they should’ve acted like they didn’t even recognize one another.

For him to stop her like that, there’s no way he just wanted to say hi. Sure enough, Jeremy asked, “Ms. Harper, are you here to see Yvonne?”

Emily looked up at him and shot back, “And you, Mr. Windrose?”

Jeremy didn’t deny it, but explained further, “Ms. Harper, don’t get me wrong. My relationship with Yvonne is strictly business. I had no clue about what she was up to. I’m only here today because we’ve worked together before.

The reason I didn’t clear up those rumors before was for the sake of our families’ partnership. Ms. Harper, you’ve been brought up in the Bennett Family, so I’m sure you understand, right?”

Emily didn’t get why Austin was telling her all this. Staying on guard, she said, “Mr. Windrose, we don’t even know each other. You don’t owe me any explanations.”

At that moment, she had no way to deal with Jeremy, nor did she have any leverage over him. It wasn’t wise to get involved with him any further. So, after saying that, Emily was about to walk away.

Jeremy didn’t get upset by her attitude. Instead, he said, “The whole thing at the benefit dinner was your trap, wasn’t it, Ms. Harper?”

Emily stopped in her tracks. She couldn’t figure out why Jeremy sounded so certain.

Everyone knew she was no longer “Ms. Bennett”, and she didn’t have the means to mess with anything at the benefit dinner. So, when Yvonne pointed the finger at her in front of everyone, nobody believed it.

They all assumed. Yvonne was just blaming her out of old grudges, lashing out in panic and confusion because of their rocky history.

Emily didn’t answer, so Jeremy spoke up again, “Ms. Harper, relax. I’m not here to settle any old scores. Honestly, I admire how sharp you are. I’d like to be friends.”

Emily pressed her lips into a thin line. “Since you want to be friends, why don’t you start by being honest with me? Mr. Windrose, did you have no clue about Yvonne bullying her classmates back then?

Chapter 241

“Sure, with the Zwick family’s pull, they could bribe the principal and keep things quiet. But those finishing tasks were beyond what the Zwick family could do alone.

“You were the one who covered for the Zwick family back then, weren’t you?” Even though she phrased it as a question, the certainty in her eyes was unmistakable.

Jeremy’s smile faltered for a split second, but he kept it on his face. After a brief pause, he put his gentlemanly mask back on. “I think you may have misunderstood me, Ms. Harper.”
