Chapter 248

Lydia said, “Mom, I heard from Andrew that a partnership with the Windrose family is important for us. It’s just a shame the last benefit dinner had to be canceled because of an emergency.

“Andrew’s been preparing for it all this time, just so we can finally secure the deal with the Windrose family.

“If Emily starts getting close to Mr. Windrose right now and ends up offending him, wouldn’t that be bad for the Bennett family?”

She looked completely innocent, as if she was just asking a simple question, not trying to steer things in any particular

direction.

Emma’s face changed in an instant. She’d only thought Emily was shameless. But Lydia’s words suddenly made her realize something she hadn’t considered before.

The deal with the Windrose family was a big deal. If it affected the company’s interests, there was no way Gale or Andrew would just sit back and let it slide.

Why can’t Emily be more mature, like Lydia? Why does she always have to stir up so much trouble?’ Emma thought.

Emma’s face fell. “Once we’re home, I’ll have a word with Andrew. We absolutely can’t let her jeopardize the company’s interests.”

“Emily won’t listen to anyone. Even if we tell Andrew, it won’t make a difference,” Lydia said. “Even if it’s not Jeremy, it could be some other guy. The best way is to put a stop to her using the Bennett family’s name.”

She took Emma’s hand, her voice so soft it was almost enchanting. “Mom, you saw how well Emily and Xavier used to get along. Even when she was kidnapped, it was Xavier who found her and brought her back.

“They’ve been through life-and-death situations together, and Xavier is someone we know inside out. The Jenkins family just recently partnered with us.

“If we could help them get together, not only would it put an end to Emily’s habit of getting close to all sorts of men, it’d also be good for the Bennett family.

“As for Mrs. Jenkins, she used to be against Emily and Xavier seeing each other. After all, Emily’s got a pretty bad reputation in Cloudridge.

“But just the other day, she told me herself that she just can’t bear to see her son unhappy. Now that Emily and Xavier both have feelings for each other, she won’t try to stop them anymore.”

What she said was laughable and totally illogical, like she was a completely different person from the sweet, innocent act she usually put on. Anyone normal could tell something was off.

But Emma, not thinking twice, nodded in strong agreement. “You’re right. Getting Emily and Xavier together is a once-and-

for-all solution.”

Emma looked at Lydia with a face full of pride, beaming. “My Lydia is so clever. Not only are you kind-hearted, but you also find ways to help the family out of trouble. Not like Emily….

“Never mind, let’s not mention her. Come on, I’ll take you to see the doctor first. When we get home, I’ll buy you a few of the latest bags to spoil my precious girl.”

Lydia hooked her arm through Emma’s, whining sweetly, “I’m not into buying bags right now. If you feel bad for me, just give me some money as a gift instead. I’ll pick out whatever I want myself.”

Chapter 248

Emma’s face was full of motherly affection. “Alright, alright, anything for you.” Arm in arm, the two of them walked into the hospital, looking even more loving and harmonious than any real mother and daughter could ever be.

Emily had no clue what was happening after she left. She had people monitoring Jeremy, but she never caught on to what he did to Yvonne and Walter. That made her realize that she couldn’t go up against Jeremy.

Just then, some new clues turned up about Bob’s car accident, so she immediately reassigned more people to look into it.

As for Yvonne and Quiana, Emily figured that chapter was pretty much closed. So, she moved on to the last bit of cleanup. She had Zack’s name engraved on a tombstone.
