Chapter 311

After Bob’s accident, Emily had people keeping tabs on Lydia. To be extra cautious, she even arranged several teams to watch her, so not even Lydia’s smallest move could escape Emily’s notice.

Lydia was always super cautious. Even when she slipped money to Cale, she didn’t show a single flaw. But this time, she was rattled-she reached out to Cale herself and set up a private meeting.

Worried about scaring them off, Emily’s people didn’t dare get too close, so they couldn’t hear what Lydia and Cale were talking about.

But just by watching Lydia’s reaction, it was clear she was furious and impatient, but she seemed helpless against Cale, like he had something on her.

After whatever they talked about, Lydia handed over a huge wad of cash to Cale, who immediately bought a ticket for a ship heading overseas. It was obvious he was planning to make a run for it.

Emily immediately contacted the people she had watching Cale and ordered them to tie him up on the spot.

Emily pondered, ‘With Lydia’s personality and methods, there is no way she’d ever let a leech like Cale keep clinging to her. Cale must hold some serious dirt over her head-something Lydia couldn’t afford to ignore.

‘No matter what kind of dirt Cale has on Lydia, I can’t let Cale off the hook.’

But now that they had Cale tied up, Emily had a brand new headache-what the heck was she supposed to do with him?

All the people Emily had now were the ones Charles had left her, and the Bennett Family was well aware of the situation.

She thought, ‘Given how the Bennett Family turns into idiots whenever Lydia is involved, it is entirely possible that Lydia would use them to hunt down Cale.

‘Besides, there is just something off about Lydia. That bodyguard who’d followed Grandpa Charles for six or seven years? Lydia still managed to find a way to exploit à weakness and slip past him!

Emily couldn’t shake the feeling that no matter where she hid Cale, it wouldn’t be safe.

When Austin realized what was troubling her, he said, “Emily, if you trust me, just leave him to me. I promise—even if the Bennett Family searches every inch of Cloudridge, they’ll never find him.”

Emily trusted Austin completely. She knew that if he said he could do it, he had the skills to back it up. But she also knew Austin had been keeping a low profile in Cloudridge, like he was lying low, hiding from someone.

She thought, ‘Austin had already stepped in to help me more than once, and if he keeps sticking his neck out for me, sooner or later, it is bound to cause him trouble!’

When he realized what she was worried about, Austin let out a laugh, his whole demeanor lighting up with amusement. He said, “I’m really glad you care about me, Emily. It just proves that I mean something different to you than everyone else.

“If I said getting involved wouldn’t bring me any trouble, I know you wouldn’t buy it. But my cover’s already blown anyway, so whether it brings trouble or not doesn’t even matter anymore.

“If I were the type to back off just because things might get messy, then you never should’ve saved me from those kidnappers in the first place. Because honestly, I’m the real trouble here.”

Austin didn’t bother with polite lines like “I’m not afraid of trouble” or “It won’t cause me any problems.” Instead, he spoke with complete honesty, telling Emily exactly how things were.

In front of Emily, Austin was always his most genuine self. And that sincerity was exactly what Emily cared about most. She’d seen more than her fair share of lies and betrayal, so Austin’s genuine sincerity felt all the more precious to her.
