Chapter 339
So the next day, Lydia got all dolled up and headed out to meet him. The place they agreed to meet was a fancy restaurant.
Maybe to show how much he valued Lydia, or maybe for some other reason, Jeremy had actually booked out the whole floor of the place.
When Lydia arrived, he even stood up to pull out her chair for her-every gesture was the picture of a gentleman.
Lydia maintained her graceful smile throughout, as if this really was just a simple dinner between friends.
After some gentlemanly small talk, Jeremy finally cut to the chase. “I’m guessing things between you and Emily aren’t exactly friendly, right?”
The real daughter and the impostor-some people were just born to be rivals. Jeremy’s question really came out of nowhere.
Seeing the caution in Lydia’s eyes, Jeremy smiled calmly. “To be honest, I have a personal grudge against Emily, so…”
He poured Lydia a cup of coffee and said, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend, isn’t it?”
Lydia’s eyes sparkled, and she couldn’t help getting a little worked up. “You have a personal grudge against Emily? That means you hate her, right?”
Jeremy gave Lydia a thoughtful look. He could easily tell how excited and fired up Lydia got the moment she heard he had a grudge against Emily. It was almost like she’d been afraid from the very beginning that he might get close to Emily.
He kept his thoughts to himself and nodded with a gentlemanly smile. “Yeah, I really hate her. In my eyes, she doesn’t even come close to you, Ms. Bennett.”
Lydia knew there was probably some flattery in his words, but she still loved hearing them.
No matter what had happened between Jeremy and Emily, as long as Jeremy wasn’t obsessed with Emily anymore and became her most loyal simp, that was exactly what she wanted to see.
Lydia thought, ‘I’m gonna make sure Emily lost everything, one step at a time!’
Lydia’s smile grew even wider as she reached out to pick up the cup of coffee Jeremy had poured for her. Her meaning couldn’t be clearer.
Both of them were all smiles, each hiding their own agenda, but neither noticed that someone outside the glass window happened to catch sight of them clinking their glasses together.
Emily never expected that just by stepping out for a bit, she’d end up seeing the two of them together like that.
Since she was too far away to hear what they were saying, her mind involuntarily went back to that time at the hospital when she ran into Jeremy.
She’d always thought Lydia only approached Jeremy to compete with her. She thought, ‘But it has been ages since Jeremy and I have had any real contact. So why is Lydia still trying to cozy up to him?’
From what Emily knew about Lydia, if there was nothing to gain from Jeremy, Lydia would never bother putting in this much effort. To confirm her suspicions, Emily reached out to Jeremy the very next day.
Getting Jeremy to meet up wasn’t hard. After all, just recently, he’d been trying to get 3% of Bennett Group’s shares from her. She pretended to be friendly with him, making him think she wanted his help to get a foothold in Bennett Group.
Jeremy kept up his gentle smile and said, “How could I ever do anything to hurt someone as gorgeous as you, Ms. Harper?

Don’t worry. I definitely won’t help anyone else go against you.”
He promised with such conviction, but Emily knew better. She couldn’t believe a single word that came out of his mouth. But she didn’t expose him. Instead, she put on a grateful act and toasted him with her drink.
Then, without missing a beat, she made sure the news of her dinner with Jeremy reached Lydia in a way that wouldn’t arouse any suspicion.
