“Ms. Quinn, people always say I have beautiful eyes. I never thought much of it, until I saw yours today. Now I get it; they really are beautiful.”
Becky paused, lifting her gaze to look at him.
She had to admit, they did look alike.
Both had striking, almond–shaped eyes.
But it was just a small moment in passing.
Becky wrote up his prescription and sent him outside to pick up his medicine.
The man exited the traditional medicine clinic, where a black MPV was waiting for him. A man stepped out of the car.
“Logan, hurry up and get in.”
Once inside, Logan pulled off his hat and mask, revealing an absurdly handsome face.
His assistant, Ander, couldn’t help but sigh, as he always did. No wonder he’s the dream of a billion girls. The man is gorgeous.
Logan gave his head a shove. “Don’t look at me like that, it’s disgusting.”
Ander smacked his lips and looked away.
“So? Did you see Ms. Quinn’s face? My mom says she’s really young. Total knockout, apparently.”
Logan leaned back. “I was there for treatment, not a date.”
“Oh.”
Ander stuck out his tongue.
“My mom says Ms. Quinn’s the real deal. I bet she’ll cure your insomnia.”
Logan didn’t have high hopes. Still, something on its last legs fights the hardest, might as well give it a shot.
He tossed the medicine to Ander. “You brew it.”
“Okay.”
“You even know how?”
“Uh… I’ll ask my mom.”

That night, Logan took the medicine, and to his amazement, actually fell asleep. He slept straight through, dreamless, until the next morning.
When he woke up, he felt clear headed and refreshed.
Overjoyed, he threw his arms around Ander. “I really slept! My God, I haven’t slept that well in years. This is unbelievable, Ms. Quinn is incredible; I don’t know how she did it, but she saved me.”

Getting hugged first thing in the morning made Ander blush.
Finally, mom did something right.
Logan was so thrilled, he immediately transferred 1000 dollars to Ander.
“Get your mom something nice to eat and use. I owe her big time.”
Of course, the one he was truly grateful to was Ms. Quinn.
So young; so capable.
That evening, Becky stepped out of the clinic and saw Xavier leaning against his car.
As soon as he spotted her, he walked over.
“I’ll take you home.”
“No need.”
“Becky, don’t be childish.”

She gave a visible shiver and shook out her shoulders. “Can you not say my name like that? Gives me goosebumps.”
“If Jose can call you that, why can’t I? That’s what I used to call you, remember?”
“That was then. Things are different now. We’re not that close anymore. Exes don’t become friends. Divorced couples don’t magically turn into a family. Got it?”
Xavier shook his head. “Nope.”
“Fine. Then just stay away from me.”
“Can’t do that.”
Becky narrowed her eyes at him. “You’re seriously clingy, you know that?”
Xavier chuckled inwardly. Finally figured that out, huh, little dummy?
Being clingy was all he had left.
“I’ll take you home.”
Becky waved him off. “Don’t bother. I’m heading to the supermarket. Bye!”
“I’ll come with you.”
She patted his chest lightly. “With your status, maybe don’t. You’re like a walking HVAC unit–you’ll scare off the other customers. The store owner’s gonna make you pay for the losses.”
Xavier caught her wrist and gently pulled her toward him, winking.
“It’s hot out. Wouldn’t something cool and portable be just what you need?”
Becky blinked, hard, twice. Did that just happen? Did he just wink at me? No way. No way! I must’ve imagined it.

While she stood there in a daze, Xavier took her hand and started walking toward the supermarket across the street.
“This is the one?”
Snapping out of it, Becky tried to shake off his hand, but he’d already let go.
The store wasn’t far; by then, they were already at the entrance.
Xavier grabbed a shopping cart and turned to her. “Don’t just stand there. Let’s go.”
Becky pressed her lips together and followed him in.
They were out of vegetables, meat, and eggs at home; there was a lot she needed.
She took her time picking through items; before long, the cart was nearly full.
Xavier walked beside her, pushing the cart, watching as she carefully checked each item’s expiration date and ingredient list before tossing it in.
As they passed the dairy section, they saw a crowd gathered.
Becky, curious, went over.
A promoter was calling out, “Yogurt! Yogurt! Today only–buy one, get one free! Don’t miss out!”
Becky liked yogurt, so she grabbed two packs.
Seeing a male celebrity on the packaging, she paused, he looked familiar. She held it up for a closer look. Where have I seen him before?
“Is he more handsome than me?”
Xavier’s head was practically resting on her shoulder; from behind, they looked like any ordinary young couple, close and comfortable.
That warm, woody scent unique to Xavier wrapped around her.
Becky nudged him away and kept studying the face on the yogurt box.
“He’s better looking than you.”
