But that single forehead kiss from Xavier left Becky’s heart in chaos.
Xavier left quickly. “Morning kiss. Go cat. I’m off.”
Becky stood there dazed. Once he was gone, she exploded.
“Damn it, Xavier, you bastard! You took advantage of me!”
Meanwhile, Xavier strolled into the office in high spirits.
Kevin and the others started speculating. He must’ve gotten some amazing news–his good mood was contagious throughout the whole building.
It was completely out of character.
But no one dared to ask.
Logan snuck out in the dark again, on his way to try persuading Becky once more. To show his sincerity, he even brought a suitcase full of cash.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t at the traditional medicine clinic.
The old man at the counter said she was on leave and wouldn’t be coming in for a while.
Logan’s trip ended in vain.
As he stepped out of the clinic, he got a call from Circovia.
His expression tightened. After ending the call, he rushed to the car and sped off toward the airport.
Star Holdings was thrown into chaos again that night,
Julia, the wife of Janus–the former head of the Shanks family–had suffered another sudden downturn in her health.
The family waited anxiously in the main house.
Because Julia had been in poor health for years, the Shanks family had hired the best medical experts to stay at the estate, providing 24–hour care.
At that moment, doctors were working to save her inside the room.
Janus sat in the primary seat, his face clouded with worry.
Logan arrived, worn and dusty from travel. “How’s my mom?”
Wayne answered, “They’re still trying to stabilize her.”
Logan collapsed into a chair, as if all the strength had been drained from his body.
Julia had suffered similar episodes many times over the years, each one terrifying them all. But each time, she pulled through in the end.

He silently prayed she’d make it again.
Lyle glanced at the suitcase in Logan’s hands.
“What’s that?”
“Gash,” Logan replied.
“You brought home a suitcase of cash?”
“I met an amazing traditional medicine doctor in Dracovia. She cured my insomnia.”
Everyone was stunned.

Logan had struggled with insomnia for years. Ever since the youngest Shanks sister went missing, he’d had recurring nightmares, waking in a panic, unable to fall asleep. It had only gotten worse in recent years.
Wayne observed, “No kidding, you actually look better.”
Every time they saw him before, he looked like a vampire–deathly pale with dark circles under his eyes.
Of course, as an actor, makeup always hid his condition on screen.
“That doctor was incredible,” Logan said. “The first day I took her medicine, it worked. Now I’m basically cured. I wanted to bring her here to look at Mom, but she didn’t believe me. Thought I was some scammer, kicked me, and threw me out. I brought the cash today to show my sincerity, but she wasn’t there. Then I got a call from our brother and rushed back, suitcase and all.”
The three brothers twitched at the corners of their mouths.
Someone actually dared to kick Logan?
This woman wasn’t ordinary.
Lyle said, “Logan, don’t waste your time. We’ve got the top doctors in the country here. That little traditional medicine doctor might be able to cure minor stuff like your insomnia, but don’t joke around with Mom’s condition.”
“I just wanted to try,” Logan mumbled.
Wayne patted his shoulder. “I get it, and I appreciate the thought. But even if you brought her here, I’d have to vet her before she gets anywhere near Mom.”
Julia’s condition was too fragile. They couldn’t take any chances.
Logan understood.
Still, for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that Ms. Quinn might be able to help his mother.
If he got the chance, he’d definitely bring her to see Julia.
Janus had kept his eyes closed this whole time. Only when he heard footsteps did he finally look toward the
stairs.
Two doctors came down, removing their surgical masks.

The Shanks family let out a collective breath of relief when they saw the doctors‘ expressions.
She was safe.

After so many close calls, they’d learned to read the doctors‘ faces. And right now, the look said it all: successful.
Sure enough, the lead doctor reported to Janus, “She’s out of danger. She’ll need a long period of rest, and we’ll need to continue monitoring her condition closely in case of relapse.”
Janus staggered to his feet, looking as though he’d aged several more years.
“Thank you.”
The doctors left quietly.
Logan was helped upstairs by the staff.
The other three Shanks sons followed.
Inside the room, there was a full suite of advanced medical equipment and two doctors stationed by the bed.
Julia lay there, so frail it seemed a gust of wind could carry her away.
Janus walked over. Julia opened her eyes and parted her dry, cracked lips.
“Janus… I think I saw Lily just now. She was smiling at me.”
Janus took her hand. “Don’t worry. We’ll find Lily. We will.”
“I’m not ready to go yet. I haven’t seen my Lily.”
“You will. But don’t talk now–just rest.”
Julia closed her eyes.
The four brothers stood nearby, their faces heavy with sorrow.
Losing the youngest Shanks daughter had been a wound on the entire family–and a burden on Julia’s heart that never healed.
