Chapter 344
Sean, who had been so cocky just moments ago, had completely deflated. “Stay back,” he shouted, retreating as he shoved his bodyguards forward. “Do something and stop them.”
Sean had brought along his best-trained security team, but they were clearly no match for the people Austin sent.
In no time, his bodyguards were all taken down except for one woman, who was still standing between him and the others.
She was clearly injured, barely able to stand, yet she stayed in front of Sean, unwavering in her duty.
Something about the scene caught Emily’s attention. Something about the way she fought reminded her of her younger self. Back in St. Gabriel Reform Academy, Emily fought like that too, risking everything to get out of that place with her friends.
After thinking for a moment, Emily said, “Stop.” Her target was Sean, so she thought there was no point dragging those men into her fight.
As soon as Emily spoke, the fight came to a sudden halt. She shot a warning glare at Sean, saying, “I won’t be so nice next time.” Then she walked off with her people.
Sean breathed a sigh of relief and quickly dropped his cowering act. He happily patted the female bodyguard on the shoulder. “Isolde, that was awesome. You’re the best damn guard we’ve had. You’re better than even Deborah.
“Don’t worry. You’ll get a much better deal than Deborah ever had.”
As soon as Emily heard those names, she stopped and quickly turned around.
Emily strode over, looking fierce. Sean, who had just started to relax, turned pale and scrambled to hide behind Isolde. “What else do you want?”
Emily ignored him completely, fixing her gaze on the woman named Isolde. “Do you know Deborah? Is she an orphan? Did the security company sell her to a client five years ago?”
Isolde was stunned. For once, her cool expression cracked, and there seemed to be a trace of surprise in her eyes.
Just then, Sean got pissed and shot back in a shrill voice, “What do you mean? It was just a normal business deal. And how did you know Deborah, anyway?”
He was too mad to be scared now, He stepped in front of Isolde, glaring furiously at Emily.
Emily frowned, clearly fed up. “Pull him away.”
As her people moved to grab Sean, Isolde snapped out of it and threw herself in front of him again. Her gaze was guarded, and her expression was cool. “Yeah, I knew Deborah, but that was five years ago.
“I got where I am today because of my hard work and Mr. Sinclair’s help. If this is about her, then go tell her I don’t owe her anything”
She sounded indifferent and looked kind of annoyed, like she just wanted nothing to do with Deborah anymore.
Emily froze, completely caught off guard by what she just said.
Deborah’s biggest regret before dying wasn’t that she hadn’t taken her revenge, but that she never got to see again the girl she had rescued from the orphanage.
Emily thought that Isolde cared for Deborah as much as Deborah cared for her, but that wasn’t the case. She stared at Isolde

for a long time, yet found no emotion behind that indifferent face.
Her heart grew heavy. Unsure whether it was anger or disappointment, she said nothing and walked off quickly.
Isolde never wavered as she watched her walk away. However, there was something barely noticeable in her eyes.
She turned her head and saw Sean watching her intently as if trying to see right through her. She stayed calm, didn’t move or say a word.
After a long silence, Sean broke the silence. “Deborah has been gone for five years, and now there’s news. Aren’t you
curious?”
Isolde seemed to have expected the question. She shook her head and said, “If she’d shown up two years ago, I might have been curious, but I just don’t care anymore.
“Mr. Sinclair, I’m grateful to you for the fat paycheck every month and the power to run people in this company. I’m no longer the orphan who needed her to survive.”
Sean was pleased with her answer, but he kept probing. “But you two used to be close. If she hadn’t pulled you out of the snow back then, you would have frozen to death. She took care of you all those years in the orphanage.
“Even after the orphanage closed, she was the one who cared for you and raised you. Can you really leave her behind?”
At the mention of the past, Isolde’s expression softened, but then became firm again. “I owe her, but I want to care about myself now. I’m sure she feels the same way. If I see her again, I’ll try to make it up to her.”
She sounded sincere, but Sean could tell she was distant inside. That actually made him happier.
“Great, you’re very smart.” Sean gave her a friendly pat on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. As long as you’re loyal to me, you’ll never be treated badly.”
Thank you, Mr. Sinclair.” Isolde lowered her head, her tone sincere. However, her eyes were icy and full of hatred.
Emily felt like something was stuck in her chest. In her memory, Deborah had always been someone who valued justice very
much.
Being sold out by the company and dumped at St. Gabriel Reform Academy by her boss left Deborah with a strong grudge and a need for revenge.
Yet, in her final moments, the only thing she really cared about was Isolde, the girl she had raised herself.
However, after a brief talk to Isolde, Emily felt that she was utterly unworthy of Deborah’s love for her. Emily was mad, but after calming down, she felt something was off.
After thinking it over, she decided to look into Isolde’s background. After all, she was the person Deborah cared for until her dying breath, and Emily knew she couldn’t judge after just one meeting.
While waiting for the investigation results, Emily focused all her attention on the project. With Andrew’s approval, things moved faster and weren’t blocked anymore. However, once Lydia joined the team, problems started piling up.
