Chapter 175: So you miss me this much?
Chapter 175: So you miss me this much?
(Elena’s POV)
The sudden darkness made me afraid to move. I was wearing a formal gown and had no place to put my
phone. I only remembered that Hugo Ashworth seemed to be nearby.
“Hugo?” I called out into the blackness.
Hugo turned on his phone’s flashlight. “It should be a tripped circuit breaker. Stay here, I’ll go take a look.*
I felt around and sat down on the sofa, nodding. “Okay.”
As I waited in the living room, my eyes quickly adjusted to the darkness. Faint light from the yard filtered into
the room, and I vaguely sensed someone approaching.
“Hugo, is that you?” I asked, but received no response.
Just as I was about to get up, I was suddenly pulled into a tight embrace and kissed. My mind went blank as
I struggled in the man’s arms.
His possessiveness was familiar, sending shivers down my spine through our mate bond. The scent, the
touch, the way he held me – everything screamed Marcus Blackwood.
When I finally broke free from the kiss, I exclaimed breathlessly, “Marcus-”
The man paused, but didn’t answer. As I reached to remove his mask, he held me close, his breath near my
ear.
“Want to see me?” he said in a slightly hoarse voice.
Realizing it was indeed Marcus Blackwood, I pushed him away with all my strength. My heart hammered
against my ribs.
Just then, the voices of Hugo Ashworth and Adrian Whitmore could be heard outside.
“Is Elena inside?” Adrian asked.
“She is,” Hugo replied.
The living room lights flickered on, and Adrian entered, finding me standing awkwardly. I smoothed down my dress, trying to compose myself.
I turned around to find no one behind me. Marcus had vanished as quickly as he’d appeared.
Adrian, noticing my pale face and smeared lipstick, asked with concern, “Elena? Didn’t scare you, did I?”
I calmed myself and responded, “I wasn’t scared… um, why did the power go out?”
Hugo explained, “Someone tripped the breaker, but thankfully, nothing serious happened.”
I lowered my eyes, suspecting that Marcus was responsible. The timing was too convenient, too calculated.
Adrian, feeling apologetic, said, “Tonight was supposed to be a welcome dinner for you, but these unexpected events happened. I’m sorry to have disappointed you.”
- So you ass
I quickly reassured him, “Brother, don’t say that. I’m already very happy to be with family.
Adrian paused, then smiled with relief. I knew our father Samuel Whitmore would have been pleased to hear
those words.
The banquet ended at ten o’clock. After seeing off all the guests, Elena, Adrian, and Hugo went to the medical center to see Sandy Parker.
Sandy had been resting in her room after receiving the healing. Samuel Whitmore and a bodyguard were talking in the corridor and turned back to see the three of us arriving.
I was still wearing my gown, with Adrian’s coat draped over my shoulders.
“Why are you all here? Is the banquet over?” Samuel asked.
“It’s all over, Adrian replied, glancing at the hospital room. “How is she?”
Samuel said, “She’s fine, she can be discharged tomorrow.”
Then, remembering something, he added, “I’ve asked the bodyguard to investigate the snake incident.”
Adrian frowned, “No need to investigate. I know who did it.”
Samuel was stunned. “Who is it?”
I also turned to him, curious about his certainty.
Adrían pushed open the door to Sandy Parker’s room. Sandy seemed to have been awake for a while, startled by the door opening and avoiding eye contact.
“Who gave you the snake?” Adrian asked, directly confronting Sandy.
Samuel looked at her in disbelief. “Was it you?”
Sandy’s shoulders trembled, and she lowered her head, unable to meet his gaze. Her guilt was written across
her face.
“Since you don’t want to say, I’ll have to let the pack enforcement ask you.”
Hearing that Adrian was going to call the authorities, Sandy quickly said, “I didn’t know it was a silver viperling!*
