Chapter 365
Emily kept the visit from Isolde a secret. The next day, when her team noticed the band-aid on her neck, Emily just explained that she had accidentally cut herself while moving something.
Emily was a bit late to the office because she had been dealing with the news Isolde brought the night before.
As soon as she walked into the office, she saw Lydia in the middle of the team, while everyone crowded around her and showered her with envious praise.
One said, “Lydia, you’re incredible. You got noticed by Amy.”
Another echoed, “That’s Amy! So many big names in the industry can’t even get a chance to meet her, and she’s taking a special interest in you.”
Someone said, “I heard Amy wants to take you on as her last disciple. Is that true?”
Emily had seen scenes like this more times than she could count. She was a little surprised to hear Amy’s name come up, but she didn’t think much of it.
Emily went to her desk, turned on her computer, and got ready to work. She had no intention of joining their conversation.
But Lydia, who noticed Emily’s arrival, clearly had different ideas in mind.
Lydia pretended to remember something suddenly and called out, “Oh, right. Emily, if I remember correctly, Amy is the person you admire the most, right?”
Lydia stepped out of the crowd and walked over to Emily’s desk. She put on an air of magnanimity as she said, “I remember your biggest wish is for Amy to appreciate your work.
Even though Amy is busy, I suppose I could ask her to take a look at your work while she’s reviewing mine. Emily, do you need my help?”
If it were anyone else in the industry, they would probably be thrilled at the opportunity and would be falling over hemselves to thank Lydia.
However, Emily didn’t even look up. She replied flatly, “Amy wouldn’t give you the time of day.”
Emily knew exactly how Lydia’s painting skills really were.
Amy was the senior Emily respected most, and she knew that with Amy’s standards and integrity, she wouldn’t think highly of Lydia.
It was Lydia’s specialty to show off connections that barely existed to make herself look good.
Someone like Amy, with her status, was always surrounded by people like Lydia who loved to brag about knowing her, but very few would dare to make a scene in front of Amy herself.
Even if this charade blew up, Lydia had the Bennett family backing her up, so she felt pretty fearless.
When Emily spoke those words with such firmness, Lydia’s face froze on the spot.
It was like Emily had hit a nerve. Lydia snapped, “I was just trying to help you. It’s fine if you don’t want it, but why do you have to be so snarky about it? You just look a gift horse in the mouth.”
Lydia stomped her foot in frustration and, not giving Emily a chance to reply, stomped away.

But before she left, she glanced at Emily’s phone on the desk.
Emily didn’t miss that glance.
Lydia seemed obsessed with Emily’s phone. Emily had already let her have it once, but Lydia hadn’t done anything with it.
Emily wondered, ‘She still seems to be after it. What exactly is she trying to do?’
Emily spent the whole day trying to figure it out, but she couldn’t make sense of it.
Austin came out of the kitchen with the last dish and saw Emily staring at her phone and frowning in thought. He looked puzzled and asked, “Emily, what are you thinking about?”
Emily didn’t hide anything and told him the whole story.
She had always had people watching Lydia’s every move, so if Lydia plotted something against her, Emily would have known by now.
