“So it’s all because of me? You guys are blaming everything on me?” Lydia laughed, her voice thick with mockery.
Now that everything was out in the open, Lydia saw no reason to keep pretending. Her face twisted with malice. “I admit that my system can bewitch people, but it can’t control your hearts.
“If you guys truly trust Emily, would I have ever had a chance? Charles and Bob are the best proof. It was your lack of faith in Emily that gave me the opening I needed.”
Lydia’s words stripped away the Bennett family’s last pretense, leaving them exposed and humiliated.
Vincent looked the most grim of all. He shouted, “Shut up!”
He slapped Lydia hard across the face and added, “This is all your fault. If it weren’t for you, Emily and I would still be together, and I wouldn’t have… You destroyed us!” He glared at Lydia angrily.
Lydia had never been treated like this by Vincent before, and a wave of anger surged up inside her. But before she could let it out, Vincent’s next words cut her off. “I’ll make you pay for this myself!”
Lydia froze, watching Vincent, who had once doted on her, now looking at Emily with a cautious, almost ingratiating gaze. Vincent said, “Emily, I’ll make her pay for what she did to you myself.”
Lucas let out a cold snort. “It’s none of your business.”
Andrew nodded in agreement. “This is our family matter, Vincent. No need to trouble yourself.”
Gale and Emma looked at Emily, full of remorse. “Emily, we were all deceived. Don’t worry. We’ll do our best to make it up to you.”
Watching them all desperately please Emily, Lydia’s expression darkened completely. “You’re nothing but cardboard cutouts. You have no right to force me to pay the price.”
After plotting for so many years, Lydia was just about to have it all. But now, Emily ruined everything. Lydia was furious.
But aside from her anger, there wasn’t the slightest hint of panic in her. Under the furious glares of the Bennett family and Vincent, Lydia said triumphantly, “System, I give up on this world’s mission. Take me back now.”
The moment those words left Lydia’s mouth, everyone’s expression shifted instantly. Even Emily couldn’t help but sit up straighter. Her face turned grim. She had to avenge Charles and Bob.
Just as Emily stood up, Lydia’s cocky grin vanished in an instant. “What did you say? What do you mean I can’t leave if I haven’t completed the mission? Don’t leave. Answer me. Don’t go!”
Lydia’s voice cracked as she shouted. Only after she’d shouted did it hit her what was happening. Her face froze with panic, and she didn’t dare look at anyone around her.
She never expected that the system she’d always treated as her trump card would just abandon her like this. Panic-stricken and lost, Lydia’s first instinct was to bolt.
Vincent, who was closest, grabbed Lydia by the hair without hesitation and yanked her back hard. “You’re not going anywhere!”
Tears sprang to Lydia’s eyes from the pain as she could only watch the Bennett Family block her escape and glared at her with fury and hatred in their eyes.
