Chapter 417

He’d gone back and investigated everything again, and he knew just what Emily had suffered because of Lydia while she was with the Bennett residence. The guilt weighed heavily on him.

But he still couldn’t wrap his head around what she meant when she said, “Every day I had to fight just to get a bite to eat, and I was bullied nonstop. Even when I wanted to die, I had to push through.”

St. Gabriel Reform Academy might have strict rules and cut off contact with the outside world, but at the end of the day, it was just a tough school. Andrew thought, ‘How could it really have been as awful as she made it sound?’

Andrew was more perceptive than he let on. Even though he kept telling himself that Emily was probably just saying things off the cuff, he couldn’t help replaying those words in his mind.

In the end, he decided to come to Emily and get the truth straight from her. Maybe if he could get the whole story, he’d understand just how much anger she still had.

When Emily heard that was why he wanted to see her, she shot him a weird look. “Why are you so curious about that, Mr. Bennett?”

Andrew’s expression was sincere. “I just want to care about you.”

“Care about me?” Emily laughed, as if she’d just heard a joke.

“That’s funny. I’ve been out of St. Gabriel Reform Academy for over a year, and now you care?” she asked.

Andrew looked a bit awkward. “I’m sorry. This is all Lydia’s fault. If she hadn’t messed with us through the system, we would never have kept ignoring you or hurt you so badly.

“Emily, I swear this will never happen again. Just give us a chance to make it up to you, okay?”

He looked so earnest. There couldn’t be anyone more sincere than him. But just because his apology was sincere didn’t mean he’d be forgiven.

Emily didn’t even bother to look up. “If you’re so curious about what my life was like there, Mr. Bennett, why don’t you go ask Vincent? Just hope you don’t get too scared when you finally learn the whole truth.”

If it had been before, she never would have revealed a single thing about St. Gabriel Reform Academy, but at that moment, she couldn’t wait to expose all its ugliness to the world.

As for Andrew, she kind of wished he could spend a couple of years locked up at St. Gabriel Reform Academy himself.

Only after he’d gone through everything she had would he even be qualified to ask if she could ever forgive what they’d done.

Because of the constant harassment from the Bennett family lately, Austin had arranged for two bodyguards to stay close to Emily at all times. At Emily’s command, the two bodyguards escorted Andrew out.

Quite a few people in the company saw the whole thing, and Andrew felt his face flush with embarrassment. He couldn’t try to barge back in, so he stormed off.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that Emily telling him to go see Vincent had some hidden meaning, and that nagging feeling

made him uneasy.

So, after leaving Emily’s office, he headed straight for the place where Vincent was being held. But when he got there, he

learned that Vincent had lost his mind.

Chapter 417

With all the shocking secrets Lydia had been hiding and everything else that had been going on with the Bennett family lately, Andrew hadn’t had the time or energy to spare a single thought for Vincent.

It was the police who told him that after Vincent accidentally killed Lydia, he pretty much lost his mind. He just rambles on, talking crazy, saying things nobody can make sense of

Since the Bennett family wasn’t stepping up to defend Lydia, and the Shaw family had some connections, the whole thing could have been wrapped up with a simple conviction.

But Vincent just stood up in court and shouted that he’d killed her on purpose, demanding a harsh sentence. He even asked for the death penalty himself.
