Chapter 430
Lucas had never seen Andrew like this before. To him, Andrew had always been the mature and steady type. Even when everyone thought Lila was dead, he hadn’t lost his composure like this.
Snapping back to his senses, Lucas felt a wave of fury rise inside him. He lunged forward, grabbed Brady by the collar, and demanded angrily, “What did you do to Andrew?”
Brady stayed cool, easily prying Lucas’s hands off him. “Whatever we did to him, we were just following Emily’s orders.
“As long as you help us find her, make her pay for what she owes, and toss in a little extra as ransom, we’ll let him walk free,” he said.
His perfect act as a greedy bastard who’d do anything for money, so Lucas didn’t suspect a thing he said. Lucas shot him a furious, contemptuous glare. “What you’re doing is illegal.”
Brady just laughed, cool as ever. “If we didn’t have the guts for this, we wouldn’t have kidnapped Andrew and kept him locked up this long. Go ahead, call the cops. Let’s see who gets here first-the police, or Andrew’s last breath.”
Lucas was so furious that his face went ashen, his eyes fixed on Brady like he wanted to tear him apart. He thought, I’d already wronged Emily once, and now all I want is her forgiveness.
‘I don’t want to do anything to hurt her again. But I can’t just ignore Andrew’s situation, either. Emily has ordered Andrew to be kidnapped and locked up-her hatred for us must be so deep.
‘If I helped these guys, would she hate me even more? But even if she hated me, seeing Andrew like this, surely her anger should be vented.’ Lucas was torn, hesitating over and over, unable to decide what to do.
Brady didn’t push him. Before coming to Lucas, they’d already dug up everything they could about the Bennett Family. Even if they looked all guilty and regretful toward Emily now, that selfishness at their core was something they could never change.
Sure enough, after a long silence, Lucas agreed. Maybe to make himself feel better, he put on a fierce front and warned, “Once you get the money, let Andrew go.
“And don’t you dare use this against Emily again, or don’t blame me if I get rough.”
Brady just smiled. “Don’t worry, all we want is the money.”
Even though Lucas felt uneasy, he still chose to take Brady at his word. Getting Emily to meet up wasn’t easy-if it were, Lucas wouldn’t have spent the past six months always coming up empty.
But with St. Gabriel Reform Academy helping him out, he quickly found an excuse to arrange a meeting with Emily. His excuse was that he wanted to sell his shares to Emily-the only catch was that he had to see her face-to-face.
Even though Emily was now running the Harper Group, there were still plenty of people from the Bennett Family working there, always trying to trip her up behind her back.
If she could get her hands on more shares, she’d have more control over the company. But Emily didn’t care about Lucas wanting to meet her.
For the past six months, Lucas had been trying nonstop to meet up with her, hoping for a talk, but she shot him down every single time. So, it wasn’t surprising for her that he’d make this kind of request.
Lucas picked Lightning Valley for their meeting-the very spot where he’d once gotten into trouble and Emily had come to
his rescue.
