Chapter 433
‘She’ll forgive me, won’t she? Maybe she’ll come down the cliff to find me, just like she did back then. Maybe, just maybe, we could finally go back to the way things were-no more walls between us, just like the old days, he thought.
Clinging to that hope, Lucas blacked out as the world spun and pain tore through his body. When Lucas woke up, he was lying in a hospital bed.
The blinding white ceiling and the harsh stench of disinfectant made him uneasy. It took him a while to figure out where he
was.
His gaze fell on the attendant nearby. He asked, “Who saved me?” He didn’t even have time to worry about his injuries. Speaking carefully, almost as if afraid of the answer, he continued, “Was it a girl?”
The attendant, who hadn’t even noticed he was awake, looked a little stunned by his questions and took a moment to think before answering, “Yes, a girl brought you here.”
All the tension in Lucas’s body melted away in an instant. He felt he was struck by an overwhelming wave of joy. I knew it. Once Emily saw how sincere I was, she’d forgive me,’ Lucas thought.
Lucas didn’t care about the pain wracking his body or the weird feeling that something was off.
He shifted, propping himself up on his elbow, half sitting up, his eyes full of anticipation as he looked at the attendant. When she brought me here, was she nervous? Did she say anything?”
The attendant looked a bit lost. “Huh? Say what?”
Lucas grew eager. “Like, was she so worried about me that she grabbed my hand and told me to hang in? Did she say she hoped I’d be okay, or maybe that she forgave me or something like that?”
The attendant looked even more confused. “Well.”
Lucas frowned, annoyed. “Just tell me what she said.”
Though the attendant felt puzzled, he replied, “She just gave a quick rundown of your injuries, then said she needed to go back and meet up with her team to continue searching down the cliff.”
Lucas was suddenly stunned. ‘Team? Search and rescue?’ he thought. Suddenly, a bad premonition hit him, and his face went pale. “Wait, are you saying that girl was part of the search and rescue team?”
The attendant nodded, looking completely baffled. ‘Who else could she be? Did this guy bang his head when he fell off the cliff?’ the attendant wondered.
Lucas still wasn’t ready to give up. “So, besides the rescue team, was there anyone else who brought me here?”
The attendant shook his head. Lucas’s face turned ashen. ‘No way. How would Emily… he thought. “No, that’s impossible. You just didn’t notice her,” Lucas tried to reassure himself. “I’ll go ask around. Someone must have seen Emily.”
He couldn’t care less about anything else right now. He yanked the IV needle out of his hand, flung the blanket aside, and struggled to sit up.
But as he instinctively tried to walk forward, his legs wouldn’t cooperate. He lost control and toppled to the floor, so fast that even the attendant couldn’t react in time.
The medicine bottles and everything else on the table went flying, clattering to the floor-some of them even landing right on top of him. But Lucas didn’t even care about that. He turned back in a daze, staring blankly at his legs.

Chapter 433
Why… Why is this happening? Why can’t I feel my legs?’ he thought, panic surging through his veins.
The attendant rushed over to help, but Lucas seized his arm in a death grip, squeezing so hard that it was as if he wanted to snap the bone. “Tell me, what happened to my legs?”
The attendant looked at him with a bit of pity in his eyes. “When the car went off the cliff, it got all twisted and crushed your legs. The rescue team got there fast, but your legs were shattered.
“I’m afraid… You might never be able to stand up again.” ‘Such a young guy, probably not even married yet, and now both his legs are broken and one of his arms is disabled, the attendant thought, feeling sorry for him.
The attendant’s words hit Lucas like a sledgehammer, and his face went ghostly pale in an instant. ‘My legs. Are they disabled?’ Lucas thought.
