Chapter 184: He Had Fallen For Her Long Ago
(Sophia Rivers’s POV)
My phone rang suddenly, the shrill sound cutting through the silence of my apartment. I glanced at the unknown number with irritation.
“Hello?” I answered curtly.
“Is this Sophia Rivers?” The voice belonged to a she–wolf I didn’t recognize. Her tone was confident, almost smug.
“Who’s asking?” I demanded, my patience already wearing thin.
“Someone who knows that Marcus Blackwood has a severe disease,” she said casually.
I scoffed loudly. “What kind of ridiculous rumor is that? Marcus is perfectly healthy.
“Is he?” The she–wolf’s voice carried a hint of amusement. “Then why hasn’t he been seen in public lately? Why is the Blackwood family claiming he’s abroad for treatment?”
My grip tightened on the phone. “You’re talking nonsense.”
“Am I? I also know about the car accident that Sandy Parker planned. The one you masterminded.”
My blood ran cold. The phone nearly slipped from my trembling fingers.
“Who are you?” I whispered, my voice barely audible.
“I’m not your enemy,” she replied smoothly. “I’m offering you a partnership.”
I forced myself to breathe steadily. “What kind of partnership?”
“The accident led to Marcus’s disappearance from public view after being rescued. The Blackwood family is claiming he’s abroad for treatment, but Elena is staying in the Northern Territory.”
She paused, letting the information sink in. “My people in the Northern Territory brought back some news. I can reveal this secret to you. Investigate if you don’t believe it.”
My mind raced. If Marcus was truly ill, it would explain his recent absence from pack events.
“What do you want?” I asked warily.
“A collaboration,” she said simply. “I can help you get revenge on Marcus for abandoning you and on Elena for stealing your mate. But I also need your help.”
I bristled at her presumptuous tone./”You’re the one seeking my assistance, not the other way around.”
The she–wolf chuckled softly. “Speaking of assistance, how is Felix Xavier these days?”
My heart stopped. The name hit me like a physical blow, and my eyes filled with terror.
Felix Xavier. The name I’d buried so deep I’d almost convinced myself it never existed.
“I can see I have your attention now,” she continued, her voice dripping with satisfaction.
I stood frozen, overwhelmed by memories I’d fought to suppress. Felix Xavier represented everything I’d tried

to escape from my past.
“You wouldn’t want Marcus to find out about that particular chapter of your history, would you?” she pressed.
My hands shook as panic flooded through me. If Marcus discovered the truth about Oliver’s paternity and the years of deception, I might not survive his wrath.
“How can I trust a stranger?” I managed to ask, my voice cracking. “I don’t even know who you are.
“My surname is Green,” she revealed. “If you want to know more, I can provide an address for a meeting
tomorrow afternoon.”
The line went dead before I could respond.
I stood there for a long time, feeling threatened and fearful for the first time in years. Marcus already hated me so much. Once the identity of Oliver’s biological father was revealed, and he discovered I had deceived him for so many years, I probably wouldn’t survive.
So no matter who this she–wolf was, I had to meet her.
(Elena Blackwood’s POV)
I was sleeping lightly in the guest room provided for family members when I felt someone getting into bed with me. The door of the medical exclusive guest room didn’t have a lock function, so my sleep was always
shallow.
I knew it was him immediately. His familiar scent filled my senses as I started to sit up.
Marcus wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me into his arms. “Where are you going? It’s late.”
I struggled against his hold. “Get off the bed.”
He endured what must have been considerable pain and said softly, “I just want to hold you and sleep. I won’t
do anything.”
I remained tense in his arms, every muscle coiled with resistance.
Marcus chuckled weakly. “I’m a half–dead patient and I still value my life.”
“You wanted to die,” I retorted sarcastically.
Marcus paused before speaking again. “I wanted to enjoy being with her before I died.”
I stiffened, confused by his words. Being with her? Was he seriously ill and becoming delirious?
Before I could come back to my senses, Marcus moved half an inch closer to me. He buried his head in my
shoulder and neck.
“Elena, I used to think I didn’t love you, but I actually fell in love with you a long time ago.”
