Chapter 10

Caiden’s POV

I revved the engine of my sports car as I pulled into the driveway, the tires screeching against the asphalt. The engine’s roar rattled the quiet evening air, sending a few lovely Omega girls scattering from the entrance of the house, their startled expressions a mix of surprise and mild irritation. I chuckled, enjoying the chaos I’d caused, then winked at them as I hopped out of the car. Their greetings were polite, but I could tell some were trying to hide their annoyance at being interrupted. I didn’t care-today was a day to remember.

I found my mate after so many damn years of searching. I didn’t know how to control the storm of emotions swirling inside me.

I didn’t bother with the formalities as I entered the living room. The scent of home hit me like a wave-familiar and comforting. I walked straight up to my mother, who was sitting on the couch, chatting with Nina, my bratty sister. Without a word, I wrapped my arms around my mom from behind, burying my face in her hair. She stiffened for a second before letting out a soft laugh.

“O.M.G, you seem so excited today. I’m sure it’s because you’ve got a package in your room to smash,” Nina teased, winking at me. Her words hung in the air like a taunt, and I immediately understood what she meant. I chose to ignore her, though-today was not the day for her usual provocations.

“What package are you guys talking about?” my mother asked, oblivious to my sister’s insinuation.

Nina didn’t hesitate. “A package a new alpha needs to soothe his nerves after a long day.”

“Spare me the nonsense,” my mother said, giving me a pointed look. “It’s not like him to do anything huge at his company other than flirt with some human employees.”

I rolled my eyes. “Mother, that’s disrespectful to say of your alpha,” I remarked, grabbing a grape from the fruit bowl on the table and examining it as I spoke. Without another thought, I popped it into my mouth, savoring the burst of sweetness.

But as the grape rolled across my tongue, my thoughts shifted. My mind flashed back to the elevator and that moment when I had seen her-my mate. Those cherry lips. I could still taste the way the air seemed to shimmer around her, how her scent had overwhelmed me in the best possible way.

I didn’t even realize it, but I was smiling, my thoughts drifting back to that brief moment in the elevator. My wolf, Kai, had screamed inside my head, urging me to act. “Mate,” he’d called out, a raw desperation in his tone. I had been dumbstruck by her-so close, yet so far away. She had no idea of our connection, and that stung like nothing else.

I couldn’t understand it. Why hadn’t she felt it too? Why hadn’t she been overwhelmed the way I was?

I shook my head as I smiled carelessly at my mother. The thought of her made my chest tighten. I had raced straight to Aeson’s office after that encounter, desperate to find her. She must’ve been startled by my reaction. But no matter what, I was determined. I would find her again. I’d keep searching until she was in my arms. I couldn’t let her go.

I popped another grape into my mouth, trying to suppress the thoughts about her, but then my mother’s voice broke through my reverie.

“You really are infamous, aren’t you? All this talk about packages and women. It’s only going to damage your image as the new alpha.”

I waved her off, chewing slowly before responding, “Don’t worry, Mom. I’ll be better.”

“Better?” Nina’s voice was vaguely mocking. “Better means you need to stop sexing everything that’s in skirts, bro.”

I shot Nina a look, annoyed but amused at the same time. My mother eyed her sharply but didn’t respond.

“I can give that up now,” I said, barely holding back a grin.

Nina scoffed, laughing at me. “Lies. I bet you won’t ever settle down. Even when he find his mate, mother.”

The words stung, but I kept my cool. I wanted to share the good news-how I had finally found her, my mate, but something inside me held back. Maybe I wasn’t ready to admit it out loud just yet.

1/2

I opened my mouth to dispute Nina’s words, to correct her, but then my mother cut in before I could speak.

“You need to think of the pack now, Caiden. Do what’s right. Make your late father proud.”

I shrugged nonchalantly. “I killed my evil uncle who wanted to take over, and now I’m alpha. Isn’t that enough to make him proud?”
