Chapter 12
Caiden’s POV
I had found my mate. The one who was meant for me. The one who could never be replaced.
But Sara wasn’t it.
And somehow, it all felt like I was standing on the edge of a cliff, teetering between the life I knew and the life I was about to begin.
Sara’s lips trembled as she approached me again, her hands shaking slightly as she reached out to touch my chest. I could see the desperation in her eyes, the disbelief that I was serious about ending things.
“You don’t mean that, Caiden,” she whispered, her voice soft but frantic. “You can’t mean it. How can you suddenly not want me when you were all over me just yesterday?”
I stiffened as she reminded me of the night before-how I had taken her without restraint, consumed by lust. My body betrayed me as a faint heat stirred in my core at the memory. But Kai growled in my mind, his voice sharp and resolute.
“You’ll be hurting and betraying our mate by giving in to this temporary pleasure. You can’t do this, Caiden.”
1 clenched my fists, grounding myself. “I’ve lost interest, Sara,” I said coldly, ignoring the ache in my chest and the fire she was trying to stoke in my body.
Her eyes widened in disbelief, her fingers clutching my arm tightly. “Lost interest?” she repeated, her voice rising. “You were fucking me so badly yesterday, and now you’re saying this? What happened, Caiden? What changed?”
I exhaled sharply, pulling my arm from her grip. “I don’t owe you an explanation. It’s over.”
Sara shook her head vehemently, her ginger curls bouncing as she stepped closer, her voice trembling. “No, you can’t end it like this. It’s barely been a month! Caiden, please, I’ll do anything. Just don’t throw me away.”
I looked at her, my jaw tightening. I knew women like her too well-desperate to stay in my bed, clinging to the fantasy of becoming my Luna. They didn’t care about me; they cared about the title, the power, the status, and above all, my dick and the good sex.
“You’ll do anything, huh?” I asked, my tone icy as I leaned closer to her face. “That’s the problem, Sara. You’re too eager. Too desperate. I don’t want that.”
Her face crumbled at my words, but I didn’t waver. She reached for me again, her voice breaking. “Please, Caiden. Don’t do this. I’m not just some woman in your bed. I-”
I cut her off, my voice sharp. “That’s exactly what you are. And that’s all you bitches will ever be.”
Her lips quivered, and for a moment, I thought she might cry. But then, she straightened up, her desperation shifting to anger. “You’re lying to yourself. You still want me–I can see it, feel it.”
Sara pressed her body against mine, her hands roaming over my chest and sliding down toward my waist. My body responded despite my resistance, heat pooling low in my stomach. I cursed under my breath, feeling the internal battle rage within me.
“Caiden, you don’t have to fight this,” she purred, her voice dripping with temptation. “I know you want me. Just let go.”
Kai’s growl echoed louder in my head. “She’s not your mate. Stop this now.”
With a surge of willpower, I grabbed her wrists, halting her movements. “Enough, Sara,” I said firmly.
Her eyes filled with frustration as she struggled against my grip. “You can’t just throw me away like this. I’m not leaving.”
Before I could respond, a sharp knock echoed through the room, followed by the sound of my Beta’s voice. “Alpha, are you in there?” Harry called out.

1 released Sara’s wrists and took a step back, my tone cold and authoritative. “Get dressed, Sara. Now.”
She stared at me, defiance flickering in her gaze. “Or what?”
I smirked darkly, crossing my arms. “Or I’ll have my Beta drag you out of here in your nakedness.”
Her mouth fell open. Shock rendering her silent. I turned toward the door, ignoring the heat of her glare on my back.
“Five minutes, Sara,” I said over my shoulder. “Don’t test me.”
I stepped away, watching Sara hurry to get dressed. The moment I moved toward the door to summon Harry, she knew I wasn’t joking. She threw on her dress hastily, her movements erratic. Before stepping out, she glared at me with a mix of anger and humiliation. I didn’t flinch.
