I felt better now. My body wasn’t burning anymore. No more shaking or feeling like I was on fire. I was just tired, sore, and…
calm. Killian laid beside me, gently stroking my arm. His other hand reached

“Liana,” he said quietly, voice low. “Can I ask you something?”
“Hmm?”
He looked down at me, brushing my hair from my face. “Did you

My finger paused. “Know what?”
He exhaled slowly, another kiss on my forehead. “The truth about me. Did you know? and
I pulled back a little to look at him. “Killian, what are you talking about?”
He looked… nervous. Like he didn’t want to say the words.
“What…? Come on, tell me.” I said, pinching his nipple, and he let out a groan.
just never said anything?”
“If you continue this, I promise this conversation will end here until we’ve gone another round.
I chuckled. “But really? What is this truth you have to tell me? I’m curious.”

“I’m not fully human,” he spilled and looked at me as if trying to see my reaction, but I gave away nothing.
He continued.
“I never was. I just didn’t know how to tell you. I was scared of what you’d think of me.”
My heart thudded. “Okay… what do you mean?”
He held my hand now His grip was gentle, but firm enough to keep me grounded. “Do you know what happened to you today? Why your body felt like that?”
I shook my head. “I don’t know. It was so weird. But mom… she kept saying something about me being in heat? I’m still trying to figure out what that means.”
Killian sat up a bit, resting his back against the headboard. I followed his lead and sat with him.
He looked at me seriously. “Liana, in this life… it’s not just humans that exist. There are supernatural beings. Creatures people only whisper about.”
I blinked at him, almost laughing. “Okay, like vampires? So those are real?” I raised a brow. “Am I one? ‘Cause… I saw my teeth. They were… different. Sharp.”
He didn’t smile. Not even a bit.
“I’m not a vampire,” he said softly. “Though yes, they exist. But I’m something else. I’m a werewolf.”
I stared at him, stunned. “Huh?”
“I’m a werewolf, Liana and not just any werewolf. I’m an Alpha. I lead a pack.”
I squinted at him. “You’re a what now? A leader? Of werewolves?”

He nodded, no hesitation.
I let out a soft laugh, then covered my mouth. “Are you joking? This is insane.”
“I wish I was. But I’m not.”
I stared at him. The man beside me, the man I had fallen for, hated, feared, and longed for, was telling me he wasn’t even fully human?
“And… me?” I whispered.
He sighed and reached for my hand again. “You’re my mate. My fated mate. That’s why I avoided you for years. That’s why I stayed away all through your teens. Until you were nineteen.”
My heart dropped.
He looked at me now with guilt in his eyes. “I tried to fight it, Liana. I really did. But when I came back that year… I was in rut.
”
“What’s rut?” I asked.
He rubbed the back of his neck. “It’s… a biological phase male werewolves go through. It’s intense. It comes with a strong
urge to mate. It’s like our bodies go into overdrive. Every instinct is focused on our mate. We feel this constant pressure, this
need to touch, to take, to claim. It’s painful to resist, especially when our mate is near.”
I blinked slowly. My mouth went dry. “So… your body was calling for me? Like… sexually?”
He nodded, not even flinching. “Yes. Exactly that. I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t think. I was fighting
couldn’t take it anymore. I was trying to handle it myself, and that’s when you walked in.”
My eyes widened. “So that’s why you were jerking off that night?”

He nodded. “Yes. I was trying to relieve the pressure, trying to stay away from you. But my body, my instincts, wanted you. That’s why you saw me that way.”
I looked away, swallowing hard.
He lifted my chin gently. “And that mark on your neck… it’s not a tattoo. That’s my mark. I claimed you, even before I understood what it would do to you. That’s why people treat you differently. You carry the Alpha’s mark. It’s a sign of power. A sign you’re mine. No one else in this city has that. Only you.”
My head spun.
“But… what about your wife?” I asked softly.
He shook his head. “We never marked each other. We’re married only by paper, not by bond. We haven’t even consummated it. She’s not my mate, You are.”
I didn’t even know what to say to that. I nodded slowly, my brain still catching up. My hand found his chest again, and I absentmindedly pinched his nipple. He didn’t even flinch. Just stared at me, like he was waiting.
Then he spoke again. “So… you didn’t know?”
“Know what?”
“That I was a werewolf. That you were my mate.”
I shook my head and chuckled, but it was a weak laugh. “No, I didn’t know, and is it… contagious? I mean, I was normal. Then suddenly I’m hot all over, burning, my teeth look weird, my eyes were red… I looked like a monster, Killian.”
He reached for me again, pulling me closer. “You’re not a monster. and no, it’s not contagious. Werewolves don’t turn their mates the way vampires do. We don’t bite and infect. It doesn’t work that way.”
