“Cut it out! So what if she’s the top scorer? It’s not that impressive. There’s a top scorer every year, right? How many of them actually go anywhere? Most of them just disappear and are never heard from again,” Rita sneered. Her tone couldn’t have been more disdainful.
She continued, “My parents also said that someone like Kaia, who disrespects her elders, bullies her own sister, and lies all the time, won’t get far. No matter how good her grades are, once she’s out in the real world, she’ll just end up making enemies. She won’t amount to much and will probably end up with a ruined reputation.”
Penny’s chest was heaving with anger. “Who do your parents think they are? Are they fortune- tellers or something? Can they see into the future?”
“I’m not wasting my breath on you.” Rita gave Penny a look of pure contempt before turning to Kai again. “Hey! I’m warning you. Hand over that dress to me nicely.
“Even if you don’t want to give it to me, you’ll have to. In case you don’t know, my family is a business partner of K&B, and that gives us the privilege to buy Kaye Bella’s clothing before anyone else.”
With that, Rita pulled a VIP card out of her bag and waved it in front of the store manager. “You recognize this card, right? Tell them, do I have priority purchase?” she demanded.
The manager nodded quickly. “Yes, that’s the corporate VIP membership card. It does give you priority. Miss, please wait a moment. I’ll pack it up for you right away.”
The manager approached Kaia and held out her hand. “Miss, I’m sorry, but please return the dress to me. There are plenty of other styles in the store that are also very nice. I can personally recommend some for you. How about it?”
‘Some store manager you are–you don’t even have the sense to read people. Seriously, she’s just a Country bumpkin. You don’t need to be so polite to her. You’re here to make sales, not waste your time and energy on people who clearly can’t afford anything. If I were your boss, I’d have fired you already, Rita snapped.
She was annoyed that the manager was treating Kaia so nicely and couldn’t wait to see Kaia thrown
out of the store.
“Uh..” The manager looked awkward.
Just then, a cool voice spoke from beside her. “She’s doing exactly the right thing. When Kaye Bella was founded, the very first rule was to provide excellent service and never judge people by their appearance. That’s something every employee has to know from day one.”
The manager’s eyes widened as she looked at Kaia, thinking. ‘How does she know that?”

“Ugh, this is so infuriating! Kaia, let’s just go!” Penny huffed, clearly frustrated. She honestly didn’t mind sticking around, but Rita just wouldn’t stop picking on Kaia, calling her a country bumpkin and saying all those nasty things.
“No need to rush. Let’s buy the dress first before we go.” Kaia said, patting Penny’s hand with a gentle, reassuring smile.
Penny opened her mouth slightly, looking surprised.
Kaia turned to the manager and said, “She might be a business partner, but I know people too. Just give me a second. I’ll make a call.”
“You know someone?” Rita burst out laughing. “Kaia, you expect us to believe you have connections? Don’t tell me you know someone from the head office or something. You really do love to brag, just like the rumors say!”
Ignoring Rita’s mockery, Kaia took out her phone and called Conrad.
“Ms. Bennett, you only ever call when you need something. Go on, what is it this time?” The man on the other end teased.
Conrad was already used to Kaia’s hands–off approach–she never bothered with company matters. Sometimes, he even wondered if she trusted him too much, not even worried he might just take the company for himself.
“I’m at the Kaye Bella store on Britera Pedestrian Walk…” Kaia recounted everything to Conrad.
“Alright, just wait a moment. I’ll contact the manager of that store,” Conrad said.
Rita looked at Kaia with a mocking grin. “So, did you actually get anyone important? I don’t have all day to waste on you. I’ll give you one more minute, and if you still-”
Before Rita could finish, the manager’s phone rang. It was a call from the regional manager.
“Wait a moment, Mr. Dorsey will call you himself,” the regional manager said.
The manager’s jaw dropped in shock. She was just a manager of a branch store. Normally, the highest she’d deal with was the regional manager.
For a moment, she felt both honored and a little panicked that the boss was calling her.
Her heart was pounding in her chest when Conrad’s call finally came through.
“Is there a woman called Kaia Bennett in the store?” Conrad asked.
The manager glanced over at Kaia, recalling that Rita had just mentioned her name. ‘President Hua is calling me himself… is it really because of her?‘ she wondered.
“Yes, she’s here, the manager replied.

“Let’s cut to the chase. She can take anything she wants from the store, no charge. And don’t worry. you’ll still get your commission,” Conrad said.
The manager was stunned by what Conrad said. After hanging up, she turned stiffly to Kaia. “M- Miss Bennett, I’ll pack up this dress for you right away.”
No one could believe what just happened.
Both Rita and Penny were dumbfounded.
“Alright, go ahead.” Kaia handed the dress to the manager and said to Penny, “Let’s keep browsing.”
It took Penny a moment to find her voice. “K–Kaia, what’s going on?”
Kaia smiled. “Didn’t I tell you? I know people.”
Penny’s eyes widened in disbelief. She wondered, ‘Who exactly does she know? Someone with more influence than the Parsons family, who are business partners?‘
Seeing the manager actually packing the dress, Rita was furious. “Hey! Who told you to pack that for her? My family is a partner! I want that dress. You can only sell it to me!”
The manager said with a polite smile, “I’m sorry, miss, but this dress can’t be sold to you.”
Though Penny still didn’t fully understand what was going on, seeing Rita get put in her place like that was incredibly satisfying.
“Hey, Rita, quit yelling like some fishwife. The store is not selling you the dress. What, you think you can just force them to hand it over?” Penny shot back.
She deliberately raised her voice so everyone could hear, giving Rita a taste of her own medicine— after all, Rita had shouted insults at Kaia earlier just to embarrass her in front of the whole store.
Rita was so mad she could practically cough up blood. At that moment, the manager finished packing the dress and handed it over to Kaia.
“Miss Bennett, here’s your dress,” the manager said.
Rita stared at the bag, feeling like the manager was flaunting it right in front of her. Acting on impulse, she suddenly snatched the dress away.
“Miss, please don’t do that, the manager said.
As the manager tried to take the dress back, Rita completely lost it and slapped her hard across the
face.
“Pathetic nobody! How dare a lowly shop assistant like you talk back to me? Who do you think you
are?” Rita snarled.

The manager clutched her face, eyes brimming with tears, looking completely flustered. The slapped cheek hurt and felt like it was burning.
“Unbelievable! You actually dared to lay a hand on my staff!” Kaia’s eyes blazed with fury.
Without hesitation, she lunged forward and slapped Rita so hard that the latter spun around and fell straight onto the floor.
