Andrea thought, “The Sharp family’s plan wasn’t total crap at first. It only turned into garbage after Kaia tried to show off and added her own ideas.’
She hoped this would drive a wedge between Kaia and the Sharp family.
“Not bad at all. This proposal is actually quite impressive,” Conrad said with a satisfied smile.
Hearing that, Louis was stunned. Andrea also froze. Not just them. Even Penny, along with everyone else present, stared at Conrad in surprise.
Conrad went on, “Those additions at the end? Absolute game–changer. Genius move. I’m seriously impressed!”
Kaia smirked awkwardly, thinking, ‘Wow, he’s really laying it on thick.‘
Penny gaped, slowly turning her head toward Kaia. Donald also turned his gaze toward her.
“Impossible,” Louis muttered in disbelief.
Andrea kept telling herself, ‘No way. This can’t be happening. Kaia can’t pull this off. Sure, she used to play dumb and ace her exams. But school is one thing, work is another. We’re both only twenty!‘ She didn’t buy that Kaia was some kind of genius.
But Conrad had just praised her in front of everyone.
Andrea thought, ‘Seriously, what is going on here?’
Conrad handed the proposal to the assistant beside him. “What do you
think?”
Sweat was practically pouring down the assistant’s forehead. This proposal had been revised by his big boss himself. If he dared say “not good,” his job would be gone for sure.
“Good! Absolutely perfect! Mr. Dorsey, you’re right. These additions at the end are things I could never have thought of, even if I racked my brains. Simply brilliant!” the assistant exclaimed with exaggerated awe.
Kaia was stunned.
Conrad shot the assistant a glare. ‘Enough already. I told you to put on an act, not to out–flatter me!
Catching Conrad’s look, the assistant realized he’d gone too far. Clearing his throat twice, he retreated to the background.
Conrad stepped up to Donald. “Mr. Sharp, I look forward to working together.”

Louis’s jaw dropped and stayed open. The other company representatives could only sigh and shake their heads. If they’d known, they would have swallowed their pride and given Conrad their proposals earlier.
Now it was too late. The Sharp family had beaten them to it.
Louis refused to accept it and stepped forward.
He asked, “Mr. Dorsey, I’m not convinced. May I take a look at the Sharp family’s proposal?”
“You’re not…” Conrad started, but then abruptly changed his tone and handed him the document. “Go ahead.”
Louis took it and began scanning it closely.
He found that the Sharp family’s proposal was about on par with his own, until he reached the parts Kaia had modified. Then his eyes lit up. It really was something special.
He thought, ‘Did I really misjudge her? Is Kaia actually that talented when it comes to business?‘
As the meeting wound down, Louis saw Kaia getting ready to leave and quickly called out to her.
He said, “Kaia, I admit I underestimated you before. You’re far more capable than anyone realized.”
Andrea’s heart sank.
Louis added, “Kaia, here’s the thing. Since you’ve been kicked out of the Bennett family, you’ve got nowhere to live and no source of income. There’s just over a month until Morganburg University starts, and tuition is expensive. How about you work for me as my secretary? I’ll pay you two thousand dollars a month.”
Kaia looked at Louis like he was an idiot.
“That look. Is it because you think it’s too little? Kaia, you haven’t even entered the workforce yet. Money isn’t that easy to make. Even graduates from Morganburg University don’t all land good jobs. And you have zero work experience. My offer is a lot,” Louis went on.
“Get lost,” Kaia said flatly.
Louis said, “Alright, then. I’ll give you four thousand dollars. Double the offer. That’s generous, but you’d have to put in the effort. You’ll need to assist with revising project proposals alongside your regular secretary duties. If you need a place to live, I can rent you an apartment and even sponsor your tuition at Morganburg University.”
He added, “But remember this. I’m investing so much in you. So when you graduate, you can only work for my company. I’ll draft a contract. If you leave for another job, you’ll owe me ten times…

He thought, ‘If that really happens, I’ll be in a real bind, torn between my fiancée and such an outstanding girl.
“Are you some kind of fly? Why are you so disgusting? Can’t you stop buzzing around me? I swear I want to smash your face. Who gave you the courage? Do you even know your own worth? A tiny, worthless company… You want me to be your secretary? Dream on!” Kaia spat out in one breath.
If this weren’t her own K&B company, she’d have already punched him.
Someone in the crowd couldn’t help but snicker.
Louis’s face turned red with rage, steam practically coming out of his ears.
Being scolded by Conrad earlier was one thing. After all, Conrad’s status commanded deference. But now, he couldn’t stand being cursed out by Kaia.
Kaia, you’re really pushing it!” he barked, reaching to grab her by the collar.
How dare you!” Conrad stepped forward and clamped down on Louis’s hand.
