“Zina, you should eat, too,” Ethan said, doing his best to maintain a polite smile, though his fingers tightened unconsciously around his fork.
Zina smiled as she picked up some food with her fork. “Thanks for your concern,” she said. Her smile vanished almost instantly; this was the only courtesy she was willing to show Ethan.
Ethan understood her meaning and felt a surge of gratitude toward Zina.
Just then, a delicate hand reached out as she said, “Ethan, try the pasta. They’re my favorite.”
“Do you like pasta with tomato sauce, too?” Ethan’s eyes suddenly sparkled, his gaze enveloping Lydia with warmth.
Lydia blushed, looking adorably shy. “Of course. I really like it,” she replied.
The two of them were having such a good time together that by the end, Ethan couldn’t take his eyes off Lydia. very family warning he’d ever heard was already out the window.
With a sudden bang, everyone snapped back to their senses.
From the direction of the noise, Yvonne unhurriedly wiped her hands with a napkin. “I’m done eating. You all carry on. I’m not feeling well, so I’ll head upstairs,” she said.
With that, Yvonne left, leaving the three people at the table exchanging awkward glances.
Zina set down her fork and quietly left the table. But after just a few steps, she spotted Yvonne standing by the stairs.

“Mrs. Lamber?” Zina called out, hurrying over. Before she could say anything else, a pair of warm, gentle hands pulled her into an embrace.

“I’d originally planned to find you a good match. But now–whether or not you can see what’s between them -I don’t want either of you to end up hurt.” Traces of sorrow threaded through Yvonne’s voice.
Zina gently pulled herself free, then stood in front of Yvonne and spoke softly, “Mrs. Lambert, there’s really no rush with any of this.
“Honestly, I’m not great with strangers suddenly getting close, but this situation is already much better than I expected.”
“What I said before was just something I blurted out. You really don’t have to take it to heart,” she added, lowering her head.

“I actually have a small company in the fashion business. If you want, you can try your hand at it and get some experience,” Yvonne offered.
As she spoke, Yvonne sent over the company’s basic info to Zina.
Zina glanced at the info on her phone, and her mouth couldn’t help but twitch.
‘Seriously? She calls a Fortune 500 company a small business?‘ Zina thought. ‘Is my worldview getting turned upside down again?‘
“I handpicked everyone in that company, so they’re all at your disposal,” Yvonne continued, giving Zina a rundown of everything.
In the end, Yvonne looked at Zina, and her heart was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion. ‘This is my daughter, growing up right in front of me,’ she thought.
Zina wasn’t even sure how she made it back to her room. Everything around her just felt surreal. That surreal feeling lingered for three days.
As Zina sat in the car on her way to the jewelry exhibition, she cocked her head and glanced at Kellan beside her, then suddenly spoke up. “Mr. Carter, have you ever considered expanding into fashion?”

As soon as Zina sat down, someone who seemed oddly familiar strolled over, flashing her a friendly, knowing smile. “Miss, care to join me for a drink?” he asked.
The man held a wine glass in one hand, and on his wrist was a ruby watch engraved with tiny, lifelike animal scenes. As he raised his glass in a toast, the watch glinted under the lights, adding to his charm.
Zina looked up, meeting the man’s captivating, charming gaze. He really wore his scheming right on his sleeve.
