Before the old lady could react, Shayla pushed her impatiently. “That’s enough. Scram now! You’re just trying to leech off the
popularity of my livestream.”
Shayla smooth over her slightly messy hair and told the cameras, “We’ve made things clear. This old lady bought her lottery ticket in an unknown shop in the suburbs. It’s clear that she was scammed by someone else.”
Hearing that, the classmates and lecturers weren’t as delighted as Shayla. On the contrary, they felt a little regretful.
“Those lottery shops in the suburbs are probably scams.”
“Yes, I told you, there’s no way the lottery can be wrong.”
“This lady got scammed. That’s quite sad.”
“She probably didn’t mean to do it.”
The lady stared at her phone blankly. Some classmates went over to console her.
I stood outside the crowd, watching the entire debacle coldly.
As the old lady refused to leave, Shayla snorted, “That’s enough, ma’am. Not everyone is lucky enough to win 50 million dollars. Look at you, a mere country bumpkin. Do you even deserve the money? Only someone as lucky as I am gets to enjoy this wealth.”
Her lips curled up in disdain.
The other classmates began whispering among themselves.
“Did Shayla forget she’s also from the suburbs? She looked like a country bumpkin when we first saw her.”
“Yeah. During the four years in university, she always wore the same clothes. Her family was dead poor, and she couldn’t even afford meals sometimes.”
“Exactly! If Bella hadn’t offered her help, she would’ve starved to death a long time ago. Her luck? That won’t last long. It’s only a matter of time before she falls.”
Despite hearing those words, Shayla didn’t bat an eye. She knew they were just jealous of her.
An idea came to her, and she directed the cameras at the old lady.
She said, “Everyone, take a good look. I won 50 million dollars in the lottery, but someone’s trying to scam me. She’s not innocent at all. I believe she did this on purpose! Remember her face, and help me curse her when you see her on the streets!” Hearing that, the old lady pointed at Shayla and yelled, “Nonsense, I’m not lying! I did win the lottery The lottery shop owner told me that there’s only one winner in the whole country, and I won it. You’re the one who got scammed!”
Shayla merely snorted “Look, she’s panicking after getting exposed. How do you know yours is real? The lottery ticket I have right now can prove that I’m the real winner.”
Yet, what the lady said next shocked everyone into silence. “My evidence? The 50 million dollars have already been deposited into my bank account!”
