Chapter 9
Shayla lunged toward Aaron while shouting, “You scoundrel! You were lying when you said you love me. The only thing you ever loved was money. As for the debts I owe, you’re just as deep in it as I am. Aaron, there’s no running away.“.
Hearing that, Aaron gave her another slap.
Suddenly, Shayla seemed to remember something. She dropped to her knees in front of me, clutching at my pant leg as she pleaded, “Bella, I’m your best friend. We’ve been classmates since middle school until now. You can’t leave me to die!
“I owe a few million dollars, so why don’t you sell your two old apartments and help me pay off my debts? Don’t worry, I’ll write you an IOU. Once I find a job, I’ll slowly pay you back.”
That was utterly ridiculous. I couldn’t believe Shayla was actually expecting me to pay off her debts. Did she think I was dumb enough to allow her to leech off me for the rest of my life?
Squatting down, I held her chin and whispered into her ear, “In my previous life, you two scoundrels leeched off me, and you’re doing it again in this life. Shayla, do you really think I’m that fucking stupid?”
Shayla’s eyes widened, her expression filled with horror. “You… you are…”
“Yes, that’s right. I was reborn, just like you,” I whispered.
Shayla shook her head hard. “No, that’s impossible. If you were reborn, why didn’t you buy this lottery ticket?”
Something occurred to her. She grabbed my hand and asked, “No, wait. In the previous life, you bought this lottery ticket and won 50 million dollars. It was the same shop and the same numbers. What happened?”
I patted her cheek and sheered, “Shayla, who told you I gained financial freedom because of that lottery ticket?”
As she stared at me dumbly, I continued, “Remember the strange bead you saw at my house previously? It was an antique passed down through generations of my family and is worth a few hundreds of millions.”
Hearing that, Shayla collapsed to the ground.
In my previous life, I did buy that lottery ticket and only discovered it was a fake when I tried to cash it. Yet, I only bought it for fun and didn’t take it to heart.
Later, that antique bead in my family was sold, and I really did achieve financial freedom. However, my parents told me not to go around bragging about it, in case it stirred up envy. That was why I told others I won the lottery.
As I was about to leave, Shayla knelt on the ground and hit her head on the ground repeatedly.
She yelled, “Bella, I’m sorry. Please, save me! Sell the antique bead and use the money to pay off my debts, and I promise I’ll serve you humbly. I’ll die if I can’t pay off my debts. Please!”
I gave her a kick that sent her sprawling. “Shayla, don’t you get it? You wanted me dead in my previous life, so in this one, I want you to pay with your life.”
