Chapter 5
In the silver light, Adrian broke free from Seraphina’s grasp and stumbled toward the man who had just appeared.
“Daddy! Daddy!”
The little boy threw himself into the man’s arms, clinging tightly to his neck. The man scooped him up with one hand, gently stroking his back with the other. “It’s okay, Daddy’s here.”
Then, he looked at me, his eyes full of heartache and guilt.
“Elena, I’m late.”
I felt the hands restraining me suddenly release their grip. The guards backed away in terror, reeling from the Alpha King’s
absolute dominance.
I stood up and walked toward my mate.
“Damien.”
He pulled me into his arms, completely ignoring my disheveled state. His embrace was warm and safe, instantly melting away all my anger and hurt.
“My Luna,” he whispered in my ear, then lifted his head and surveyed the room.
The lobby was deathly silent. Every werewolf remained in a posture of utmost respect, none daring to look up at him.
Except for Liam. His eyes were wide, his face ashen, as if he’d seen the end of the world.
“Elena… you… you’re…” His voice trembled. “You’re the Alpha King’s Luna? You’re a werewolf?”
I didn’t answer him, just leaned into Damien’s embrace, savoring the long–lost sense of security.
Damien looked at Liam coldly. “He’s your ex?”
It was a question, but his tone was laced with menace. Everyone present could feel his killing intent.
“Damien,” I gently touched his chest. “Not in front of the child.”
His expression softened immediately, but his gaze remained icy as he looked at Liam. “You’re lucky.”
Liam finally snapped out of his shock, his emotions spiraling. “No! This is impossible! Elena, you can’t do this to me!”
He staggered forward. “When we broke up five years ago, you were just a human! How could you… how could you become the Alpha King’s Luna?”
His words made everyone in the room gasp. To question the Alpha King’s Luna was suicide.
Damien’s eyes became dangerous. “Are you questioning my mate?”
An immense wave of dominance crashed down on Liam, forcing him to his knees. But he was still defiant.
“Elena, I admit I was wrong back then. But my alliance with Seraphina was just to consolidate my power! I always planned to come back for you once I was strong enough!”
“I never truly loved her! I’ve always loved you!”
Hearing this ridiculous excuse, I couldn’t help but laugh. “So, I should have waited for you to come back and claim me after you were done playing politics?”
“Even if you’re the Alpha King’s Luna, I don’t care! I can wait for you to break the bond, and then we can start over!”
His words sent Damien into a rage. The Alpha King’s dominance slammed into Liam like a tidal wave. “You want my mate to break her bond?”
Liam collapsed under the pressure, but his eyes were still stubbornly fixed on me. “Elena, you can’t forget what we had! You truly loved me for those two years!”
I looked at the man on the floor, the man who had once held my heart, and felt only pity. “You’re right, Liam. I did truly love you.”
A flicker of hope sparked in his eyes.
“But,” my voice became calm and firm, “the Elena who loved you died five years ago.”
“She died on the night you threw me out of your life.”
His face went completely white.
I turned my back on him and looked at Damien. “Let’s go. Adrian needs to sleep.”
Damien nodded, but before turning to leave, he looked at Liam. “Remember, she is my mate, my Luna, the mother of my cub.”
“If you ever dare to think of her again, I will wipe your pack from this world.”
With that, he bit the back of my neck in front of everyone–the most intimate, possessive claim a wolf could make.
I closed my eyes, basking in the security of it.
