After Jessica fell asleep, I lay beside her, thoroughly exhausted from ravishing her. I needed to sleep. I needed to calm my damn mind from everything but I just couldn’t. How can I fucking do that when I’m going to ruin
her?
Fuck it.
The alphas wanted to make sure there’s no way out for us here.
They wanted me to mark her as soon as possible. Tonight. It’s a good damn thing I was able to tell them to give me a week to think. Make peace with all of this. I am sure about marking her. Been sure since long ago. But Jessica is a trouble I cannot untangle. She’s a trouble I always seek too.
She’s been through a lot already and when I’m going to mark her, I want her to be sure of it. I don’t want her half–hearted or doubting whatever we have and we can have in the future.
I’m all aware of everything now.
Jess has some ambitions.
Those ambitions cost lives and it costs me my whole pack.
I’m far beyond that.
All I want is her. All I want is this.
Jessica moved and I wondered if she knew how much I love watching her sleep. She can snore all she wants but I’ll always be down on my knees for her.
Jessica may have cost me my whole pack but she’s my whole life now.
And if she declines getting marked by me? I don’t know what will happen to me by then.
I’ll probably join some cult or follow her everywhere just so I can have her again.
Sometimes, when I look at her I’m reminded of how much moon blessed I am. And how much trouble she caused us to be in these circumstances.
Of course, I’m not stupid.
I’m not blinded by my love for her.
No matter how much I stay silent when other alphas criticize me for being with her after everything, I know they have a point.
She’s strong yet she’s stupid.

It’s funny because that’s been my conclusion.

I didn’t want to think about anything else so I got up and decided to just blow off some steam outside.
I pulled on a fresh shirt, the fabric stretching across my shoulders as I stepped outside. The night air bit into my skin, sharp and cold, but I welcomed it. Anything to clear my head. Kade was already there, leaning against the oak tree at the edge of the clearing, his arms crossed, his posture relaxed but dangerous. You could always tell when Kade was thinking–his jaw tightened, his eyes went distant, like he was staring straight through you.
Although we fought, both of us know our best interest is maintaining the peace in this pack.
“You look like hell,” Kade said, his voice low.
“Feel like it,” I muttered, running a hand through my hair. I leaned against the tree beside him, the bark rough against my back. “Alphas are breathing down my neck. They want her marked. Now.”
Kade let out a low growl, his eyes flashing in the moonlight. “They’re always in a fucking hurry. Like they’ve never had to wait for anything in their lives.”
“Say you,” I shot back, making him chuckle.
There’s a lot of things that I don’t agree with Kade but none of them is about his strength to lead this pack. He can easily overthrow me if he wants. Sometimes, I think he’s stronger than me but like me, he’s also a fool for someone to let this world consume him.
“At least you’re getting some,” he muttered, his gaze sliding to the campfire where a few of the pack were gathered.
I snorted. “Not the point, Kade. You’re too busy playing the lone wolf to see what’s right in front of you.”
He stopped pacing, his shoulders tense, and turned to face me. The moonlight caught the sharp angles of his face, making him look even more dangerous. “And what’s that, huh?”
“That this pack needs a leader who’s not constantly looking for a fight,” I said, my voice low but firm. “You think I don’t see it? The way you’re always on the edge, ready to snap?”
His eyes narrowed, that alpha fire burning brighter. For a second, I thought he’d lunge. Instead, he took a step back, his expression unreadable. “Just don’t forget who’s got your back.”
“I don’t,” I shot back, my tone cutting.
The silence between us was heavy, broken only by the distant howl of a wolf. Kade’s gaze drifted to the trees, his fingers flexing at his sides like he was ready to shift.
The howl echoed again, closer this time, a low, guttural sound that set my teeth on edge. Kade’s head snapped toward the trees, his nostrils flaring as he inhaled the scent carried on the wind. “Rogues,” he muttered.
I let out a snarl, body tensing and ready to snap some neck. Right. Just some steam I need to blow off but before I can even shift, Kade stops me, shaking his head.

“You let them see you now, and they’ll know exactly what we’re hiding inside this village. We need to play this
smart.”
Damn it.
He’s fucking right.
No one knows Jessica and I am here. If they did, then we’d be dead.
“They’re on our territory, Kade. I’m not just gonna stand here and let them sniff around.”
His grip tightened, his eyes locking onto mine with a ferocity that made even me hesitate. “You think I don’t want to tear them apart? But we’re not just fighting rogues anymore. This is bigger than us. Jessica’s life is on the line. You shift, you lose her. Are you ready to risk that?”
I glared at him, my jaw clenching so hard it hurt. He was right, damn him. I sucked in a sharp breath, forcing my wolf back down. The howl came again, closer still, and I could almost taste their stench on the wind. “Fine,” I spat. “But if they step one paw inside this village, I’m going full wolf, and you’re not stopping me.”
Kade gave me a slow nod, his hand dropping from my shoulder. “Deal. But until then, I’m the alpha. Go and get your girl, Grayson. It’s time to hide.”
