Where am I?

My eyes adjusted slowly, and I had to squint because the golden rays of the sun were spilling across the room.
Shit.
I quickly pulled the blanket over my very naked body and stared around. It’s a good thing this place is familiar–otherwise I’d be screaming right now.
What happened to me?
I looked down at myself again and realized–I wasn’t dreaming.
My stomach dropped. I shoved my legs out of the sheets and wrapped the blanket tight around me, knotting it at my chest with shaking hands.
Grayson.
I stumbled toward the door, bare feet slapping against the floorboards, heart hammering in my throat.
“Grayson!”
I shoved through the doorway into the living room.
And froze.
Every Alpha in the room turned to me at once.
Their conversation cut off mid–word, jaws falling slack, eyes widening like I was a ghost crawling out of the grave. Heat scorched my cheeks, but I couldn’t move. The blanket slipped lower on my shoulders, baring more skin than I wanted, and still I couldn’t make myself pull it up.
“Sorry!” I blurted, spinning on my heel. My voice cracked. God, that was damn stupid.
I bolted.
My bare feet slapped against the hallway floor as I half–ran, half–tripped, clutching the blanket tight to keep it from slipping. My heart thundered so loud it drowned out everything else–until I heard it.
“Jess!” Grayson’s voice, sharp, furious, too close.
I didn’t look back. Couldn’t. Shame and panic burned hotter than the sunlight spilling through the windows. My wolf stirred weakly, whining inside me, but I shoved her down, focusing only on putting space between me and those stares.
Heavy footsteps pounded after me.

“Jess, stop!”
I ran faster until I was inside the room. Knocks came a second later.
Shit. Shit.
““Go away!”

The pounding kept coming, faster, louder, like he’d tear the door off its hinges if I didn’t answer. “Baby, it’s me. Open up. Please.”
That’s not going to work on me. But certainly, it’s going to work on my wolf. What’s happening to her? It felt like…she’s so eager to answer for Grayson. I bit myself to stop her from clawing out again until the door opened and Grayson finally slipped himself inside.
The look of the alpha in fury is etched in his very skin. “What the hell?”
Rolling my eyes, I lose the damn blanket and walk straight to the cabinet to look for fresh clothes. I’m not embarrassed about being naked in front of him.
Not after everything.
If he wants to stand there fuming, let him.
“What’s going on?”
He stalked closer, sitting on the side of the bed as he waited for me to dress his shirt.
I wasn’t even done when he pulled me on his lap, nuzzling his head on my neck. “You’re back..”
“I am. Did you miss me?”
That was supposed to make me laugh but staring at his soulful gaze as he lifts his eyes and claims my lips, I suddenly wonder what happened to me.
“I do.”
My wolf whines, pushing against me, desperate to close the distance, to sink into him. I push at his chest, sharp, but he doesn’t budge. His arms only tighten, locking me against him like I’m something he’ll never let go of again.
Heat burns through me–rage, desire, confusion tangled so thick I can barely breathe.
“What happened to me?”
Grayson’s hand comes up, fingers rough but steady as he tilts my chin, forcing my eyes to meet his.
My breath stutters, betraying me. His thumb brushes the corner of my mouth like he has every right to touch me, like I belong to him.
“You’re mine,” he murmurs, forehead pressing against mine. “That’s what happened.”

I glare, but my breath hitches when he leans closer, lips ghosting over my cheek before trailing down to my jaw. “Did I do something stupid?”
“Define stupid.”
“Stop dodging. Tell me what I did.”
Grayson leans back just enough to meet my eyes, his hand still tilting my chin like he refuses to let me look anywhere but at him. “You mean, besides driving me half–insane with worry? Or the part where you made every single Alpha in that room choke on their tongues?”
Heat floods my cheeks. My nails bite into his shoulder. “That wasn’t—”
“Stupid?” he interrupts smoothly, smirking now. “Baby, if you’re asking me, walking in naked and then running from me definitely qualifies.”
My wolf whines, rolling belly–up, happy to be teased. I grit my teeth, hating how easily he unravels me. “Did I lose control yesterday?”
“You didn’t know?” Grayson’s smirk sharpens, dangerous, amused all at once. “You mean… when you ran, when you shifted?”
I grit my teeth, claws pressing into his chest. “Yes. That. What the hell happened to me?”
His lips trace my jaw, slow, teasing, dangerous. “Your wolf is so hard to tame, baby. Maybe I should start fucking some sense into it too.”
“Are… you serious?!”
“Dead serious,” he murmurs, dark and low. “Why are you running anyway?”
I stiffen, heat crawling up my neck. I don’t want to tell him all of it–not about losing control, not about letting my wolf take over–but my body hums with the memory anyway.
“I… I wasn’t running,” I snap, claws flexing, heart hammering. My wolf whines, pressing against my ribs, desperate to answer for him, to leap, to bite, to scream.
Grayson tilts his head, eyes dark, smirk curling like he knows exactly what I’m hiding. “Moved fast, huh? Sounds an awful lot like running from me.”
I gape, cheeks burning, and my hands tighten into fists at his chest. “I wasn’t!“.
“Uh–huh,” he murmurs, brushing a thumb along my jaw, lips ghosting against my neck, dangerous and teasing. “Your wolf looks pretty thrilled you were.”
I bet she is. She’s shameless, greedy, wild–everything I try to keep buried in human skin. And right now, she’s laughing at me from the inside, loving every second of this. Damn her. Damn him. Damn both of them. for making me feel like I’m barely holding myself together.
My legs waver as I get up from Grayson’s lap, and my hands itch to shove him away and pull myself together at the same time.

“How are you, anyway? Are you hurt somewhere?” His eyes travel down my body and he whistles low, slow, teasing.
I smirk, twisting my hips just enough to make his breath hitch. “Hurt? Maybe. But not where you’re looking.” I step closer, pressing my knee between his legs, feeling the heat of him even through the fabric. His hands fly to my waist, gripping hard, but I don’t stop. “You’re the one who looks like he’s about to fall apart, Grayson.”
His jaw tightens, eyes darkening as they lock on mine. “Careful, Jess,” he growls, voice low and dangerous. “The alphas are outside but I can very much bend you in this bed and claim you.”
I smirk, pressing my knee between his thighs.” Really? Ah–Oh my goddess! Please, Grayson..”
His eyes darken, his hands gripping my waist like he’s fighting to keep control. I press closer, my chest against his, and feel his heartbeat quicken. “What’s wrong?” I whisper, my fingers tracing the line of his collarbone. “Can’t handle a little teasing?” I pull back just as he leans in, his lips almost grazing mine. I laugh, a soft, knowing sound, and sashay away, leaving him breathless and frustrated.
