Chapter 193
JESSICA

The days that follow are a blur for me. Grayson keeps asking, never stopping, never letting me breathe. What I’m thinking. What I’m hiding. What I want. And most of all–what the Triad wants. His words chase me everywhere, sinking into me even when he’s not in the room. I try to shut him out, but Grayson isn’t the kind of man you can silence.
The truth is, I don’t have the answers he’s looking for.Because how could I tell him what the Triad said? That Grayson’s end goal isn’t love, or loyalty.
It’s to breed me.
To turn me into nothing more than a means to an end.
I want to believe they’re wrong. I want to believe he’s different. But the more I hold it inside, the heavier it becomes.
Theo and Riot want the same thing, so how sure am I that Grayson is any different?
My wolf doesn’t hesitate–He’s our mate!-she snaps, fierce and unshaken. I roll my eyes at her certainty, unwilling to be pulled into the same trap.
“Shut up and let’s try to shift again, please.”
She doesn’t like being dismissed, not when she thinks she’s right. But I can’t let her stubborn faith in Grayson drown out the chaos the Triad has already planted inside me.
Shifting is the only thing I can control right now,and I’ve been practicing.
We’ve done it four times already! she snaps, her voice sharp and impatient. Plus, I want Grayson!
Of course she does. She always wants him–wants the bond, the heat, the surrender.
“He’s out,” I mutter, more to myself than to her. “Probably whoring around, as usual.”
Liar. I can smell him.
I freeze, because she’s right.
“Whoring around?”
I whirl around, and there he is. Grayson. His face is shadowed, streaked with dirt and blood, a fresh cut dragging down his cheek, another along his jaw.
“Hello, Jess.”
“You look like hell,” I say. “Guess the whorehouse doesn’t pamper you the way you
like.”

I grab his wrist with both hands, fingers digging for purchase. He squeezes harder but I was already hopping behind him, legs winding around his thighs.
Grayson thrashes, wild and furious, but I hold fast. His growl shakes the air; my pulse pounds.
“Why?”
He swings, knocking me sideways. “Stop fighting me!”
Before I can react, his hands wrap around my wrists, slamming them above my head.
“I am not cheating with her! Why the fuck did you think that?”
“Liar!” I snapped, chest heaving, eyes blazing.“I saw you with her!”
“You saw what exactly, Jessica?”
“Let go of me!”
I watched him retreat, just enough to release me. Both of us were panting, chests heaving.
“Have you forgotten you are my mate?” Grayson asked, helping me get out of the water. “I literally buried my whole pack for you, Jess. Do you have any idea what that means?”
“I did this for you, and you’re still fighting me? Still doubting me?”
I stomped, sending a splash of cold water toward him. “I’m not doubting you! I’m fighting you because you’re controlling me, you lied to me and now I saw you sharing a damn breakfast with that woman!”
“Jessica.”
I could have stopped there. I could have waited, listened, and asked for an explanation. But I didn’t.
I slapped him across the face before spinning on my heel and running back inside the house.
The moment I reached the doorway, I froze.
Visitors.
Grayson’s dark eyes locked on mine, and for the first time since the fight, neither of us moved.
“Bad timing?”
Triad.
I could not make out the words; my blood roared in my ears. Grayson held my hand and pushed me into our bedroom, water dripping from our wet bodies.
“Clean yourself. I’ll handle it.”

He was cold and didn’t give me any chance to reply before locking the door.
Why are they here?

I don’t know how I managed to clean myself in a minute, but the moment I slipped on a fresh shirt, I found myself disobeying Grayson once again.
He growled the instant he saw me step outside our room. In one swift motion, he shoved the man in his way aside, pressing me behind his back.
“This is your problem, Westwood. So damn overprotective.”
“Get out.”
All this time, Grayson knew about the Triad lurking around me. He manages to keep me on the blind spot what?
“No. I want to talk to him.”
“Jessica!”

His angry stare did not stop me. I could hear him growling behind as I sat on the couch and watch the guest do the same.
The tattoo crawling on his neck told me everything.
Grayson joined me, and I realized will I be pushing his limits if I don’t want him here?
“Alone, please.”
“Don’t do this to me.” Grayson almost pleaded. Do what exactly? I thought, narrowing my eyes.
He’d let me act, let me push, but the truth? He controlled everything I didn’t know.
“Get out.”
Grayson froze, eyes blazing with anger. Then, with fists clenched and jaw tight, he stormed out of the house. Once we were alone, I turned to face the guest, who had the widest, most irritating grin plastered across his face.
“Damn. What a tamed alpha. Hmmm?” he teased, eyes glinting.
“What do you want?”
“You.”
A lull of silence fell between us. My eyes flicked back toward him, only to see him chuckling to himself.
“The Triad wants to make you an offer.”
“After kidnapping me and orchestrating a coup?” There was no answer. “Whatever your offer is, I don’t want it.

He glanced up, fascination in his gaze. “He can’t protect you. The Triad can. Leave this pack Jessica. Leave Grayson Westwood. Come with me.”
“Protect me from what?” I laughed. “You’re delusional if you think I’d ever leave Grayson.”
. “Delusional? Perhaps. But I’ve seen how this pack–or rather, how he–fails. I can give you what he cannot.”
I narrowed my eyes, every instinct screaming at me to strike, to fight. “I don’t need protection from anyone but myself… and Grayson. Stay in your lane.”
I would do everything in my power to protect Grayson Westwood. He’s my mate and my alpha.
Mine.
The guest loomed over me, tsking to himself. “Hes‘ cheating, isn’t he?”
“You’ve heard.”
“He lied about the markings,” he said, voice low, almost a whisper, as if savoring my reaction. “Seems your precious Grayson isn’t as truthful as you think. Makes you wonder what else he’s hiding, doesn’t it?”
“He may lie, but he’s still mine. You… are nothing.”
This moment felt like a repeat of my fight with Grayson. Except now I’m defending him.
“Did he ever tell you the price of the protection this pack has offered so you could be here?”
I knew there was a price and I hadn’t asked him about it.
“Such a delicate omega.” I forced myself to not be affected by the way this guest is treating me. His hands touch my stomach and I growl. ” It’s here, Jess. A hybrid pup that will rise in power… stronger than anything you’ve ever seen. You’re a breeding fool, Jessica. And Grayson is using you.”
