Chapter 206
Chapter 206
JESSICA
“Jess!”
“Jess! Wake up!”
“Damn it! Do something!”
I open my eyes, gasping. Cid is on the floor, breathing hard, staring at me.
“Fuuuuck… you scared me.”
“What… what happened?”
Cid and his sister exchange a glance.
“You don’t remember?”
I shake my head. “No… I just… I don’t remember anything.”

Cid climbs onto the bed, running a hand through his hair. “As soon as you lay down… you just… screamed. Kept screaming. I… I didn’t know what to do.”
I sit up, gripping the sheets, heart racing. “I… I don’t remember screaming.”
Cid swallows, looking lost. “Are you sure? I mean… it was bad, Jess. Really bad. I don’t… I don’t get it.”
“What did I say?” I whisper.
“Nothing. Not words. Just sounds. Like you were fighting something I couldn’t see.”
My stomach turns. “That doesn’t make sense. I wasn’t dreaming.”
His sister steps closer, voice unsteady. “It looked like more than a dream. It looked like you were gone.”
“Gone?” My voice cracks. “What the hell does that even mean?”
“You tell me.”
“Gone where?” I ask. “Did I pass out?”
Cid nods slowly. “You did that’s why I’m panicking.”
There’s nothing to tell. I scour every inch of my mind but there’s nothing.
I press my palms to my eyes, trying to push back the panic rising in my chest. “Then… then maybe it’s best we go. I can’t… I can’t stay here.”

His sister steps forward, hesitating. “Should we… tell Kirill?”

Cid shakes his head immediately. “No. Not now. He doesn’t need to know… not yet. Let’s just get her out of here.”
I nod, still trembling, and swing my legs off the bed.
After we left, Cid became strangely quiet. He kept glancing at me, jaw tight, fingers twitching.
“Are you okay?” I asked, breaking the quiet.
He didn’t answer right away. Just kept staring straight ahead, jaw tight. Finally, he muttered, “I don’t know… I just… I’ve never seen anything like that.”
“Like what?” I pressed, my stomach twisting.
His gaze flicked to me again, then away. “You… screaming like that. Not knowing why. It’s… it’s not normal.”
I shivered. “Neither of us knows what happened.”
I… I shouldn’t have brought you there,” he muttered finally, voice low and rough. “It’s my fault… if Alpha Kirill finds out–he’ll kill me.”
I frowned. “Wait… what do you mean? What are you talking about?”
Cid ran a hand through his hair, pacing a few steps before stopping abruptly. “I-” He shook his head, almost in disbelief. “Fuck. You don’t really remember anything, Jess?
“No,” I said. “No, seriously… why did you even bring me there in the first place?”
“I don’t know why, Jess. I just… I can’t figure you out. There’s something about you… something off. Special. Weird. And I… I have doubts.”
I blinked at him, raising an eyebrow. “Doubts? About me?”
“Yes!” He snapped, throwing his hands up, exasperated. “About everything. About why Kirill is so obsessed with you.”
I raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at my lips. “Are you… jealous, Cid?”
He froze, then scowled, kicking at a stray pebble. “Jealous?”
The wind slapped our faces. Cid’s hand yanked my wrist so hard I nearly stumbled. He dragged me close, voice low and razor–thin.
“You think I’m jealous?” he spat, teeth bared. “Jealous of him staring at you like you’re his prize? Don’t be stupid.”
He shoved me against the brick, breath hot, fingers tight on my arm.
“You get him wrapped around your finger,” he went on, each word hard. “You make him bend. You make

everyone bow. And I… I can watch it and pretend it doesn’t burn me up inside.”
“Then stop watching,” I hissed, trying to pull free.
His grip tightened. “If it were that easy, I would’ve done it already.”
“Cid, it hurts.”

“We respect Kirill. He’s smart. He’s our leader. He makes the calls, he keeps us alive… and you–every time you come around, every little thing you do matters to him.”
He needs to calm down. I shove him away, massaging my freaking arms. What the hell is he talking about?
I have a mate.
Kirill kidnapped me to join this Triad and I hate him as much as he hates me. He just had his wolves attack me and almost feed me to Cid.
There’s a list of things why I hate him and it’s still on–going. So what the fuck?
If I were special to Kirill maybe because I’m a hybrid and he needs me for whatever vicious plan he has for the Triad.
“Is this why you’re trying to be kind to me?” I ask him in a low voice. I don’t want to get hurt and I’ve only been here for a few days now. “You’re trying to eliminate me out of Kirill’s sight.”
“It’s not like that,” he says.
“Yeah?”
“Don’t paint me into something I am not,” Cid said, taking a few steps away from me. Both of our breathing are hard enough.
Heavy, even.
“Then tell me what you are,” I push.
His mouth opens, closes. He looks away.
“Thought so,” I mutter.
It’s hard to think of anything knowing that I thought atleast, he’s trying to make my life here so much better.
The Triad can fuck themselves but I’m out of here.
“Kirill is looking for you.”
I study his stupidly annoyed face. “How do you know that?”
“Mind links.”

“Mind links?”

My brain is dull, but I’m thinking of those special connection mates formed during the bond. Grayson was able to read my mind before. I just don’t understand why Cid is connected to Kirill.
“We pledge ourselves to him,” Cid replied, trying to explain it and I feel dumb. “Once we complete our trial, we establish mind links to signal the location of each member of this pack.”
Huh.
“But that’s impossible.
Curiosity kills the cat. And so is a wolf.
“I don’t understand.” The sudden tension between us is long gone. I’m more interested in this new ability rather than his anger. “You’re telling me you can talk through your minds?”
My head pounds.
“Let’s go. You have a visitor.”
